She looked up at him through eyes blurred with tears. The tears streaked her face. Jon's face looked savage in the dim light.
Jon heard a soft noise in the hall. His eyes became narrow slits.
Come on in, Linda.”

Linda opened the door, flicking on the lights. She looked a bit sheepish at being caught eavesdropping. Her eyes widened at the sight of the naked woman on the bed, huddled in fright, tears running down her cheeks . . . and at Jon standing over her.
She lifted her eyes to his.
