Cormac (15 page)

Nodding, she sent a small prayer of thanks
that her grandda would be taken care of. He had help if he needed it, and if
she was killed now, he’d have her pension as well as her insurance. When Otis
told her to go to her knees, she did so. There was no hope to survive this now.
But as she lowered herself to the sidewalk, she snapped as many pictures as she
could, hoping that someone would find them.

The first shot took her breath away as it
entered her chest. The next one hit her in the thigh, and she knew that it was
going to be a long time coming, her death. But when she fell back, her entire
body being slammed by bullets, she heard her grandda screaming in the phone
that they were coming. She had no idea why he thought they weren’t already
there.
