A Kosher Dating Odyssey: One Former Texas Baptist's Quest for a Naughty & Nice Jewish Girl (23 page)

We went through many tissues watching the Holocaust movie
Le Rafle
, about the sickening roundup of French Jews in Paris in 1942. When I told her about our list of treasured memories, she asked, “What about
Dresden
?

referring to the German TV production about the February 1945 firebombing of that city. We found the drama of love and survival within the inferno quite enthralling and entertaining. Granted,
Le Rafle
and
Dresden
don’t sound like traditional “date movies,” but they worked for us. Setting aside our Texas-Northeast political squabbles, we’re in sync on the major life issues. And when you’re in your fifties, that’s MECE enough for me.

Right where it ought to be: The mezuzah on the doorpost of my home.
