Bad Moon Rising (Blackthorn Wolves) (4 page)

Chapter Eight

––––––––

T
ommy rose from the bed and padded across the room
to get his clothes.  It was nearly full night now.  The three of them spent the
entire day fucking and eating and fucking some more.

As he dressed, he watched Anisa and John sleep.  The
sheriff had an arm flung over her back, and her foot was hooked around his.
He’d been on the other side of her; she’d had her head on Tommy’s chest.  It
was warm and secure in the bed; he’d been happy for the last twelve hours but
it wasn’t the place for him.  It was time for him to go home.  Garrick needed
him.  Anisa now had John.

He left the bedroom, went into the kitchen and
snagged the last piece of steak left out on the counter from their earlier
supper.  As he chowed down, he pulled on his boots and grabbed his jacket.

He thought to leave Anisa a note, but she’d know why
he had to go.  What words could he write anyway, that would make a difference
to her?  Bye, call you, just seemed too lame.  Besides that, he wasn’t going to
call.  And he wasn’t one for lying.

Before he reached the door, he heard a soft noise
behind him.  He turned to see John shuffling into the kitchen, with only a pair
of briefs on.

“You’re sneaking out.”

Tommy nodded. “Yeah, she’s used to it by now. I’m a
coward when it comes to her.”

“Yeah, I’m starting to understand that.” John
laughed, rubbing a hand over his hard face.

“Be good to her.”

“I will. I’m afraid of what she’d do to me, if I
weren’t.”  He stepped forward and offered his hand. “Tell Garrick he has a
friend here.”

Tommy shook the sheriff’s hand.  “Count on it.”

He went out the front door, and started for his
truck.  He didn’t need light to see where he was going but the moon provided it
for him anyway.  She was gorgeous tonight. Full bodied and enchanting.  His
whole body shook with the urge to shift and run.  But he suppressed it.  He’d
maybe pull off on the side of the road later on and run for her.

He reached for the door, and then paused. “You’re
pretty good at sneaking up on people.”

Anisa stepped out of the dark and into a swath of
moonlight.  “Going for an ice cream run I hope.”

“You know I hate ice cream.”

She didn’t smile.  He could feel her anger wafting
off her body.  He could scent it in the air.  “I saw you drink the tea.”

He snickered.  “You saw only what you wanted to.  I
didn’t swallow.” “The binding spell didn’t work.”

“Not on me, it didn’t.”

He moved toward her, gathering her in his arms.  He
cupped her face in his hands and kissed her long and hard.  When he was done,
he stepped back.

“I know how well you play the game, Anisa.  I never
underestimate you.  That’s why you’ll always be my most favorite person to play
with.”

“Will I see you again?”

John crept out from the shadows to stand behind
her.  He set his hand on her shoulder. A sign of comfort, a sign of support.

Tommy looked up at the moon, reveling in her call.
“When the next bad moon rises, give me a call.”

With that, he opened his door, jumped in and drove
away.
