“You were very clear in the fact you wanted me to tie you up last night. I think it’s time we checked that off the list.”

“I was intoxicated last night.”

“You were uninhibited last night, asking for what you really wanted.”

He was right. She wanted a bad boy. She wanted it hard and dirty. That’s why she’d turned to him in the first place, but she didn’t have to admit it all to him. “I was saying what I thought you wanted to hear.”

“Liar.” He closed in and kissed her lips after whispering the word. He then lifted to gaze into her eyes.

Jace’s stare pierced her. He knew the truth, so what was the point of denying it? She’d gone this far; she could let him push her a little further.

“Tell me you want it, Kensington.”

She opened her mouth, the admission on her lips, but no words would come out.

Disappointment washed over his expression before he captured and hid it. “Would you rather I release you and drive you home?”

No!
Her eyes rounded in near terror, the thought of not going through with his plans, leaving her throbbing, wanting, and desperate, enough to make her cry out.

“Then say it, dammit! Tell me you want me tie you to my bed and fuck you as hard as I can. Tell me again, because you already did last night.”

A sob came up from her chest. “Yes! I want you to tie me up and fuck me.”

“Hard?”

“Yes!” Her voice cracked as she begged him for what only he could give her. She felt raw; his demand for admission stung.

Jace’s lips came down hard on hers, a crushing kiss that further demanded her surrender. She opened her mouth to his, and his tongue swept in. She still tasted her musk on him, reminding her of the passion he’d already rent from her body. She somehow knew it was only the tip of the iceberg.

He rose above her, resting on his knees between her splayed thighs. Gazing at her body, he rubbed his cock, pumping the shaft in his lean fingers. He leaned over to the bedside table, pulled out a foil packet, ripped it open with ease, and sheathed himself in latex. Her mind hadn’t even been on protection; he’d pushed her past the point of self-preservation. The only thing spiraling through her mind was the pleasure he promised to deliver.

She felt his fingers spreading her juices around her pussy and trembled. Kenzie needed him to fill her, spread her wide with his jutting cock. He dropped a kiss to her belly and then blazed a trail up her chest, between her breasts, until his mouth found her own. As soon as his tongue swept between her teeth, he plunged into her with one forceful stroke. Jace sucked the gasp that came from her throat, kissing it away, as he plummeted the depths of her, his dick thrusting unmercifully.

He beat out a ruthless tempo, rolling his hips as he crashed down into the circle of her thighs, hitting her inner walls from every angle possible. Her moans comingled, one starting before the previous one was barely done. Jace drove her hard, his shaft giving her the delicious friction she needed. She felt the familiar sensation of another orgasm roll over her, her muscles tensing as she waited for that perfect stroke, building the fire, higher and higher, as she clung to the edges of oblivion.

Eyes rolling back in her head, she tumbled over into the abyss, crying out as she shattered. Jace slowed within her, lazily rolling his hips, his hard cock still ready for more.

“I think that makes two. How about we go for three?”

Her mind was clouded, blanketed by the heavy haze of his sexual expertise. The only orgasms she’d ever experienced had been at her own fingers, and those couldn’t touch the intensity this man had ravaged from her body. His hips began to pump once more, faster this time, his face contorting in pleasure as he filled her, a crushing rhythm pushing her to the crescendo once more, so quickly. He was a master, knowing exactly what she needed, knowing her body even more than she did. It was overwhelming, scary, and mind-blowing all at the same time.

His back arched, and he began to growl, his cock jerking within her. That little sensation was enough to throw her over again, her cries mixing with his as they found completion together. Breathing in deeply, she could barely get enough air. She was too exhausted to move. Even if she had the ability to, she couldn’t since he hadn’t removed the cuffs.

Jace slipped gently from her and walked to his bathroom, pulling the condom off as he walked. She watched his retreating back and began to contemplate her egress. Fear hit her. She’d actually done it. She’d fucked Jace Briarfield. Not sure she could face him after her wanton act, she pulled at the cuffs once more, trying to get loose.

Granted, it had been the most mind-blowing sex she’d ever had. Ever. But he’d also opened her, baring her soul, cracking the wall she put up around herself. That’s not what it was supposed to be. It was a good time to clear out the cobwebs and get over her fascination for him, to show her what he really was. This was all about one night—or one morning, rather. And now that it was over, it was time to split before she was one of the crying morons left in his wake. Unfortunately, he’d left her there trussed up, so she couldn’t go anywhere.

“If you needed some help, all you had to do was ask.”

She looked up as she heard him. He watched her trying to escape the cuffs, a knowing look on his face as he leaned against the doorframe.

“Well, we’re done. And it’s past time for me to go.”

“Wham, Bam, Thank You—Sir? Wow, I feel—used.” His quip made her chuckle, but she stopped short at the wash of anger she hadn’t expected to see coat his face.

“Isn’t that
your
nickname? I mean, you didn’t want cuddle time, did you?”

“And what if I did?”

She wanted to laugh again at his response but couldn’t with the look of total seriousness on his face. “It’s not your style.”

“How do
you
know what my style is? You’ve let everyone else, who supposedly knows everything there is to know about me, color your perception of who I am.” He stalked over and reached across her to release the cuffs. “You know, you’re right. What was I thinking? Why would I want to cuddle with
you
?”

The angry sneer on his face spoke volumes.

She’d put it there, her assumptions doing just what they were said to do—
Make an ass of you and me.
Kenzie felt a sudden flood of sadness that she’d never attempted to see what was on the inside of the gorgeous face, the stories about him so easy to accept. She was a heartless bitch, one who’d used and abused him because she assumed
he
was a user and abuser.

“I thought you were different, Kensington. I guess I was wrong. I wish like hell I hadn’t been.”

“I thought I was different, too. Apparently, I’m not.” She felt horrible. She really did.

His eyes softened for a split second before hardening again. “Get dressed, and I’ll drive you home.”

Chapter 4

Jace sat beside her in his SUV, the console between them much too small for his liking. He couldn’t wait to get her to the door and out of his life. Kensington had been a distraction for far too long as it was. Work had suffered. His need to go out with his new friends just to have the chance to see her, to share a moment of time with her, had been getting him more and more behind. He needed to focus on real life, not the fantasy of what could have been and never would be.

“I’m sorry, Jace. I really am.”

“Save it, Kensington,” he clipped out much stronger than he intended. He was hurt, and he’d never had a woman hurt him like this. Her low esteem of him had cut like a knife. He’d first thought he could change her mind by treating her with respect when she was at a low point. He then gave in to her desires when she was past it. Jace had given her exactly what she’d asked for, what he’d yearned for, hoping it would spark an interest and she’d stick around to find out more.

He hadn’t meant to leave her bound, but he’d forgotten. He was on his way back to release her, but as she lay there in his bed, struggling to free herself from the bonds, she had the look of a crazy woman. At first, he’d thought she might even gnaw through her own wrists to get away. And if a woman didn’t want to be with him, he wasn’t going to pursue her. He had been wrong. And that cut like a knife, too.

He had thought he’d sensed her interest in him. The fact that she hadn’t thrown herself at him had been enjoyable, a challenge, but he’d been sure there was craving simmering under the surface. Maybe she had only wanted him to relieve her sexual appetite, but he’d felt more. Perhaps there really had only been disdain there, and his desire for her had clouded his perception.

Kensington had enjoyed his body in bed; there was no denying that. Even
she
couldn’t have faked the sensual reactions to his lovemaking, but then she’d tried to escape him. Apparently, he just wasn’t the relationship-type guy. He didn’t fit in that box. This proved it.

As he pulled in front of her house, she turned to him, pity in her eyes. She could choke on that pity and get the hell out of his vehicle.

“I didn’t mean any of it to come across as it did. I was a bitch. I didn’t see it from your perspective at all, and I should have. And I’m so sorry.”

Her seemingly heartfelt apology struck him. The sincerity in her voice made his chest ache, but she’d already proven to him he was a failure at making a relationship work. There was no point in trying to right this train wreck. “I appreciate the apology, Kensington. I do. But I think I’m just not made out to be that guy.”

That
guy?”

“You know.
That
guy. The
boyfriend
. I wanted to try with you, but apparently I’m just not cut out for it.”

Kenzie had been wrong about him. It wasn’t just his words, but the infinite sadness that rolled over him in waves. She’d hurt him, and she needed to make it right. But perhaps now wasn’t the time. He needed time to calm down, to think things over, and then she needed to make things right, somehow.

She wasn’t really ready for a commitment, but she couldn’t leave him feeling like he wasn’t relationship material when the loneliness of his world was slapping her in the face: the cold house with nothing out of place; the bare walls with no pictures or art; no knickknacks showing the world what he loved; no woman in his life to share things with. He was coasting through life, and he needed a spark. She may not be that spark, but she was sure she could make things better. She just needed to figure out how.

Reaching for the door, she looked back to him once more. “I really am sorry.”

“I know you are. Good-bye, Kensington.”

As she slid from the seat onto the pavement, her chest tightened. This wasn’t how this whole experience was supposed to go. Regret for what she’d done in his bed, sure. Guilt and remorse for making him feel cheap and abused? No, that’s definitely not how this was supposed to end. How could she have been so wrong? How could she have allowed everything her friends said color her world so easily, making her miss out on a guy who may have risen above expectation?

Kenzie shook her head as she walked. It had ultimately been for the best. Work was her focus right now, not having a boyfriend. She had plans, and those plans didn’t include a man. But she surely didn’t want him to think she was a pigheaded fool. She needed to clear the air somehow and make him realize he wasn’t what she assumed.

Jace watched her walk away, a cruel twist forming in his gut. He’d wanted this one to be different. For once, he could see himself sharing intimate nights, sleeping next to a warm loving body, waking up the following day with her in his arms, and making love in the early morning sunshine. He desired a partner for the first time in his life. Her apologies had made it harder for him to push her away, but it was best for both of them. Eventually, he may have proven to her he was the asshole she had thought he was.

Nearly two weeks had passed since the fateful morning in Jace’s bed. He had changed the sheets, except for her pillow. Her scent was nearly gone, but he still awoke each morning with his arms around it, sniffing her perfume, his mind tricking him into thinking she was there. He turned to his back, after throwing the pillow across the room, and gazed at the ceiling. He was an idiot. Women weren’t something he mooned over. There was always a willing one right around the corner, so why bother brooding?

Except now he compared each of the women he met to Kensington.

This one didn’t have eyes as nice as Kensington’s. That one’s smile wasn’t as wide. This one was too short. That one was too skinny. There had never been much of a bar of expectation when it came to women. If they were reasonably attractive and eager, then so be it. Now, he found them all lacking.

Groaning, Jace pulled himself out of the bed, putting two feet on the cold floor. He ran a hand through his hair and contemplated calling in sick. A mental health day—that’s what he needed. Too bad he couldn’t take one. Plus, he hadn’t called in sick for five years, and he sure as hell wasn’t going to do it now when he was ruminating over a female.

His phone buzzed from the bedside table. He picked up his cell and saw he had a text message.

I owe you big for last time. I want to make it up to you. Dinner tonight?-K

He looked at the screen, his heart yammering in his chest as he read over the text again, checking three times to make sure his eyes were reading it right. Kensington. All the thoughts he’d had just moments ago were gone, the desire to see her foremost in his mind. He missed seeing her. He missed knowing what was going on in her world. He missed her. Dinner couldn’t hurt, right?

Yeah, sure. When?

How about 7? Faustino’s over on Harbaugh Ave?

Meet you there.

Great, it’s a date. XO

Jace caught himself smiling at the screen. Maybe today wouldn’t be so bad after all. Showering, his body thrummed as he walked under the pulsing jets of water. Just the thought of seeing her had made him react, his cock swelling. Fisting the shaft, he pumped leisurely and then laid more shower gel on his hand before sliding his hand along it again. Images of her under him, straining for release wafted into his head.
