Blood Rush (Blood Breed #2) (19 page)

The noise in the room escalated. Money was being thrown onstage from all areas, and Kayla had to dodge some of the flying bills.

“That was a nice
Flashdance
scene.” Kayla murmured it more to herself but heard Adrik chuckle deeply next to her.

The lights came back on, still dim, but bright enough that she could see the woman clearly. She walked to the front of the stage. Water covered every inch of her so that her areolas were dark beneath the white material. She smiled broadly and shook her chest. Her breasts swung from side to side, the overly large globes moving wildly. The woman exited the stage, and Kayla watched in shock. Her ass swayed, and then she stopped, looked over her shoulder, and blew kisses at the crowed.

“What the hell was all that?”

Adrik chuckled again, and she looked over at him. He dropped his arm over the back of her chair. Kayla felt his fingers skim along her bare shoulder and shivered. He used his other hand to move her hair off her shoulder.

“That was Davinna. She is a Succubus and always puts on a show like that when a party is involved.”

“Succubus?” Every day Kayla was finding out new species that made up the Otherworld. It blew her mind to the point she felt as if this might all be a dream.

“They are considered the promiscuous females of the Otherworld. Davinna may be experienced”—he smiled at his choice of words—“but she is loyal and treats everyone with kindness.”

Kayla watched him, wondering if Davinna had ever shown him some of her “kindness.”

“I know what you’re thinking.”

She raised a brow, not liking how jealousy had raised its ugly head inside of her. “Do you?”

He smirked and leaned down to kiss her lightly on the lips. “I only have eyes for you.”

That didn’t mean he hadn’t done things with Davinna before they met. Although she shouldn’t care what he did before they were together, she couldn’t help but wonder about it. The fact that he hadn’t answered was confirmation enough that he and Davinna had been more than just friendly. She pushed her jealousy to the back of her mind and focused on them now. That was all that mattered anyway.

Chapter 27

As the hours passed, Kayla enjoyed herself more than she thought she would. She had hoped Lana would have made an appearance, but according to Adrik, Aleksei hadn’t shown up either because she had been feeling ill. Kayla made a mental note to check on Lana tomorrow and see how she was. It was probably morning sickness, but still, Lana not feeling good worried her.

Kayla had talked to Aniya and Milo briefly, but she had noticed how preoccupied Milo was with the female selection in the club. As if on cue, he had said his pleasantries and then gone toward a flock of women. Aniya had pointed out all the different creatures that filled the club, and Kayla was astounded to learn how many different beings stood around her.

“Over there, right next to the bar, are the Siren hussies.” Aniya leaned in close and in a hushed tone said, “Keep your man away from them if you know what’s good for you.” She pointed out several more tables that were placed sporadically in the large room. “Over there are the Draqos, shape-shifting dragons, and over there are the Incubus and Succubus.” She turned Kayla’s way and grimaced. “Again, keep your man away from the Succubus, and it wouldn’t hurt if you steered clear of the Incubus. They can be pretty persuasive at times.”

One by one, Aniya ticked off creatures that Kayla had always believed were myths. She noticed there weren’t any Lyken members at the party, but it didn’t surprise her, not after she had met them and realized how they felt about the Blood Breed.

Fey, warlocks, demons, and other mythical creatures walked, danced, and got drunk right in front of her. Kind of surreal, and a little weird, for her to take in, but the more Aniya described everything and everyone, the more Kayla became fascinated by it all.

“Last but not least, you have the Rages. All I’m going to say is steer clear of them. They get angry and violent at the drop of a hat.” Aniya waved to someone on the other side of the club. “Listen, we’ll talk more later. Have fun, and don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.” Just like that, she was gone, lost in the sea of bodies.

Kayla didn’t need Aniya to elaborate on the Rages. After the cryptic warning Adrik had given her, she knew she wouldn’t be going anywhere near them.

Kayla shook her head and looked around. Adrik was no more than a foot away from her with a wide smile on his face. “Get that grin off your face and buy your girlfriend a drink.”

He chuckled and escorted her to the table. He leaned down and kissed her on the head before weaving his way through the crowd and toward the bar.

An hour later and Kayla could admit she was pleasantly buzzed. She sipped on her almost-empty alcoholic beverage as she surveyed the dance floor. Adrik was at the bar and clearly in an amusing conversation, if the broad smile were anything to go by. Although she normally didn’t drink, she wanted to let loose a little. Cool fingers stroked up her bare arm, and she let out a startled gasp. She spun around in her seat, her eyes widening as she saw the very, very large man standing in front of her. He wasn’t just any man, no, not with his coal black hair or eerie ice-blue eyes. He was one of the men she had seen earlier, a Rage.

Adrik was still at the bar and talking to the bartender. Kayla was on her own. She faced the man again. He wore a half smile on his face as he scanned her body.

“Mind if I join you, beautiful.” It wasn’t a question.

“Actually, my boyfriend will be back with our drinks.”

“Hmm, you mean the one talking to the bartender?” He tilted his head to where Adrik stood, but didn’t take his eyes from her.

His manner was pleasant and nonthreatening, but something inside of her screamed that he was deadly. She didn’t deny or agree with what he said and thought it best to keep a calm demeanor and act pleasant. Adrik’s words about the Rages being dangerous played over and over in her mind, but her instincts told her she needed to show no fear. She had a feeling this man, the Rages, fed off fear.

“So, what is a pretty little thing like you doing with a bloodsucker anyway?” He leaned back in the seat.

Kayla didn’t miss how his gaze dipped to her breasts or how his smile widened. She straightened. “What can I say? He’s great.” She swallowed roughly.

“What’s your name, precious?”

“What’s yours?” She was eluding, but he didn’t seem to care. That, or he didn’t notice.

He straightened and leaned forward, his smiling broadening. “I can be anyone you want me to be.”

Kayla looked over his shoulder and noticed Adrik looking at her. She could tell, even from the distance, that his whole body had gone stiff. She took a deep breath, and before she could blow it out, Adrik was right beside her. The Rage sitting in his seat suddenly became stiff. He looked at her and smiled, straight white teeth flashing menacingly as he slowly stood and turned around to face Adrik.

They stared at each other for what seemed like forever, and she worried one of them would throw a punch. The tension was thick in the air, but no one really seemed to notice the two massive men about to kill each other. Suddenly the air became thinner, lighter, and the stranger held his hands up and slowly walked away. Adrik’s gaze stayed on him until he disappeared within the throng of people.

Adrik sat down and slid her drink over to her. He didn’t speak for several long moments and then grabbed his drink and downed it.

“I meant it when I said I want you to stay away from them.” His voice was hard and demanding, and she couldn’t help the anger that surfaced within her.

“He came over here. I certainly did not go seek out his company.” Her voice had risen, but with the club being so noisy, it hardly made the impact she was going for.

He closed his eyes briefly, and emotions passed across his features. “I’m sorry. It’s just, well, with you, things are different.” He opened his eyes and offered her a small smile. “Want to get out of here?”

She nodded. Things had started to get all shitty anyway, and she really didn’t need anyone fighting over her tonight.

Kayla held Adrik’s hand as they walked through the deserted park. The moon was high in the sky and cast its silvery glow across the pond. It looked like tiny crystals dancing on the water. Even though it should have felt dangerous walking at night, she knew that with Adrik by her side, she would always be safe.

When everything had happened with Lana, everyone had gone into a kind of panic. The community of Stone Brooke hadn’t known what was really going on, and neither had Kayla. It was frightening to know what really lay below the streets of the small, almost picturesque town.

She continued along the stone path until Adrik started to lead them away from the park and into the woods. The moon was full and bright in the sky and lit their path as they weaved their way through the bushes and trees. The smell of wildlife and evergreen filled her senses, and she inhaled deeply. She felt Adrik tighten his hold on her hand. She looked up at him. The perfect masculine lines of his face casted shadows.

“It’s so beautiful out here.” She took everything in. The sound of small animals rustling beneath the brush echoed through the trees. The hoot of an owl in the distance seemed to surround her.

“It isn’t as beautiful as you are.”

She turned and smiled at him. To some it may have seemed like a cheesy line, but to Kayla it was everything. She nudged him with her elbow and tried not to laugh.

“That line sounds like it should be in a movie, or maybe a romance novel.”

He shrugged, but held a smile. “Maybe, but it’s true. You are more beautiful to me than anything in this world. He brushed his thumb along the back of her hand. Goose bumps prickled over her skin.

“Where are we going?”

He lifted his hand and pointed in front of them. “There is a beautiful meadow just a little bit ahead. I want you to see it.”

They walked in silence for several long moments. When they finally made their way through a cluster of trees, Kayla gasped in wonder and awe. Before them was an intimate and ethereal meadow. Although it was night, flowers bloomed all around the circle of trees. She looked into the sky. The moon was right above her and shined in all its glory. The meadow was like an oasis, perfect.

Before she could even comment on the beauty of it all, Adrik had her pressed against an aspen. Kayla gasped in delight as she looked into his face. He moved closer to her, pressed his rigid cock into her belly, and slowly pumped his hips back and forth. Her pussy instantly became wet, and her clit throbbed.

His hands went to her hair, and he tilted her head to the side. She didn’t fight his dominance. In fact, she reveled in it. He ever so slowly moved his head toward hers. At the first press of his mouth against hers, a gush of moisture seeped out of her vagina. She spread her thighs wider. Her whole body heated when he took the hint and wedged his massive form closer. His cock was hard and thick, and she could practically feel it throb beneath his pants.

Their heads tilted further, and their kiss became fierce and wild. Their tongues pressed against each other, moving in a sensual slide that had her thrusting her hips against him. His hands moved down and wrapped around her wrists. He slowly lifted them above her head without breaking the kiss.

When their kiss broke, she panted. He trailed his tongue along her throat. She could feel her pulse accelerate from excitement. She wanted his bite desperately. She felt the scrape of his fangs along her neck and moaned in delight.

“I’m going to make you feel so good, Kayla.” He turned her around so that her back was to his chest. He brought his mouth to her ear, his hot breath tickling the sensitive skin and inflaming her lust. “You will keep your hands above your head.”

She shivered in delight at his possessive and dominating tone. It turned her on even more. It made her pussy wetter, made her nipples stab against the material of her dress.

The sound of her zipper being pulled down penetrated the thick arousal that laced its way around her mind. The wind teased her now-overheated flesh as the material pooled at her feet. She stepped out of it and looked over her shoulder. Adrik’s gaze was on her ass. She could tell just from his expression that he liked what he saw. She lifted her ass, wanting him to touch her. The sound of his growl caused her pussy to leak, her own wetness soaking her panties and slipping down her thigh.

Kayla sucked in air when his palm landed on her ass, the crack of skin against skin echoing through the tiny clearing. Her skin burned where he had spanked her, but it was a burn that felt oh so good. His fingers looped beneath the waistband of her G-string and slowly dragged it down her legs until it, too, pooled at her feet. She had gone braless, and the scrape of the bark against her nipples brought a pleasure-pain that startled her.

His palm slapped against her ass once more, and she tilted her head back and closed her eyes as pleasure washed through her. His fingers teased her saturated slit but never delved farther in.

“I’m not being too rough, am I?” His voice was hoarse, his words barely a deep whisper as he continued to palm her ass.

She shook her head, not trusting her voice to confirm what he was doing was making her hotter, wetter.

“Good, that’s really good, baby. I don’t think I could have stopped anyway.”

His hot breath wafted across her bare pussy, and she snapped her eyes open. She panted as she looked over her shoulder and down at him. He was on his haunches, his attention on her ass as he continued to massage the globes. His hand went to the erection that she could clearly see pressed against his pants. He started to rub it, up and down, slow and then fast.

He blew a steady stream of hot air across her pussy lips before removing his hands from his shaft and squeezing her ass cheeks. He spread them, and although she should have felt embarrassed and self-conscious about where his face was, the only thing that penetrated her arousal-infused brain was how good it felt.
