The Slaver Wars: First Strike (The Slaver Wars Book Four) (44 page)

Whitmore
nodded. There were over sixty million people living in the deep underground
cities on New Providence. If this mission were successful, it would be time to
go back up and reclaim the surface of their world.

Admiral
Johnson was meeting with Admiral Telleck and President Kincaid back in the
Federation Council Chambers on Earth.

“They
destroyed two AI ships,” the president repeated, thrilled to hear the news. “So
the new ships and weapons worked.”

“Yes and no,” answered
Admiral Johnson, recalling what Admiral Streth had requested. “It was only our
AIs, Clarissa and Ariel that were able to use our ships and the Devastator
Three missiles to destroy the two AI ships. Lieutenant Katie Johnson says she
can design a new computer program that will allow the rest of our strike
cruisers to operate in the same manner. Admiral Streth is also recommending that
we increase the yield on the Devastator Three missiles to forty megatons.”

“What about
the AIs?” Kincaid asked with worry lines appearing around his eyes. “What will
their reaction be to our destroying two of their ships?”

“Unknown,”
Admiral Telleck responded in a grave voice. “We have never seen an actual AI.
Admiral Streth also reported that they found nothing in the ruins of the two AI
ships.”

“He’s bought
us some time,” Karla continued in a positive voice. “It will be months before
the Hocklyns and the AIs attack again. By destroying two AI ships, we have
demonstrated that the AIs are not invulnerable. That is going to shake the
Hocklyn Empire and may give the AIs reason to pause before they move against us.”

“What about
Admiral Stillson’s fleet?” President Kincaid asked, his eyes narrowing. “Is it
returning home to Ceres?”

Admiral
Telleck looked over at Fleet Admiral Johnson before replying. “No, it has been
permanently assigned to Admiral Strong and Fourth Fleet, and they will be
providing support to the Carethians. Governor Malleck has volunteered Ceres to
provide logistical support to the bears. A new supply fleet is already being
prepared, and Admiral Streth has approved of the plans.”

“I guess I am
not surprised,” Kincaid commented as he sat down behind his desk, indicating
for the others to sit down also. “Sometimes I wonder who is in charge of this
war, us or Admiral Streth?”

No one
answered, but they all knew what the truth was. They had all been taught since
grade school that the great Admiral Hedon Streth would someday awaken to save
the Federation from the Hocklyns. That day was here and Admiral Streth had
already won the first battle. They could only hope and pray that he continued
to do so.

The End

If you enjoyed
The Slaver Wars: First Strike and want the series to continue, please post a
review with some stars. Good reviews encourage an author to write and help
books to sell. Reviews can be just a few short sentences describing what you
liked about the book. If you have suggestions, please contact me at my website
listed on the following page. Thank you for reading The Slaver Wars: First
Strike and being so supportive. Current plans call for there to be two more
Slaver Wars books if the interest continues.

Coming soon! The
Slaver Wars: Retaliation

Admiral Jeremy
Strong is working frantically helping the Carethians prepare for the impending
attack of the Hocklyns and the AIs. Jeremy has also heard a rumor about a
mysterious ship that appeared at Admiral Streth’s new base. Supposedly, the
ship had been hurriedly escorted back to the Human Federation of Worlds. No one
was saying where the ship had come from or why it had been sent back home under
heavy escort.

In Hocklyn
space, Fleet Commodore Resmunt is preparing for his return to the worlds the
humans had driven him from. He has assembled the largest war fleet in Hocklyn
history. The fleet has new weapons and shields, but even more important are the
ten AI ships that will be going with him. The AIs are demanding that the humans
be annihilated and their home worlds destroyed.

Turn the page for a brief description of
Star One: Neutron Star

Star One: Neutron Star

It is the year 2044 on Earth. At the Farside observatory complex
on the Moon, a startling astronomical discovery has been made. A survey for
pulsars has found an x-ray source in a region of space where none has been
detected before.

Upon further investigation, they find that this x-ray source is
just outside of the solar system. The astronomers are paralyzed by what
they have found knowing what its disastrous ramifications might be.

A neutron star is approaching the solar system. It appeared out of
a small dust cloud that was shielding its approach. Armageddon has
arrived; the star is on a trajectory that will take it through the center of
the solar system. Life on Earth will not survive its passing.

The only hope for survival will be on the massive Star One space
station at the Earth-Moon Lagrange point or possibly in Tycho City deep beneath the Moon's surface. It will be a race against time to save a fraction of the
Earth's frightened population.

A power struggle will erupt on Earth over who is to survive. On
Star One and at Tycho City they prepare for the worst, unfortunately, the
threat from Earth might be just as dangerous as the approaching neutron star.
