Epilogue

Basking in the afterglow of sex, make that lovemaking because adding emotions to the act made it transcend anything as basic as sex, Aramus wanted to ignore the repeated buzzes of people trying to get his attention. For once, he intended to ignore duty and act selfishly. Unless the ship was on fire or they were under direct attack, the distractions could wait. He was doing well too at his first bout of selfishness and had almost fallen asleep, with Riley atop him, when the door to his room slid open.

What the fuck? No one should have been able to override his lockdown request. No one but—

“Seth!” He growled the name, happy, and yet not, to see the irritating cyborg step into his room. “Where the fuck did you crawl out of?”

“I was a passenger on the ship you just acquired. I take it you didn’t read the
captain’s log. I was enjoying a lovely, restorative nap in one of their stasis capsules, not entirely by choice, when MJ woke me. He told me you were busy getting your rocks off with a human. I assumed he was delirious, but when repeated slaps to his head to jolt his synapses didn’t change his story, I had to come see for myself.”

The lost cyborg hadn’t changed at all. Just as irritating as ever.
“Go away.”

“But you haven’t even introduced us yet.”
Seth waggled his brows at Riley, who bit her lip, probably so she wouldn’t giggle. It wasn’t hard to see the mirth in her eyes.

However, Aramus wasn’t in the mood to share her yet, especially given the only thing she wore was a thin sheet.
“Who she is, is none of your business.”

Aw, come on, Aramus. Don’t be like that. Aren’t you just the teensiest, tiniest bit glad to see me?”

Yes, but he’d never admit it.
“Not really. It was a lot more quiet and peaceful with you gone.”

Funny. I would have said the same thing myself.” The new voice took them all by surprise. A strange woman crowded into Aramus’s room, a statuesque blonde whose gaze alit with interest on Riley. “If it isn’t the forensic doctor. I’ve got questions for you.”

“And I have a question too. Just who the fuck are you
, lady, and what do you want?”

Seth beamed, looking entirely too pleased with himself.
“I think introductions are in order. Aramus, and hot-looking naked girl in his bed, I’d like you to meet Anastasia. My wife.”

“Ex.”

“Now, darling, you know I don’t believe in divorce.”

“And I’m fine with becoming a widow.”
With those words, Anastasia, in a blur of movement, took Seth to the floor and held a gun to his head. Holy shit. Aramus never thought he’d see the day when someone could best their wiliest fighter.

Only an insane cyborg like Seth would grin and say,
“Isn’t she wonderful?”

What was wonderful was Riley’s laughter.
My woman.
The one human capable of teaching him that love wasn’t always a weakness. And, if anyone dared to say otherwise, he had an iron fist to help adjust their thinking. He did have a reputation to maintain after all.
