Chapter 7

Skylar buckled Abby into the front seat of his truck. “Don’t you dare get out of this truck?”

“And what if I do?” Abby raised an eyebrow.

“I will chase you. I will catch you.” He caressed her cheek with his calloused fingers. “Just pray it is me and not my bear. He wants you as much as I do. He won’t have any control.” Skylar closed the truck door.

Abby sat there and let his words sink in. Skylar wanted her. His bear wanted her. The knowledge warmed her, but was she willing to take the risk? If he broke her heart this time, she didn’t think she would survive. She shook her head. She knew it would kill her if he rejected her again.

Skylar got into the truck. “At least you’re listening.” He was surprised she
hadn’t run yet.

“For now, but it could change. I haven’t decided, yet.”

“I’ve decided for you.”

Abby snorted. “You are kind of cute when you’re bossy. Too bad bossy
doesn’t work on me. “

“If I have to chase you, I will spank you.”

“You wouldn’t dare!”

“Try me!
I’ve gone fifteen years without you. I am not going another day. You have a beautiful rear, but I will spank it if you try to run from me.”

Abby bit her bottom lip and pressed her legs together. She would never have thought she was into kinky stuff like spankings, but the thought of Skylar spanking her made her body react in ways she thought
weren’t possible. The last fifteen years had been difficult for her. She was human and didn’t go into heat, but she knew when she was ovulating each month, because she was desperate for him. She needed his touch. If anyone else tried touching her, she got physically ill.

“I think you like the idea of me spanking you.” Skylar grinned at her.

“In your dreams.”

“After I spank you, I’m going to lick the sweet cream from your pussy until you’re begging me to take you.”

“I don’t beg. “

“You will beg.”

“You’re delusional if you think I’m begging you for anything.”

“Keep telling yourself that, because your body is telling me a different story. You want me. You need me, just as much as I need you.”

Abby glanced in his direction. Even in the dim light, she could tell he had the steering wheel in a death grip. She fought not to smile. The sexual talk was affecting him as much as it was her.
Two can play this game,
she thought. “How is this going to work with your bear if I’m just human?”

“What thing?”

“The mating thing. I don’t think humans and bears are exactly compatible.”

Skylar started the truck. “You’ve lived with a pack of wolves. The alpha is your father.” He put the truck into reverse. “Why didn’t you tell me you knew about shifters?”

“I was sworn to secrecy. If humans found out about the shifter community, it would be dangerous for the shifters. I love my family and my pack. I won’t let anyone harm them.” She crossed her arms. “I know many wolves who don’t want their mates going through the change. It is dangerous and there is a huge chance the human does not survive. I know wolves go crazy without their mates.”

“It is dangerous for us too, but The Great Mother Bear has intervened and blessed the human mates with bears.” Skylar glanced at Abby. “I pray she will bless us too.”

Abby snorted. “Maybe I don’t want to be a bear.”

Growls filled the cab. “You are my mate. You belong to me and no one else.”

“It’s good to see you’re not one bit possessive.”

Skylar’s eyes flashed silver. “You haven’t seen possessive yet.”

“You do realize, with our luck, the odds are against us. Something will happen like it did before.”

“We need to talk about what happened.”

“Yeah, we do. I just don’t want to get hurt again.”

The scent of her tears filled the cab. Skylar wanted to pull Abby close to him and take away her pain. If he could erase what happened fifteen years ago, he would gladly do so. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw her wipe her face with the back of her hand. “I’m not going to hurt you.”

Abby didn’t say anything. She just nodded her head and stared out the window into the darkness.

Fifteen minutes later, Skylar pulled off the paved road onto a gravel road. A couple of minutes later he turned left and went over a cattle guard.

“Where are we?”

Skylar glanced at Abby. He reached over and gently rubbed her left cheek with the back of his hand. “We’re almost home. You need a warm bath, and I need to check your injuries. As for the rest of the night, we will just have to figure it out as it comes, but you will sleep with me. My bed is where you belong. Tomorrow, we go get you some clothes.”

“I have to go to the job site.”

“It’s too dangerous for you.”

“It’s too dangerous if I don’t go. Structural reinforcement is just one of my specialties. The team is good, and they know what I want, but
I’m the supervisor. I have to be there.”

“You could have been killed this morning when the wall fell on you. It’s too dangerous for you to be in that basement.”

Abby’s mouth hung open as she stared at him. How dare he tell her she couldn’t go to work because her job was too dangerous. “I don’t think you should go back to work at that construction site either.”

“I’m the boss. I run the company.”

“It’s too dangerous. Too many things can happen on construction sites.”

“I’m going to work tomorrow.”

Abby shook her head. “If I can’t go to my job because it’s dangerous, you can’t go to yours either. It’s just as dangerous as mine if not more so.”

Skylar parked the truck. “A construction site is not the place for a woman.”

“Don’t you dare tell me a woman can’t work in a construction site! My dad, an alpha wolf, lost that fight and you will lose it too. I’m a structural engineer and I’m damn good at what I do.” Abby unbuckled the seatbelt, opened the door, and jumped out of the truck faster than Skylar thought a human could move.

By the time he caught up with Abby, she was half way to the gate. “Where do you think you’re going?” he asked as he grabbed her arm to stop her.

“I’m going back to town.” Abby jerked her arm out of his grasp and started walking again.

Mate leaving. I want my mate.
Skylar’s bear growled.

No, she is not.

You made mate mad.

Skylar shook his head. His bear was angry with him. Abby was angry with him.
“Damn, stubborn woman.” Skylar stomped after Abby. “You are not going anywhere except into my bed.”

She heard Skylar coming up behind her again, but she was too mad to care.
He had a lot of nerve telling her she couldn’t work because her job was too dangerous. Who did he think he was? For over ten years, she had work as a structural engineer. Yes, the work could be dangerous, but then any job could be dangerous.
“Stupid men,” grumbled Abby.

“You aren’t going anywhere.” A growl filled the night air.

“What?” Abby saw Skylar’s face for two seconds before her world went upside down and she found herself looking at his rear. “Put me down!”

“I warned you what would happen if you tried running away from me.”

Abby’s eyes widened. “You wouldn’t dare.”

Skylar’s hand came down hard on Abby’s rear.

Abby yelped. She couldn’t believe he had really spanked her. It startled her rather than hurt. Skylar’s hand rested on her rear. She felt the warmth through her denim jeans.

His hand moved away, only to come down hard on her rear again.

Abby jerked. This time the swat stung. “Put me down.”

“You are going to learn to do what I tell you to do.”

“I’m not a child you can boss around.”

The third swat came without warning.

Abby moaned. She felt herself growing wet. She never thought a spanking would turn her on, but the spanking Skylar was giving her was doing just that. “Put me down.”

Skylar answered her with another swat to her rear. He knew he
wasn’t hurting her. Her moan and the scent of her arousal told him she was anything but hurt. He smiled as he unlocked the door and went inside his house. Skylar didn’t bother turning on any lights. His night vision was excellent. He went down a hall, stopping only long enough to push open his bedroom door.

Three large steps into the room and Abby found herself flying through the air like a rag doll. She landed in the middle of a huge soft bed. She stared at Skylar in disbelief. “You could have hurt yourself. I’m not a skinny model.”

“There’s nothing small about me either.” He pulled his t-shirt over his head. “You have beautiful curves in all the right places.”

“You’re not so bad looking yourself.” Abby licked her lips as she took in the sight of Skylar’s body. Memories of his kisses swept over her. They had always been gentle, but with a promise of more. She wanted the more, now.

“You have on too many clothes.” Skylar’s eyes turned silvery. He looked like he was ready to hunt, and Abby knew she was the prey, but it didn’t scare her. It excited her. “I like my clothes where they are.”

“If I take them off, they will be destroyed. And baby, they are coming off.”

“Promises. Promises.” Abby shook her head.

“This is your last warning.” Her teasing was not helping his control. He moved to one side of the bed.

Abby quickly rolled to the other side of the bed. Her feet hit the floor and she spun around to face him. “Not so fast. We’re going to get a few things straight.”

Skylar growled at her.

Abby knew her sanity was gone, because the growl excited her instead of scaring her to death. She slowly pulled her shirt out of her jeans. “First, I will keep my job as a structural engineer.”

“No!”

“It’s not up for debate. I keep my job and I keep running my company.” She grinned at him. “You could always quit your job and work for me.”

“We will talk about it. Get your clothes off.”

It wasn’t exactly the answer she wanted, but at least he was willing to talk about it.  “Now about—”

Skylar lunged for her and caught the tail of her shirt as she spun away. The material ripped. He used the shreds to pull her towards him.  Abby tripped and fell backwards. Skylar caught her and pulled her against his chest.

His warmth seeped into her body. The smell of chocolate and coffee surrounded her.  Skylar wrapped his hand in her bobbed hair and forced her to tilt her head slightly backwards. His lips captured hers. He gently teased her with the kiss, coaxing her lips apart.

Abby moaned, but she resisted the gentle caresses of his lips. She wanted him, but something deep inside her told her he needed to show her how much he wanted her. He had to prove he was the alpha male for her.

Skylar’s hand slid down her neck and spine until he came to the closure of her bra. In seconds, he had the claps undone. With his other hand, he pushed the bra aside, freeing her large breasts.

Abby scrapped her fingernails against his skin as she slid her hands up his chest. She wrapped her arms around his neck.

Skylar’s hand moved to her breasts. He lifted a generous orb in each hand, gently kneading. His thumbs slowly teased the nipples causing Abby to moan against his lips. He broke the kiss and bent down, taking one nipple in his mouth and then the other.

Pleasure shot through Abby.  “Don’t stop. Please, don’t stop.”

“We’ve just started.” Skylar’s tongue flicked the dusty rose nipple. “I love how your gorgeous breasts spill over my hands.” He pinched both nipples causing her to moan and arch toward him.

The needy ache she had felt since seeing Skylar roared into to life. Her pussy quivered with need and anticipation.

Skylar let go of her breasts and pulled her tight against him. He captured her lips, but the kiss wasn’t gentle. Years of pent up need took over. He felt like he was finally getting a drink of water after years in the desert.

Abby felt his desire and need not only in his kiss, but also in the cock pressing into her belly. She needed him inside her.

Skylar broke the kiss. Both were panting.

Abby stepped back. In seconds her jeans and panties in a pile at her feet. She shook with desire and need. She shook with fear he would be repulsed by her plus size body.

Skylar stared at her.

Abby blushed and looked away from Skylar. She heard him growl. Tears filled her eyes and threatened to fall. She picked up her jeans and held them in front of her, attempting to hide her body from his scrutiny. Old feelings of disgust and shame crept through her. She was smart, but that
didn’t matter. She didn’t have the right body. She wasn’t thin and petite, she was huge, not what men wanted in their beds. “I’m sorry,” she whispered as she looked around for her shirt.

Why mate sad? Mate is beautiful.

Skylar agreed with his bear. Abby was beautiful, but she did not see that, and deep down, he knew part of that was his fault because of what happened fifteen years ago. He watched Abby gather her clothes. She was going to leave. He couldn’t let her do that. He could lose her again.
