The Boston Debutante (The Debutante Series Book 1) (9 page)

Megan and Macy felt their stomach start to growl with the anticipation of sinking their teeth into some delicious steak.

The wood-burning stove soon heated up the cabin running everyone outside to cool off. The afternoon sun was beating down on the cabin adding to the heat.

Turk went around and opened all the windows and doors to let some of the heat out.

Megan and Macy went out and sat under a tree next to the shack where a cool breeze could blow on them.

Megan ask Macy, “Macy what do you think of Turk now that you two are on speaking terms?”

“Well I think he is a big good looking guy for sure but he is
self-centered and demanding. He is also arrogant and obnoxious at times but deep down I think he might be pretty good man. Those deep steel blue eyes seem to look right through me and that makes me uncomfortable.”

Megan laughed, “In other words you kind of like him a little better now?”

“Only if he quits being hateful to me. I think I like him well enough as a cousin or at least a relative. Why do you want me to like him so much?”

“I just think things will go better if you two get along. I know it would make Mom happy.”

“If you are thinking anything romantic you can forget it. Turk is not my kind of man. I want a man that has a future not a cowboy that smells like a horse most of the time.”

“Macy Turk has a good future ahead of him and once you get used to smelling horses on men it kind of becomes a
n aphrodisiac.”

After everyone had finished their lunch they lay around and rested while they talked the rest of the afternoon.

Turk spent all afternoon with Megan and Macy. He wanted to be as close to Macy and Megan as he could without drawing too much attention from the other men. The more he looked at Macy the more he liked her and wanted to be near her. She felt so good and so soft when he held her against him.

As long as Megan was there with them he just looked like he was talking to his sister.

He noticed that Macy’s legs were a little red from being in the sun all day long in shorts.

He mentioned it to her and said, “Tomorrow you had better wear long pants or you are going to get burned.”

Macy lifted one leg at a time up and looked at it, “Yes I did get a little red today. I should have brought some sun block with me.”

He looked at her legs again and said, “I wouldn’t want anything to happen to those legs. You have the prettiest legs I think I have ever seen.”

Macy felt a twang of embarrassment in her face. She had no idea of where that came from or why she reacted like she did but men had looked at her legs before. The only difference was they kept their comments to themselves. Turk didn’t do that. He said what he thought.

Megan grinned at Turk and then watched for Macy’s reaction. She could see a little tint come to her cheeks.

“Ok Turk, don’t start that kind of talk. I don’t know what it is about you but you are to forward and aggressive. I’m not use to that kind of talk and it makes me feel uncomfortable.”

“But Macy you are so beautiful I can’t keep my eyes off you. I just want to take you in my arms, hug squeeze and never let you go.

Megan looked at Macy. She could see that Turk was starting to make her feel real uncomfortable. That tent in her cheeks had turned bright red.

“Turk that’s enough of that talk. Macy knows how beautiful she is without you describing it in detail. She doesn’t even know you. Now behave or I will make you.”

Turk looked at Macy and said, “I’m sorry Macy I just get carried away sometime. I’m a very passionate person when it comes to a beautiful woman.”

Macy looked at Megan and replied, “I’m not beautiful. I think I am just an average looking girl. I don’t know why men are
always trying to hit on me. In college they were always asking me out but I knew what that was for, they were after a cheap thrill.

I saw it so many times when boys ask girls out and as soon as they got what they wanted they never called the girl back again. Well that’s not going to happen to me. I was raised better
than that.”

Turk sat there listening to every word out of her mouth. At least he felt he had told Macy how he felt about her. She would have plenty time to really get to know him.

His whole attitude was starting to change some toward Macy. He was starting to see that she was not the evil witch he first thought she was.

Megan asked her about wanting to teach school.

“I just love kids and I thought the best way I could be around them and maybe teach them something at the same time was to be a teacher.”

“You mean you like kids?”

“I love kids. I hope when I get married I have a whole house full.”

“Macy, you know to have kids you have to have man?”

“I have one back in Boston. As soon as he gets his Law Practice going we are going to get married.”

“Oh you are engaged then?”

“Yes we are not officially engaged yet. He wants to marry me but he wants to wait till he gets everything going.”

Megan looked at Turk. To her surprise he looked a little disappointed.

Every minute Turk was with Macy was making his heart grow fonder of her. His eyes searched her every minute she wasn’t watching. He looked at her hair, pulled back in a ponytail and partially covered by the Stetson he had picked up for her. She had on small diamond earrings.

He wanted to reach over and release her hair and let it float down her shoulders as he laid his hands in the softness. He looked at her face with her makeup on. Surprisingly she had to wear very little makeup. Her face was one that had a natural glow that didn’t require a lot of makeup to make her beautiful.

She was one of those women who could go without a bra and still look as if she had one on. Her fingernails were freshly manicured and painted with clear polish.

On one finger she had a large birthstone ring and on the other finger was a diamond that was big enough to choke a horse. That had to be her engagement ring Turk thought to himself.

She wore a tennis bracelet lined with diamonds on her right wrist and a small watch on her left wrist. Turk was letting his work slip. He wanted to set there and look at Macy the rest of the day.

This wasn’t like Buck at all. When he was out on the range working he usually
didn’t let anything interfere with what he had to do but somehow Macy was interfering.

Buck called everyone in to eat.

As they sat at the table Macy ended up setting beside Turk. As they ate Macy’s leg gently rested against Turks. Macy didn’t notice are she would have moved it.

Turk thought he was going to choke several times as he looked down but perseverance prevailed as he tried to put his situation out of his mind.

He was falling for Macy fast for some reason. He was supposed to hate her but there was something about her perfume and the innocent look in her eyes that kept drawing him to her. It was like a large wave hitting him and carrying him along.

He knew in the back of his mind that she would probably shun any attempt by him to make any headway with her because of her engagement.

He couldn’t quite describe the feelings he was having.

When suppertime was over everyone cleared the table for their card game. As the men sat down they sat their whisky bottles on the table with shot glasses.

Macy started worrying about the cowboys getting drunk and doing no telling what. Suddenly she didn’t feel as safe. She had never been around a bunch of drunken men but she had heard some horror stories that had happened to people.

Megan and Macy sat in chairs behind Turk as they started playing. Macy figured that would be the safest place if they did get drunk as long as Turk didn’t get drunk to.

Megan and Macy talked to each other in soft voices in order to keep from disturbing the men.

“Macy I think Turk kind of likes you. He has sure changed the way he acts toward you.”

“Megan I hope not. I just don’t want to do anything else to get him fired up.”

“If you wanted him he would be an easy catch for you.”

“Megan I have already told you I have a man.”

“Yes Macy but do you really love him.”

“I don’t know Megan but he is the one that may parents picked out for me. I can’t go against their wishes.”

“Macy this isn’t the dark ages any more. You can choose any man you want.”

“I know Megan but he is the only man that respects me.”

Finally Megan reached for Turk’s bottle and poured her some in a glass. She offered some to Macy but she refused. Macy had only drunk wine and it was only with her meal. She had never drunk enough to feel it.

As Megan drank and talked Macy watched her wondering what the booze tasted like. Megan seemed to really enjoy it.

“Megan, pour me a little bit of that in a glass. I think I want to taste it.”

Megan got up and fetched a glass for Macy. She poured her about two fingers in the glass.

Macy sipped it. When she swallowed it, it burned all the way down to her stomach.

She scrunched her face up and gagged.

“How can you drink that stuff? It tastes like rubbing alcohol.”

Megan laughed at her. They sat talking as Macy took small sips from her glass.

Before she knew it she had drank all the whisky in the glass.

She handed it to Megan for a refill.

Megan looked at her and asks, “Are you sure?”

“Go ahead. That stuff kind of grows on you.”

This time Megan filled the glass half full.  They continued to talk.

Macy was telling her all about Boston and her friends at the country club while Megan told her all about the west and the people that lived around there.

Macy asks Megan about the waitress at the café.

“Oh Mildred, she has been after Turk for years. I think when Turk gets horny he goes into town and spends the night with her.

Mom can’t stand her. She knows that Mildred is nothing but a whore. Mom wants someone to fall in love with Turk and get married so he will be away from her for good.

He needs a good woman to take care of him. You know Macy, Turk is a lot better man than you realize.

If you two ever got together he would never take advantage of you and leave you. He is directly a one-woman man.

He puts all his soul into his romance. He has never cheated on his girlfriends.

He may have the body of a man but in reality he is still a kid.

Mom wants to give him the Ranch when she dies but she wants someone that is a blood relative to also be part of it.”

Macy replied, “So that’s why she wanted me to come out here. She expects me to marry Turk so Turk can run the ranch with me. That isn’t going to happen Megan. I don’t like anything about the west.

Turk and I or like oil and water.  We could never get along long enough to run the ranch much less get married to him.

I couldn’t even bring myself to date him much less do something like that. Besides I am planning to marry my lawyer in Boston and I am going to teach school there not out in the middle of nowhere.

I’m sorry but if Aunt Maude has that planned for me she is going to be disappointed. I’m going back to Boston just like I told you as soon as we get back. These aren’t my kind of people. I have a certain social standard to up hold. If I were to even to date someone like Turk they would throw me out of the club. That is just the way it has to be.”

Megan started noticing that Macy was starting to slur her words. She was also getting a little louder.

Megan thought to herself, “Good she is getting drunk. It won’t be long before we see if she can loosen up and be a normal girl instead of so stuffy.”

She refilled Macy’s glass again. Macy kept on talking about going back to Boston while.

She started getting more bold and louder every second.

Suddenly she stood up dragging the chair across the floor causing everyone to stop and look at her.

She stood there for a second weaving back and forth. She walked over to Turk and rested her chin on his shoulder. She nibbled on his ear.

“Turk you bastard, there’s no way you are going to trick me into marrying you so you might as well put that out of your mind.

I am going to marry Michael as soon as he gets his law practice set up. As far as the rest of you men, you have been staring at my ass all day and I am tired of it. You damn men are a bunch of horny bastards.

If you want to see it so bad I’ll show it to you. She climbed on the table right in the middle of their card game and stood there looking down at them while she weaved back and forth. She undid her shorts and pulled them down while bending over exposing her butt to everyone.

Turk lunged for her but he was too slow to stop her in time.  He grabbed her shorts and pulled them back up just as she passed out and fell back in his arms.  He looked at Megan with a puzzled look on his face as he picked her up.

“Megan, I ought to kick your butt for letting Macy get drunk. You know she is going to have trouble riding in the morning.”
