At His Pleasure: Addie Learns the Ropes (16 page)

Pretty soon, even though I could still feel the boat moving underneath me, I finally fell asleep.

* * * *

I froze the second I woke up.

Oh yeah. This isn’t my room.

There was only the tiniest bit of light shining in through the shade—it had to be the very early morning. The good girl inside of me whispered that I should get up and start doing chores—unpacking, breakfast, cleaning.

The bad girl inside of me…well. She wanted to stay here, in this warm bed, with…
oh.

I was cuddled up against Mrs. Edgar, my head leaning against her shoulder. Sometime in the night I must have rolled over to her side of the bed. Oh, she was so warm, radiating heat and the scent of lavender. My nose nuzzled into her neck, her soft blonde hair: the faint scent of fresh soap clung to her smooth, silken skin.

It had been a long time since I’d been this close to anyone. Since I shared a bed with a man…or a woman.

The good girl felt a stab of guilt: was I taking advantage of her, looking at her while she was asleep, so vulnerable?

The bad girl. Now, the bad girl felt something else entirely. Something forbidden. Something that jolted me into being wide awake.

The comforter had slipped down past her waist during the night. There was no denying how utterly beautiful she was, with her long dark lashes and her tanned golden skin. With my head tucked against her pillow, I could see down the rise of her breasts, even the faint pucker of her nipples under her gown.

My eyes wandered down to her slim waist, to where the nightgown ended: lacy pink panties, with a few soft blonde curls peeking out. I could feel a strange, unfamiliar hotness burning in me.  Whether it was arousal or shame or both, I couldn’t tell. All I knew was that I hadn’t been so close to a man or woman this intoxicating for a long time.

I curled in closer to her, the warmth inside me instinctively drawn to her inviting curves. I gave in to the most sudden urge to slide my hand down her body, to just run my fingertips over those delicate little curls, to barely touch the shape of her mound.

What was I thinking? I was drawn to her like a moth to a flame, but I knew what I was thinking was wrong. Totally wrong. I held myself back, even though I could feel every cell in my body screaming against it. Instead I slid my arm over her waist, and snuggled in deeper against her.

She stirred under my touch. I froze.
Oh no. What did I just do?

But instead of waking up or pushing me away, she did something unexpected.

She slipped her hand over mine, pulling me even closer to her.

I relaxed instantly. Everything felt natural, like it was supposed to be this way. I tried to push those strange thoughts away, those weird feelings coiling in my stomach. Instead, I nuzzled her neck, feeling the light tickle of the fine hairs on her skin.

At this, she opened her eyes slowly, like a lazy kitty. As she turned her head, her hazy blue eyes studied me, and she smiled dreamily like I was exactly what she was hoping to see.

She leaned in close and touched the tip of her nose to mine, and then—then she kissed me. It was a sweet, soft kiss. I could only melt, with her silken pink lips pressed against mine.

At that moment it was everything my traitorous body wanted, her tender moist mouth on me. And then it wanted more: to know if her body was as soft as her lips, if her hidden lower lips were now as wet as mine now were.

You’re being crazy
, I told myself. I never dreamed this could happen.

Yet, as if she wanted to remove all doubt, she rolled onto her side so her body was pressed against mine, and kissed me harder, wrapping her hands in my hair and pushing her hips against me, as if she knew what I was thinking and wanted the same thing.

And then…then she let me go.

“Hey,” she whispered, her voice husky with sleep, and maybe…was it desire? “You okay?”

Yes,
I wanted to say.
Yes, and I want…

“Yeah,” I managed to get out. “Everything’s fine.”

She looked at me for a few seconds, as if she was trying to figure out if I was telling the truth. Then she kissed the corner of my mouth, sweetly.

That was when I heard the cabin door creak open.

Mr. Edgar stood there.
