Epilogue

“And you’re sure this report is correct?”

“Yes, sir. I checked it out myself.”

He scratched his chin still looking at the piece of paper, seeing but not believing. So many things would change now. The implications of this incident would ripple through history for a very, very long time. Lives would be changed forever.

“What else do we know?”

“Nothing, sir. All we know is that the stone has been destroyed, and along with it, Abraham, Tom, and the cell that was working in that area.”

“And our book?”

“We’re hunting for it now. We’ll find it.”

He interlaced his fingers behind his head and stretched, arching his back. Abraham’s last message to him was that they had discovered a “bump” in the road but could deal with it. He had also mentioned the finding of the first book, a book that would be worth ten times its weight in gold if recovered.

“Sir, your orders?”

He looked across his large desk in his even larger office. “We need to find both books at all costs. Do whatever it takes to recover them and find whoever is responsible for the incident in Wakan Canyon.”

His sharply dressed assistant nodded and turned for the door. Hand on the knob, he hesitated and turned back to face his employer. “And when we find whoever did this?”

The man behind the desk waved dismissively with his right hand. “Interrogate them to find out what they know. Then we have no use for them.”

“Understood, sir.” His assistant left the room and closed the door, leaving John Lloyd Stanton, the President of the United States, alone with his own dark thoughts.

I’ll find our book and the one that Abraham mentioned before his death. Then there will be no limit to how high the family can reach. The United States is just the beginning.
