“Because we’ll have to deal with my parents, especially my horrible mother who loves to tear apart any shred of confidence I have.”

              “Oh, she’s not that bad.”

“Are we talking about the same woman?”

“Evan, she’s not the witch you make her out to be. She’s actually kind of nice.” Nice was never the word to describe Mrs. Taylor.

Evan referred to her as a shrewd old pain in the ass, but others just mumbled the word bitch under the breath whenever they walked away from her. Evan couldn’t fathom how she won Sara over.

“When the hell did you two become close?”

“When you left me to go on tour for two months.” Evan rolled his eyes at Sara’s response. “Hey, you left me here. I had no clue where anything was other than your parent’s house and a few coffee shops. I went there to visit one day and she welcomed me in, showed me around their neighborhood and around ours, and she had me over for dinner several times.”

Evan didn’t realize the position he put Sara in when he left. He was quick to ask her to live with him, and didn’t consider what she had to go through in his absence. “I’m sorry.”

“You can make it up to me by going with me to your parents’ house for dinner tonight. Give them a chance to show you a different side of them.”

“Fine, but can we just spend the rest of today, just you and me in this bed?” His fingers traced a line up and down Sara’s arm, enticing her to release the tight grip she had on the sheets.

“I’ll send her a text to confirm, then I’m all yours until we have to get ready to go over there.” Evan nodded and allowed Sara to retrieve her phone. The moment she let her guard down, Evan brought his hand down between Sara’s legs. Rubbing her nub vigorously. “I-I can’t…let me…oh god. Let me send…the message.” Evan increased his pace, causing Sara to put down the phone and turn towards Evan.

Her movements surprised Evan as her hand grasped his hard-on. “I’m ready for another round, how about you?”

Chapter 24-Sara

Feeling how hard Evan was at her slightest touch excited Sara more than having his fingers working their magic against her nub. She stroked his shaft gently, knowing he enjoyed the buildup. For the next two minutes she gathered speed, letting the friction build. He was practically begging to be inside her.

A gentle kiss on his lips was all he received. One kiss before she slid down the bed. Her head disappeared under the sheets and comforter. Parting her lips, Sara’s tongue snaked out catching the tip. She could feel his body jolt from the surprise. The desire to see the look on his face would have been priceless, but allowing her movements to catch him off guard made it much more exciting.

She placed her lips at the top while her hand jerked Evan. His body seemed to relax, just long enough for her next move. She opened up, pushing him deep inside her mouth.

“Oh god baby; I want you,” Evan groaned. The covers lifted from Sara’s head, freeing her from her hiding spot. Wanting to please him the way he did to her the night before, Sara slid down his shaft, taking in his full length. Hands gripped her hair in the back as more strands were added to it. His hips gyrated, pushing him deeper inside her mouth.

Without warning, she pressed her teeth against him as she made her way back to the tip. She felt his body shiver and heard him moan with delight.

“Did you like that?” She looked into his eyes. They were wide, and the cheesy grin on his face expressed how much he loved her new move. “It read about it in Cosmo last month.” Her lips latched onto the soft underbelly of Evan’s package, sucking on it to draw another gasp from him.

“Remind me to get you a subscription to that magazine.”

She moved to place more in her mouth, but heard the phone vibrating on the table. “Ignore it,” she said. Watching the battle raging inside Evan’s brain, she saw him reach for the phone but brought his hand to the bed. “Good, I’ve been waiting two months for this.”

The vibration stopped for a moment, only to return a minute later. This time Evan grabbed the phone. Sara hoped he was going to let it go to voicemail before turning it off. Instead, he looked at the name.

“Shit, I gotta take this.” Sara let him up as he answered the phone. “Mr. Waters, how are you this morning?”

He wants to make me squirm when I’m on the phone
, Sara thought.
Then this should be fun
. She crawled to the edge of the bed behind Evan. Reaching around him, she grabbed his throbbing member, massaging it roughly in her hand. He tried to swat it away, but only made it worse for himself. He turned towards Sara, allowing her the chance to pounce at an opportune moment. She took him into her mouth again. He nearly dropped the phone with a look of surprise and excitement on his face. He tried to conduct business with his agent, but she was relentless in her pursuit to make him have an O while he was on the phone with his agent.

Finally, he pulled the cell away from his ear. “Baby please,” he begged. “As much as I want this right now, he’s calling to go over the specifics from the tour.”

Sara backed away, letting go of Evan’s rock hard rod. It stood at attention as if it were saluting her. “Fine,” she replied, but it was anything but fine. She was being cast aside for more work related B.S. making her feel like she didn’t matter.

Sara grabbed a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt from her dresser before storming out of the room. On some level, it was wrong for her to be mad. After all, this was Evan’s career and his dream. At the same time, she just got him back after he was away for two months. She had every right to be upset at them for launching into talk about the tour or his next book or whatever it was his agent felt necessary to call him about.

She put her clothes back on and sat in the living room watching T.V. It was early enough for her to catch the tail end of the Kelly and Michael show. She watched the last ten minutes of the show and began flipping through the channels when Evan walked in.

His eyebrows peaked when he entered the room. It was as if he were trying to read Sara’s face. There was no glimmer of hope on Sara’s face. She clicked the power button on the remote, folded her arms across her chest and stared Evan down with a look that demanded him to start talking.

“So, I just got off the phone with my agent.” There was nothing but dead air in response. “He said the tour went really well and has some ideas on how to get me some more exposure.” Sara’s eyes drifted towards the window, knowing there was a chance Evan would say he was going on tour again. “He told me to increase my presence on social media. I’ll have to go into the city tomorrow to meet with Waters and someone who will help me set up my accounts and how to use social media to my advantage.”

“So he didn’t mention anything about going on another tour?”

“He did, but it wouldn’t be for another couple of months. It’ll depend on how this social media campaign goes.”

Hearing they were planning on ripping Evan away from her so soon was an outrage. Her arms unfurled as she rose to her feet. “You just got home, and they want to take you away from me again?” She knew it was wrong to unleash her anger about it the moment the words leapt off her tongue.

“You knew I was an author when you met me. I was on tour then. It shouldn’t be so surprising that they want me to push this as much as we can. They want to make money from this, I want to make money from this, but most of all, I want people to know my name. I want people reading my books on trains and subways. I wanna go to a bookstore or a supermarket or a pharmacy and see my book sitting on their shelves.”

Sara could see Evan’s passion for his writing. It’s what made her love his book so much. It was what made her want to meet him, inevitably allowing her to fall in love with him.

She marched towards the bedroom, but Evan followed her down the hall. “Where are you going?”

              “Out.”

              “Out where?”

“I don’t know. I just need to get out of here for a bit.”

“Okay, so let me get dressed and…”

“No, I need to go alone. I need to think.”

              “Think about what?”

She shook her head while throwing her clothes into a ball on the floor. She slipped into her underwear and a pair of jeans. “I need to know if this,” she gestured to her, Evan and the room with her hands, “is what I want.”

She knew it was a huge slap in the face to Evan. It wasn’t meant to be, but she couldn’t lie to him or to herself. Quickly pulling another shirt over her head, she grabbed a purse and darted out the bedroom.

She hurried down the stairs, hoping to get out the door before Evan realized what she said. She made it to her car before the door opened again.

He stood there in his pajama pants with one of my t-shirts held in front of him. “Sara,” he shouted. “Come back; we need to talk about this.”

Sara heard him, but jumped into the driver’s seat, started the car, and sped away. She knew if she looked back, she would crumble and most likely drive back to the apartment.

“Come on; get it together,” she mumbled. Needing time to think, Sara knew she needed to get away for a little while. She just didn’t know where to go.

Seven minutes down the road took her to a parking lot. The front was packed with vehicles, but she just wanted to be alone. Instead of looking for a spot, she circled around to the back of the building, finding nothing but emptiness.

The silence gave her the time to think, but Sara’s thoughts soon turned against her. “Did I do the right thing? I mean I had every right to be pissed; right?” Rationalizing her decision was nothing more than trying to excuse her outburst of anger at her boyfriend trying to be successful. It was a ridiculous thought that just endangered her relationship. “Shit, what have I done? What if he doesn’t want someone that can’t accept being here while he’s on tour?”

It didn’t take Sara long to realize her error. Turning the ignition, the car roared to life, and sped back onto the street. Sara didn’t care if she got caught speeding, or how many people she cut off. Her only thoughts were to get back to the apartment before Evan decided he didn’t need her drama holding him back.

She pulled to a screeching halt in front of the apartment, slamming the door shut behind her. The keys were in her hand as she ran up the steps. With the front door open, she locked eyes with the man standing at the top of the stairs.

Evan quickly trotted down to the main level. “Is everything okay,” he asked. There was nothing but concern in his voice which melted Sara’s heart instantly.

“I-I just came back to say I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have run out like that on you. And…”

Evan wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close to his chest. “It’s okay,” he whispered.

Sara could feel his arms squeezing tightly. She tried to push away, but he held her firmly. “It’s not okay. I overreacted.”

“No, you didn’t. You were right. I had no business putting you through me being on tour for two months, leaving you behind, and then ask you to do it again so soon.”

“Yes, but this is your career.”

“Look at me,” Evan commanded. “None of it means anything if I don’t have you by my side. I want to make you happy.”

“You do, but I’m not going to be the cause of…”

Evan placed a finger on Sara’s lips, silencing her. “You’re not going to cause anything.” Sara watched as Evan moved to her side and took her by the hand up the stairs. “I had an idea while you were out. What if you went on tour with me?”

“Evan, I can’t exactly pick up and leave my job. I’ve only been working there for a couple months.”

“Okay, how about you come visit me for a week?”

              “I don’t know if I can.”

“We’ll work out the specifics with your job and I’ll take care of the flight.” She watched him walk to the side of the bed and grab his cell phone. “I just have to make a couple quick calls.”

“Evan, you don’t have to do that.”

“But I want to. I don’t want you here by yourself. And I would love nothing more than to have you on the road with me.”

“I’ll think about it. For now, I need to shower and get ready.”

              “Ready for what?”

“To go to your parent’s house.”

“Ah crap! Do we really have to go?”

“Yes, and you better be on your best behavior.”

“I will if she is,” he mumbled.

“I’m sure everything will be fine.”

Sara’s car pulled up to the Taylor house around six that night. Knowing Evan would take the longest route possible, she decided to drive, ensuring their prompt arrival. She placed the shifter into park and grabbed Evan’s hand.

“Come on; it won’t be that bad.”

“You try being attacked by wolves for twenty-five years, and see how eager you are to be thrown back in.”

Sara understood Evan not wanting to see his parents. He hated them for the way they favored his older brother and treated him like garbage. But while he was gone, she found comfort in being near them, as if it was her way of being close to Evan without him being present.

“I know you think this is going to be just like it was before you moved, but I promise you it’ll be different.” She watched his eyebrow perk up. “Don’t give me that look.”

They walked up to the front door. Sara held a bottle of wine while Evan pressed the doorbell. The door opened revealing a thin, bony woman with coal black hair.

“Evan, Sara; come in.” Mrs. Taylor hugged each of them, planting a kiss on each cheek. “It’s so nice to see you again sweetheart. And you,” she said while looking over Evan’s new fit body. “You look so much better, so much happier.”

              “Thanks mom,” Evan replied.

“Here let me take that,” Mrs. Taylor suggested. “Dinner is almost ready. Why don’t you come sit in the living room? Your father and I are dying to hear all about your book tour.”

Sara watched Mrs. Taylor lead them into the living room. Evan leaned into her and whispered, “What the hell’s gotten into her.”

“I told you; things have been different since you left.” She saw Evan’s disbelieving expression and brought him to the living room.

Mr. Taylor stood at their arrival and approached. He extended his hand to Evan, which was like watching a peace treaty between warring countries in the Middle East. Watching the reluctance in Evan’s eyes, the miracle happened. He accepted the peace offering, and shook his father’s hand.
