Chapter Five

“Don’t think this means you can do this whenever you want.”

He lifted an eyebrow, as if to say they both knew that wasn’t true. “How about we go out some time then?”

She ran a finger over her throat and eyed him. Such a sexy man. Her blood started to heat again just looking at him. He would certainly be a distraction from her studies. But after how he’d made her feel, could she actually commit to never seeing him again?

After a moment’s hesitation, she replied, “Maybe.”

“Good. We can go out Friday.”

“I said maybe.”

“That’s what you say now, but I’ll see you Friday.” He waved a hand toward the opening to the quad, ignoring the deep scowl she gave him. “Come on, I’ll walk you back to your dorm.”

Erica blew out a long breath. “Oh, all right.”

They must have been in between the two buildings for a while. Students were now wandering through the quad, working their way to the cafeteria or early classes. She smiled, wondering what she would have done had they been caught. Already she imagined doing it again. Pressing him to the wall and kissing his chest, making him moan as she had done in the walkway…

“What’s that look all about? You look like you’re having sexy thoughts. Share with the class.”

She rubbed her lips together. “I was just thinking about Benny. Mm, that Benny. What a man!”

“Don’t even joke. I would have kicked his ass if he’d come anywhere near you. He was this close to getting a fist in his face.” He held his thumb and index finger a quarter of an inch apart to demonstrate just how close the man had come.

“Okay, so perhaps you’re not as bad as I’d originally thought.”

He laughed. “Is that your attempt at a compliment?”

“Just an observation.” She pursed her lips and pulled the coat tighter around her shoulders. “Don’t get cocky now.”

“I already did that.”

“Hey!”

He shrugged. “Well.”

She laughed. “You know, even as bratty as you are, I’m glad you took me up to your room.”

“Bratty? Really? I haven’t been called that since I was about six, and that was by my older sister, who was nine.”

“No one may have said anything, but I’m sure you were a brat.”

He cocked his head. “Maybe.”

She grabbed a leaf from the ground as they passed a tall oak in the center of the quad, and turned it between thumb and forefinger.

“So, tell me about the costumes.”

“What?” She glanced at him, unsure what he meant.

“You know, the sexy costume you wore.”

She grinned. “What exactly did I tell you last night?”

“Well, you didn’t tell me, exactly. You played Never Have I Ever, and said you’d worn costumes during sex, watched people have sex, and had sex in front of people.”

For a moment, she thought back, perplexed. What could he be talking about? What could she have been talking about?

“Let’s see.” She held up a finger. “The costume question was probably referring to the time my old boyfriend Joe and I—”

“Hold it.” He held up an open palm, his jaw ticking. “I don’t think I should have asked. I don’t want to know. Wait, by old boyfriend, you do mean ex, right? No wait, I really don’t want to know.”

“Relax, he’s an ex, and all we did was make out at a Halloween party. I was dressed like Little Red Riding Hood, and he was the Big Bad Wolf. He kept trying to kiss me with the big fake snout.” She shook her head. It had been very annoying. “That’s got to be what I was thinking of for both answers. Or perhaps I didn’t understand the question, because until a moment ago, I’d never had sex in public.”

She stared at the leaf she spun between her fingers.

“Really?” he asked.

“Or with a stranger, for that matter. And I liked it.” She surveyed him. “I think you’re a bad influence on me.”

He gazed at her for a moment then shook his head in commiseration. “Sadly for you, my little librarian, I intend to continue being a bad influence for some time to come.”

“We’ll see.” She tossed the leaf to the ground and watched it flutter on the breeze.

“Oh? Will we?”

“Yes.”

They turned down the hall that led to her room. Her cheeks flushed when some of the girls looked at her with knowing grins, and others with wide, jealous eyes after glimpsing at the hot man she walked with.

When they reached her room, she turned to face him, her back pressed to the door.

“Okay, so what about watching people have sex?”

“I watched a porno once with my friend Stacy. She brought it over when we were about ten or so. It starred a bored housewife whose husband worked very enthusiastically to please her, but all she did was lie there, eat a banana, and read a romance novel.” She met his gaze. “Perhaps I should have a banana and a romance novel with me next time we see each other, just in case.”

“You won’t need it anymore than you did this morning.” He leaned in, his mouth near hers. “I intend to show you exactly what that man should have done to keep his wife’s attention. You’ll never forget it…never forget me.”

“Oh, I don’t know.” She glanced up at him, a playful smile lifting the corner of her mouth. “What was your name again?”

His lips covered hers, and her hands found their way around his neck. Something feral lived in this man, something the staid part of her craved. A wildness to contrast her more demure nature. One thing was for sure. Her future with this man would be anything but boring.

“Oh, I remember now. David, right?”

He smiled. “To tell the truth, I’m glad I got to be the one to introduce a little kink into your life.”

“Me too. If someone had to corrupt my innocent mind, I’m happy it was you.”

“Innocent mind?” His brow rose. “You are the naughtiest librarian I’ve ever met. That includes my high school librarian, Miss Duran—and she used to make out with students in the Paleontology section of the library.”

Erica laughed. “No! Really? Right there in the library, amongst the shelves? How kinky!”

“Maybe one day I’ll take you in the library. Literally.”

“Mm, that would be very interesting.”

“Wouldn’t it?”

She grabbed the doorknob behind her, knees weak with the thought of doing such a naughty thing. Would she ever have the guts? He would, she knew that much.

He leaned down and pressed a simple kiss to her cheek. When he drew back, she released the knob and gripped his jacket, ready to remove it. He held up a hand to stop her.

“No, you keep it.” He smirked. “That way you have to come back to return it.”

She smiled up at him, then lifted on her toes to kiss his throat and whisper in his ear. “You know I will.”

He grinned and nodded, then turned to walk back the way they’d come. She watched him saunter down the hall back toward the quad. She certainly would see him again.

Soon and often.
