Snow Wolf: Wolves of Willow Bend (Book 9) (22 page)

“You can’t stay away from them that long,” she sounded positively scandalized.

“I know, it was my secret weapon if you wanted to make me work harder to win you.” And one he’d been prepared to gamble, but she’d all but committed to him in Russia. Her need to declare her intentions, to own her actions before her pack, he’d also understood.

“I’m not going to get mad about that. I can’t.” Satisfaction rolled off her. “I almost got off the plane in Seattle, then wanted to turn around and leave as soon as we landed here. The farther away from you I thought I was, the worse it seemed.”

“Never again,” he promised.

“Never, though I admit I’m not sure I am keen on the idea of running wolf for months on end. I know it’s how you’ve always done things…”

“So is change,” he assured her. “We can change anything, Dove. We can change where we live, how we live, even our rituals and order. What I will never change is loving you.”

“Good,” she snuggled against him again. “I’m very possessive, and I never give up what’s mine.”

“Then we’re perfect for each other.” They quieted, drifting together. The next day would come soon enough, and he would meet with Mason and the other Alphas. They would settle on their course of action, then he would take his Dove home.

“Diesel?” Dove half-mumbled, her yawning whisper betraying her sleepy status.

“Yes, Dove?”

“What did you have to give Mason? Serafina gave him Tennessee for Linc. What did you give him for me?”

Diesel chuckled.

She opened her eyes, then lifted her head to study him. “What was it?”

The last thing he wanted to give anyone. “My phone number.” When her eyes rounded, he chuckled again. “And my promise to always answer it when he called.”

His Dove was worth far more than ignoring the rest of the world. For her—for their pack—yes, even he could change.

About the Author

National bestselling author, Heather Long, likes long walks in the park, science fiction, superheroes, Marines, and men who aren’t douche bags. Her books are filled with heroes and heroines tangled in romance as hot as Texas summertime. From paranormal historical westerns to contemporary military romance, Heather might switch genres, but one thing is true in all of her stories—her characters drive the books. When she’s not wrangling her menagerie of animals, she devotes her time to family and friends she considers family. She believes if you like your heroes so real you could lick the grit off their chest, and your heroines so likable, you’re sure you’ve been friends with women just like them, you’ll enjoy her worlds as much as she does.
