“Are you a shifter?” She blurted. Not that the answer mattered in the wake of his outburst. He wanted her. Like
really
wanted her. And she wanted him just as bad.

“Yes. I am.”

The air in the room seemed to still as they stood there staring at each other, neither making a move. The implications of hearing it out loud slammed into her.

He wasn’t human.

She was.

“We aren’t supposed to do this are we?” Every question that popped into her head kept getting harder and harder.

“If we were just going to have sex and you didn’t know about shifters it would be fine. But it won’t just be sex and you already know. To proceed will be extremely dangerous.”

“It won’t just be sex?”

He shook his head. “Not if I can help it. My wolf wants you as a mate and that is very difficult to deny.”

That little revelation made Sienna’s head spin. Things were definitely going way to fast.

“I don’t even know what that means,” she said.

“It’s a little like a human marriage except it’s driven by biology and desire in the animal instincts of a shifter and usually when it happens it happens for life. There are no divorce courts for shifters.”

“Are you crazy? We’ve know each other what? Seven hours? We aren’t getting married.”

“Mated.”

“Mated, whatever.” Her chest was starting to hurt and she couldn’t catch her breath. “This is too much.”

“I know it is, baby. But the truth of the matter is. Now that you know about shifters you can’t go back. Not to the bar. Not to your apartment. Not even to your life.” He cupped her cheek and pressed a quick kiss to her forehead, causing her to flinch.

“What am I supposed to do?” she asked.

He ignored her question. “But our mating could save your life.”

Whoa. She took several steps back until her butt hit the counter behind her. She definitely couldn’t catch her breath.

Gage closed the distance between them in one stride and wrapped his arms around her. “Easy. Try to take a slow, deep breath. You’re hyperventilating.”

God she was and she couldn’t stop. She quit trying to process everything he’d said and focused solely on following his directions. After a few minutes of deep rhythmic breathing and the stroke of his hand up and down her back, she calmed.

“I would prefer to ease you into this information and take the time you need to process it, but I’m afraid we don’t have that kind of time. I believe the wolves from the bar are probably still hunting us.”

“But why?”

“Because they are responsible for what you saw. That carries a stiff penalty alone, but if you get a chance to tell anyone, things will be infinitely worse for their pack.”

She tried to hold up her hand to stop him. “Please no more. Everything you say sounds more ominous than the last. I can only take so much bad news at once.”

“Then let me take the fear away. I can help you.” He shifted his big body closer, effectively caging her in with both hands on either side of her.

She took another slow breath and let it out on a long exhale, trying to ignore the instinct to lift herself up and wrap her legs around his waist. Apparently her body didn’t get the message from her brain that he was off limits. “How?”

“Like this.” He dipped his head back toward her neck and kissed her several times on the outer shell of her ear.

Damn, it felt really good when he did that.

“You still want to have sex with me?”

He laughed softly, continuing to pepper her neck with kisses. “I’ve wanted to be inside you since the moment I laid eyes on you back at the bar.”

A soft moan escaped her control. As much as she wanted to protest, she couldn’t. Not while her toes were curling at the sensations flooding through her. She wanted to indulge with him too. All weirdness aside, he was the stuff every girl’s fantasy consisted of. Hard bodied, gorgeous face, tousled hair with intense eyes all wrapped in the perfect leather and denim package. The kind of thing that should be experienced at least once in a lifetime, if not more. Especially after she’d been dumped by her ex for a prettier, thinner model.

Gage grasped the side of her face and tilted her head back so their lips aligned and their gazes met. “Do you believe in fate?” he asked.

“I—I don’t know. Maybe.”

“I never did.” He slid his hand under her tank top. “But I’m starting to rethink that position.”

His big hand against her naked stomach made her insides tremble. He palmed her breast, squeezing the soft mound. He nipped at her ear lobe. “This is the part where you unhook your bra, babe. Unless you want me to slice it off with a claw.”

Letting out a low groan, she lifted the tank top and reached behind her to undo the clasp of her lacy bra. Since it was one of her favorites and she wasn’t sure she was ready to see his claws, she did as he asked. No sooner did she get the straps pulled down her arms and untangled from the top she still wore and his hands were on her, lifting the tank top above her breasts.

“Fuck,” he said. “You are so perfect.” He cupped both breasts and flicked over her nipples with his thumbs.

A part of her still thought this was a questionable idea at best, but with his hands igniting her body, her brain didn’t have a chance.

Giving in, she wrapped her hands around his neck and pulled his mouth down to hers. She didn’t really know what she expected from him, but the hard, demanding kiss he met her with wasn’t it. He pushed his tongue against her lips, forcing her to open for him, and plunged in and out while grinding his hips against hers. All the while his fingers continued to play with her nipples.

A wave of lust far more powerful than anything she experienced before crashed into her as he slammed his cock against her clit. The fact they both still wore pants did little to diminish the sensations and instead she met him thrust for thrust. Keening moans filled the room, surprising her when she realized they came from her.

Gage broke the kiss, a growl rumbling loud in his chest. His eyes were glowing gold and the features of his face reminded her of the animal that lurked somewhere inside him. A shiver worked down her spine.

“Don’t fear me.” His voice was hoarse. “I would never do anything to hurt you physically, but there’s a part of me that will go crazy with the need to subdue you if you show fear.”

She blinked, his words jumbling around in her head.

“No fear, babe.” He nuzzled her neck again before grazing his teeth lightly across her skin. “Only all the pleasure you deserve.”

He moved his mouth lower, taking a nipple and sucking it in deep. “Ohhh. Gage.” She moaned while arching her back, forgetting all about being afraid. Her sex squeezed, leaving her with an ache of emptiness she needed resolved now.

“Gage. Please. Your cock in me now.” She had never been so bold in her life, but this need to have him inside her hurt. It really did need to happen right this second. She shoved her hands in between then and tried to pull at the fastenings of his jeans.

“Goddamn. Yes. Fucking need you too.”

Chapter Seven

Gage yanked at her jeans and shoved his hand inside her panties, groaning when he hit her wetness. The heavy scent of her arousal had been driving him crazy, but this—

He dropped to his knees and pulled her pants down with him. First he was going to bury his face between her legs until she screamed from too much pleasure and then he would fuck them both mindless. Because mindless is what it would take to get through this.

Despite the alarm bells in his head clamoring for his attention, he didn’t care if he got lost in her. Whether she admitted it or not, she was his mate. It was in her power to ultimately deny him, but at the moment she was begging for him and he couldn’t leave his mate in any kind of pain.

He was done playing the denial game.

Gage dove face first, heart pounding and fastened his mouth onto her clit at the same time pushing a finger inside her.

Her sudden gasp and her fingers grasping his hair filled him with an immense satisfaction almost as powerful as her intoxicating taste. She moaned and groaned, bucking against his face as he savored every sweet drop of her arousal.

With the amount of wriggling and groaning coming from his adorable human he knew it wouldn’t take much more to send her over the edge. He couldn’t wait to make her come.

He didn’t wait long. Her movements turned frenzied as she bucked against his mouth with frantic jerks that culminated in her body stiffening and her muscles clamping down on his finger.

“Oh my God, Gage.”

Another satisfied growl rumbled up his throat as he consumed all she had to give. Then he was standing, nuzzling between her breasts and rubbing his fingers across her small rounded belly. He licked, kissed, and stroked her everywhere, unable to get enough of her. With his cock nestled between her legs he couldn’t wait to finally get inside her.

At the same time his cell phone pealed loudly in his jeans, his head jerked up in alarm.

He sniffed the air.

Danger.

“What’s wrong?”

He grabbed his pants from where they hung loosely around his hips and jerked them up.

“Why are you growling? What’s wrong?”

He hadn’t even realized he was. “Get dressed. We have to leave now.”

“Now? Why?” Her voice had risen several octaves.

“Shhh. Stay quiet and do exactly as I say.” She started to speak and he covered her mouth. “Wolves outside,” he whispered. “Seriously, we have to go right now.”

To her credit she nodded and grabbed her tank top from the kitchen counter and shoved it over her head. He grabbed her hand and led her to the back door closest to where he stashed his bike. Thank God he’d had the foresight to park behind the small shed instead of in and around the larger carport.

In front of the door he stopped and lifted his head. The scent was stronger here. He turned around and motioned toward the bedroom. The wolves were too close for them to make a clean break for it. They’d likely have a confrontation on their hands. Either way they were running out of time.

Gage skirted the bed and went straight for the window, hanging back enough to see outside without giving away his position. With supernatural sight, hearing and smell he could sense far more than a human. However, up against another shifter they were on a level playing field. His only advantage was getting his mate out of the house first and on the back of his bike.

He knew there were at least three of the wolves outside—he could scent them easily. However, he could not pinpoint their locations from this vantage point. He needed to get outside.

Gage pulled Sienna close and he placed his mouth against her ear. “We’ve got to go through the window now. Whatever you do, don’t say anything. They’ll hear you.”

The sharp scent of her fear assaulted him. Depending how close the other wolves were, they may have scented it as well.

She nodded her head and he quietly lifted the window, before gently removing the screen. Fortunately the window was almost floor to ceiling so it would be easy for them both to step out. Keeping hold of her hand he stepped through and stopped to survey the area, leaving her just inside until he determined it safe for her to exit.

Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a shadowy figure headed toward the back door. Gage made sure he stayed out of sight until the other man moved away. He pulled Sienna from the house and plastered her to his back. He had to keep her close, try to make it difficult for them to sense her fear.

Crouched in the darkness, Gage searched the area for signs of the other wolves. The one at the back door had to either be in the house by now or was about to be. Either way if they didn’t move now, they would not get another chance. At the faint sound of tinkling glass, he sprung up and started running in the shadows of perimeter with Sienna in tow.

They were almost to the shed and the bike behind it. Fifty more feet and they’d be clear.

“Hold it right there.”

Gage turned, shoving Sienna behind him and faced the unshifted wolf who’d started all the trouble back at the bar. He still looked human but with the amber glow of his eyes and the snarl on his face, the animal was right at the surface readying to battle.

“She’s not going anywhere with you.”

“She sure as hell isn’t going with you.” Gage snarled. This situation was about to devolve and he knew the other man’s lackey’s would be here any second. He turned his head to Sienna. “Run, babe.”

“But I—”

“Trust me to find you later.”

She nodded and then turned and ran, rounding the back of the shed a moment later.
