Rachel blinked at the
computer monitor, the lines of text slowly blurring together from
the long hours of hammering together the lengthy report starting to
turn her mind into a gray sort of slush. It was her first week on
the job, though, and her first important project. It had been given
with high expectations, with a deadline in the morning, and so
she
’d stuck around far after everyone else
had already gathered up their gear and wandered home, plucking away
at her keyboard in hopes of getting everything finalized and making
a good impression. She needed this job, and a glowing review on her
first big assignment would go far to keeping her employed and
putting her foot onto the rungs of the corporate ladder.
Which was why she swore
loudly when the computer screen blipped to blue a few moments
later, a single repeating note blaring out of the box at her feet.
Her eyes went wide in blind panic, and she scrambled to reboot the
computer in hopes that her work was still there, safely tucked away
in a backup somewhere.
“
Come on,” she whispered,
urging the computer to boot faster, nudging it with one shoe,
sending every bit of good-will she could muster towards the device.
It turned back on with agonizing slowness and logged back into the
company network. Her fingers flew across the keyboard, heart
pounding with growing trepidation. “Please, oh please, oh
please.”
She opened the document. It
was empty.
“
Shit,” she snarled, batting
a stack of spiral-bound notebooks off onto the floor. Icy panic
sluiced down into her stomach, and she shook as she stared at the
blank document. Hours of work undone, with the deadline the next
morning. This wasn’t just an important assignment, though. She’d
been trusted to get the report to her superiors on time for a
meeting at the start of business with a new client - one that the
business was keen on securing. No report, no client. Her fingers
twitched as she stared at the screen, mind too numb to think. She
was going to be fired. There was no way about it. She’d botched the
task they’d given her to prove herself, to help secure an important
client for the company. There was no way they’d keep her now. Hot
tears seared at her eyes as she sat, shoulders slumped.
“
Rachel?” The voice wafted
around from the door of the small office she shared during the day.
Rachel quickly blotted her eyes and glanced up. Her direct boss,
Henry, hovered in the entry, frowning with concern down at her. Her
heart sank. She didn’t have even a little bit of time before her
mistake was found. For a moment, she considered sprinting past him
and out into the parking lot to her car, but fought the urges down.
She’d have to face the consequences at some point - it might as
well be now. “I thought I heard you. What’s wrong? You don’t look
so good.”
“
That report I was working
on?” she said slowly, hating the way her voice quavered. Henry just
nodded, sliding into the room and closing the door behind her. The
blinds were closed, though the office lights had long been dimmed
once the normal shift had ended, leaving the room in perpetual
twilight, broken only by the gleam from the empty document on her
computer monitor. She gestured at it in impotent futility. “The
computer crashed. I lost it all.”
“
Okay,” Henry said, nodding.
“So, pull it from the backup store.”
Rachel blinked. Hope
flickered and kindled within her. She dared to smile a little up at
her boss, who had been fairly nice and friendly towards her the
last five days she’d been there.
“
Backup store?” she said, a
small laugh escaping her. She blew out a relieved breath and slid
down into her chair, spinning a bit from side to side. A feeling of
giddy lightheadedness flitted through her. That had been close!
“Oh, thank God. I was worried for a moment, you know? I’ve been
here, working hard, trying to make sure I had this all ready for
tomorrow. How do I get it back?”
Henry’s jovial smile faded.
“You don’t know? You should know if you followed the setup guide,
Rachel. It was in your intro packet. You should have set up your
backup store your first day.”
Rachel froze, the foot that
had been swinging her around in the swivel chair suddenly going
numb, her fingers twitching involuntarily. She’d skimmed through
the packet, but it had been full of standard stuff about breaks and
sick days. There had been information about setting up her backup
stuff? The sickly icy feeling in her stomach returned with
reinforcements, and Rachel doubled over with a low, weak
moan.
“
No,” she said faintly.
“I... I must not have done that yet.”
“
Rachel,” Henry said
sternly, sliding a bit closer. His tall form loomed over her,
powerful and handsome in his powder-blue shirt and navy jacket with
a dark tie. He almost looked like a fashion model more than middle
management, and Rachel slowly stared up at him, trying not to let
the tears spring back into her eyes. How could she have been so
stupid? It was a new job - you didn’t just skip reading everything
they handed you! She berated herself in silence, though it wouldn’t
help any now. The document was long gone. Withering resignation
settled into her, and she sighed, head drooping down to her
medium-sized chest.
“
If you didn’t set it up,
your document is gone,” Henry continued, squatting down onto his
haunches until his eyes were level with hers. She made herself meet
his iron gaze, deep brown eyes boring into her. There wasn’t any
heat in his face, just stern reproach and... she blinked. Something
more. Something like... desire. Her eyes searched his handsome and
chiseled features, wondering how she could be thinking about how
attractive he was when her job was on the line.
Here I am, about to be fired, and I’m admiring his
eyes,
she thought, but couldn’t pull her
gaze free. He stared at her, quietly considering, thoughts
churning. She wondered what he was thinking, what he was mulling
over.
“
I have to report it up the
chain,” Henry said quietly. He placed a hand on the back of her
chair, his fingers brushing her blouse. She could feel his heat
through the thin garment, and suddenly found her heart thumping in
a way that had nothing to do with worry and fear. At another time,
she’d have been flattered at the touch, at the piercing gaze locked
onto her eyes, but even still, in the back of her mind, she still
heard a wailing voice that prepared to be fired right then in
there.
“
I know,” Rachel said. Her
chin quivered as she tried to keep from completely breaking down,
not quite managing to meet Henry’s face. “Will I be let go?”
“Probably,” Henry said in a neutral tone. “Without someone going to
bat for you, you’re probably sunk, Rachel. You didn’t follow
company protocol and lost all your work. There isn’t much to be
done here.”
Rachel’s eyes slowly lifted.
He was entirely monotone, but there was a catch in his voice, a
small opening in his words that gave her the smallest bit of hope.
Rachel’s hands writhed in her lap with untamed nervousness as she
searched Henry’s face.
“
Someone to go to bat for
me?” she said hesitantly. She licked her suddenly dry lips. “You
could, right? Explain that I hadn’t set up my backup, that it’s my
first week, and ask them for another chance.”
“
I could,” Henry said,
nodding. He slid closer, loafers shuffling on the carpet, looming
over her as she shifted slightly on the chair. She could smell his
cologne this close, and feel the presence of his personality as he
loomed over her, close enough that she imagined she could feel the
heat of his body pressing into her. Her head tilted back, regarding
him with a dim flicker of hope.
His hands moved, pausing for
a brief moment on his belt buckle. Rachel had just a brief moment
to register the moment, to frown in a sudden haze of confusion as
they twitched and undid his pants, peeling back the fabric. His
cock appeared, hardening as his hand stroked along its length,
growing even as his hips shifted, pressing the tip close to her
mouth. Rachel gasped, shock sending a shuddering ripple through her
as her boss pressed his manhood close.
“
As long as you do
everything
I say, Rachel.”
His hand worked along his shaft, slow and hypnotic as he smiled
gently down at her. “And I do mean everything. You give me
everything I want, and I think you can dodge a bullet on
this.”
Rachel kicked across the
floor, rolling her chair until it bounced hard against the desk,
her eyes widening. She’d never seen even a hint of such
aggressiveness lurking beneath Henry’s surface, but suddenly she
was confronted by his cock, one hand giving it gentle tugs as he
regarded her. She couldn’t take her eyes off of it, and all her
fear of the destroyed file vanished in a static of shock and
disbelief. What in the hell was going on here?
“
Henry!” she hissed,
glancing around to see if anyone else was close, but the blinds
were still drawn closed. Her heart thumped heavy, and her hands
trembled as she tried to register the situation. Would he try to
force himself on her? She stared at the door for a moment,
contemplating once more running for her car, but held off. The
report. If she ran, there was no way she could keep her job. She
had no idea what had gotten into Henry, but maybe she could talk
some sense into him and set things right.
“
It’s simple, Rachel,” Henry
said, hand tugging his manhood. He gave her a grin, and she had to
admit that he
was
attractive, even if he was her boss. “You do exactly what I
say, and I’ll sweep this under the rug. If you don’t... well... who
knows what might happen.”
“
But... that’s
blackmail!”
“
Your choice entirely,”
Henry said, giving one shoulder a flick of a shrug. “You can walk
out the door right now if you’d like, of course.”
Rachel rose on wavering legs and strode to the door, her skirt
swishing as she tried to keep from breaking into a full on
scramble. One trembling hand reached for the doorknob.
“
Of course,” Henry said, and
she paused. “If you leave, I’ll make my report, and you’ll be out
first thing in the morning.” Henry took another step forward and
gave her a sultry smile. “Your choice, Rachel.”
Rachel spun, deliberately
not looking down at his crotch, forcing herself to meet his eyes.
She needed the job desperately. It was the stepping stone to
everything she wanted in life. She stared at Henry, and blinked in
surprise as she realized she was actually considering his
offer.
What the hell is wrong with
me?
she thought, her mouth growing sandy
and dry. Did she need the job that bad? Was she really willing to
give in to Henry just to keep it?
She let her eyes wander his tailored form. He was quite easy on the
eyes, she had to admit, and the hardness that he stroked certainly
was impressive. It had been a while since she’d taken a man to bed,
having been so focused on schooling and her career. Would it really
hurt to get a little action? Wouldn’t it even be fun? If
Henry had approached her and asked her out, wouldn’t she have even
said yes?
Maybe
, she thought to herself, but that would have been her choice.
This was different. Henry had given her a choice certainly, but...
She swallowed hard, and gave a terse nod. She needed the
job.
“
Good decision,” Henry said,
corners of his mouth tugging up into a wide grin. “Now, take off
that blouse. Let’s see what we’ve got to work with.”
Rachel shivered at the cold,
matter-of-fact nature of his voice, but let her hands slide up to
the top button of her mauve blouse. With trembling fingers, she
undid them, until finally she let the garment tumble from numb
fingers to the floor. She stood before him, arms crossed across a
muscled stomach, modest chest cupped snugly in her white and
lace-trimmed bra. Henry said nothing, just soaking in her form and
waiting for what was expected of her. She sucked in a deep and
steady breath, then reached behind her. Dumb fingers found the
clasp, but a moment later her breasts sprang free as the bra
fluttered away.
