A Box Full of Darkness (Wilson Book 5) (28 page)

Author’s note 2

I’ve taken one small liberty with history that I have to admit to. The Military Reaction Force was probably discontinued in 1972 or 73. Unfortunately, since the actions of the MRF were so extreme, the UK Ministry of Defence are tight-lipped on all aspects of the operation including its termination. There is also no indication that members of the RUC assisted in the operations of the MRF. The inclusion of Wilson’s father in an operation was simply a fictional device. If you are interested in knowing more about the MRF, I suggest you watch BBC Panorama’s programme on
Britain’s Secret Terror Force
available at

.

Alternatively if the whole issue of collusion in Northern Ireland during the Troubles interests you, the best book I’ve found is
Lethal Allies
by Anne Cadwallader. It’s a tough read.
