Agent M: Testament (The Agent M Series Book 2) (63 page)

“We're coming back to you live from the White House,” the reported stated.

He had an impressive presence and voice that commanded authority whenever he spoke.

“We've gotten word that the investigation is still continuing as to the incidents that transpired here just two days ago. Local law enforcement have been unable to comment on these events as of yet but when they do, we'll be sure to report it live on the spot as our live coverage continues.”

The reporter stepped to the side and began pointing out areas of interest as the camera panned forward and zoomed in through the iron gates to get a better look.

“As you can see there has been some extensive damage to the exterior of the West Wing. We are unable to confirm any damage to the interior as the entire building has been temporarily sealed off as the investigation continues.”

The camera shifted its focus and moved towards the west colonnade and zoomed in on the roof where a giant black tarp was wrapped around the entire vicinity.

“Looking over where the battle had taken place we are still unclear as to the particular details but the area has been completely sealed by the FBI. However, it was confirmed as of yesterday that one of their own agents was involved in the battle. Special Agent Michael Madison had been spotted on the roof battling a presently unknown assailant on top of the White House as the President of the United States watched. If you had witness the graphic footage caught by locals on the scene, the unknown assailant was killed at the hands of the Special Agent.”

The reporter stopped for a moment. Nicole thought it was odd hearing them calling Michael by his former title but perhaps this was all part of a clever cover to ensure that this was handled by trained government professionals and not the work of a lofty but skilled renegade. Either way, this was the best course of action for the FBI to save face amidst this disaster.

“I'm being told we have a special update, we're going back to the newsroom to check in with our anchors for an exclusive update. Back to you Heather and Victor.”

The scene changed to that of the local newsroom where two well-dressed individuals are seated behind a large glass desk. Heather O'Conner and Victor Richards were two of D.C.'s finest reporters and they had dedicated themselves to this coverage almost as much as Nicole.

“Thanks Mitch,” Heather replied. “We've just received an exclusive update on the investigation. Special Agent Michael Madison who was involved in the events that transpired was taken from the scene in critical condition and we're being told that he has been out of surgery for a few hours now and has been declared stable for the time being. No words on the extent of those injuries as of yet but we will be sure to update as news trickles in.”

“You bet we will,” Victor states as the camera points towards him. “The battle at the White House has got the entire world tuning in as footage of the event has collectively received over two billion views in just under forty-eight hours. YouTube and LikeLeak servers have been working overtime to keep the sites up and running as the hits keep coming. But if you're still having issues viewing the footage, stay tuned because at the top of the hour we are bringing in a video expert to analyze the recordings frame by frame and you can see that exclusive story right here on channel –”

Nicole turned the television off. She tossed the remote aside. Her heart was still in poor condition but for the first time in a long while it felt at ease. All of the legal documents she requested had already been filled out. The last will and testament was signed and she made sure to give everyone what they needed. Just because she was no longer going to be on this earth doesn't mean anyone in her life should have to suffer in her absence. Nicole wanted a clean slate before she went and that meant giving certain people the specific information to move forward. She only hoped that they would be wise with the gifts they were about to receive because Nicole Wells would no longer be around to offer her wisdom or guidance.

On the table before her sat a legal pad and a single white envelope. A black pen had been resting on her lap for quite some time but now that she got the information she was looking for, it motivated her to do the one thing she had feared for years. This would not be a simple task but it was one that had to be done. The circumstances have changed and this was the last thing she could do to make things right.

Nicole began to pen her final words to the last man she had ever loved. Tears started fill in the corners her eyes blurring the page before her but she pressed on. The opening remark of her message would be sure to shock him but he needed to know the truth. This wasn't just a confession. It may even save his life.

“Dear Michael,” her note began. “I wanted you tell you this a long time ago but I could never find the time or place appropriate to do so. Given the circumstances, this was the best I could do. The first thing you need to know is that my name is not Nicole Wells and I am not your mother.”
