She shifted, trying to take him in but it was starting to hurt. "Ach! Shawn ... oh m'god ... it's hurting ...Shawn you're hurting me - oh!" She gasped with every entry and struggled to hang on until he too came, fully aware that he was beyond stopping. His body was a machine locked into position, a hump in his back and a pounding pelvis he could no longer control. Then suddenly it happened, he threw his head back and shouted, "Fuck! Oh fuckin' hell! Ohhh yeah! Yeah! Oh yeah!" His gruff climax, seeing it, hearing it, was worth whatever pain Sylvia had to endure. She was enraptured seeing the pleasure she brought him as he held himself deep inside her as the last of him was spent.

Collapsing beside her, he lay panting, trying to catch his breath. "Wow...holy crap...that was good." His head turned on the pillow to look at her. "Do you agree?" Sylvia smiled. "Oh yeah, I agree...you and Otis…y’all the bomb, baby!"

Shawn's head dug back into his pillow as he laughed deep and long. Sylvia joined him.

Understanding her limitations, Shawn backed off of the "all night" declaration and only made love to her once more that night, driving her insane, taking her to the brink of blissfulness where her cries heightened his sense of pride. When they finally made it back to her mother’s, they together informed her of their plans to marry. He stayed long enough to help her mom get more of the basement done; the bathroom, two bedrooms, and the walls up and finished in the rest of the open space. There was still a lot more to do, but he’d run out of time. Before he left, he made sure they understood how to carry on without him.

The SUV was running, his bag was inside, and he and Sylvia stood downstairs in the vestibule saying their goodbyes for now. Sylvia wanted to stay a little longer with her mother. She was going to hire contractors to finish the rest of the basement, installing the kitchen, cabinets and other desires her mother chose. He was holding her in his arms, her arms around him with her head nestled under his chin.

“I’m gonna miss you,” he promised softly.

“I’m gonna miss you,” she returned with tears in her eyes.

“Now let me make sure of this before I leave here, that I have this right. Let me see. You love me, right?” She nodded her head vigorously against his chest, then sniffed.

“Annnnnd, no more doubts, right?” Again he got the vigorous nod, and another sniffle. “And last, I asked you to marry me, and you said…?” he trailed that off for her to answer.

She sniffed, leaned her head back to look up at him, and gave him the word he most wanted to hear.

“Yes.”

With both hands, he reached up to cup her cheeks, his thumbs wiping at the streaming tears.

“Good answer,” he whispered lowering his mouth to hers.

Chapter 25

"I think we should talk about this first. I can't imagine what has come over you, but you need to just...just slow down and consider how absurd this is," Oscar tried to reason with his daughter, after hearing through the domestic help grapevine that she was having them go through her things to start sorting them for packing.

"Absurd to you, perhaps, but I've a need for a change. I've also sat under your thumb long enough. I need to find a way to undo the mistake I've made," Deidre replied as she searched the area of Wisconsin on the internet, doing research of the area where Shawn now resided. Checking into the real estate, job opportunities, schools,
etc.

"Mistake? Which one? I've helped you to undo it, don't tell me you plan on doing it again?" Oscar asked. Deidre ignored his question and continued her reading, searching and clicking.

"Do me a favor, come away from that for now and let's talk."

"I'm not interested, father. I know what you have to say concerning Shawn."

"Where has this come from all of a sudden, I thought you were over that? Over him?"

"I loved him! I really loved him! The biggest mistake of my life was letting you and mother manipulate me into leaving my husband, divorcing him. He didn't have a chance against the mighty Wherringtons! No matter what you say he did...I haven't been happy since the divorce. Since he packed up and left California. Not only that, Angela wants to be with her father and she should be," Deidre argued as her father stood beside her trying to think fast and reach a conclusion.

"You say you haven't been happy since the divorce, have you forgotten that you weren't happy with him either?"

"You're wasting your time, father... Angela and I are going to relocate closer to him in Wisconsin. You might as well know that it will be as soon as possible."

"I don't understand! Would you stop that clicking, please, and let's discuss this?"

"No! I won't! Why can't you leave me alone? This is my life...I have every right to live it as I choose! I'm not going to let you interfere in it anymore. I've made up my mind!"

"Before your mind is made up, Deidre, you need to have all the facts on him first," her father reasoned.

"I know all there is to know about Shawn Everett McPherson...there's nothing else for me to know!"

"You think the reason I don't want you with him is because of what he does for a living? If he were indeed just a country-hick cover artist...I might be able to adjust to him...but, Deidre, he's not...he's the very scum of the earth—"

"Stop right there! You've said enough!"

"No, I haven't! Maybe if I had disclosed everything about him when you two split up—"

"When you split us up, you mean!" she charged, cutting him off.

"And with good reason! He's not for you! He's a white-trash redneck and I can prove it!"

"Have you heard nothing I said? I don't want to hear anything you have to say about Shawn! Nothing!"

"Give me a chance, Deidre...come and see what I have."

"I've seen all you have on him—"

"No...you haven't. I kept some things back, just in case more was needed to convince you that you and your child were better off here at home, to let him go into the life he's best suited for."

"What are you talking about now?"

"Follow me," he offered and walked to the door, holding it open, looking back at her as she sat at her computer desk in the library of their estate home. Deidre sat staring, afraid to budge. All she could think about was the things Angela told her. She wasn't stupid, she knew that Shawn dated. He was much too attractive not to garner the attention of women. However, if he dated, he'd never before mentioned the women to their daughter. Suddenly he was now talking about someone…Sylvia. Angela had said that he was serious about her. That he chatted with her and called her almost every night that she was there with him. Angela had listened in on some of the conversations her father had with Sylvia. She said that he'd smiled the whole time they'd talked, laughed, flirted and acted in a way she'd never seen him act before. Deidre sat with her heart pounding. She wondered,
are you in love with this Sylvia?

"Deidre?" her father called her to attention once again. "Trust me, this is…something you will want to know about. Just listen and give it a look."

"Why do I feel as though I'm going to regret it if I do?"

"You will regret it more if you don't."

Unable to win the battle with her curiosity, Deidre stood and followed her father out of the library and down to his study office. There he invited her to take a seat as he went to his safe and removed a black cardboard box.

"What is that?" she asked.

"Patience, you will see in a moment. I know you think my prejudices against him are unfounded, but in a moment, you'll know it all."

"Why can't you just tell me?"

"I will tell you, and back it up as well."

"So...is it your plan to shock me back to my senses?"

"Shock? Hmmm, I found it shocking…appalling as well. Will you find it shocking? I would sure hope so, because if this doesn't turn you off of him, nothing will."

"Then chances are...nothing will."

"We'll see," he returned, walking over to the entertainment cabinet, swinging the doors wide to expose the television and DVD player inside. Clicking them on, Deidre's heart skipped a beat. "What is this?" she repeated the question, growing nervous and afraid, wishing she had not followed him to hear what it was he had against her ex-husband.

"This, my dear, is a film...it's part of a set—six all together - who knows, there may be more. My hope is that it will only take one to get the message across," he informed her, setting it on the open drawer, giving it a bit of a shove, it retracted, remote in hand, he clicked play .

Fifteen minutes later, Deidre sat with her chest burning and her head spinning. "Turn it off!"

"You sure...there's more…it gets better—"

"I said turn it off!"

He clicked the stop on the remote. "Now...do you understand? I tried to spare you this, would have never shown you his previous profession had you not made this sudden insane about-face concerning the two of you. You can consider yourself—"

"How did you know? Where did you find them?" she cut him off to ask, glaring at him angrily.

"The first day he walked through these doors with you, I had him investigated. You up and got yourself pregnant by him, and then married him behind our backs before I could stop you. You gave me no time to put a stop to it."

"With good reason!"

"Lower your voice."

Deidre dropped her head into her hands feeling utterly gutted by what she'd seen. As ugly as it was, she still wanted him, still loved him. She sat up and looked her father in the eyes. "I don't care. As you must have noticed, he was very young then, before I knew him, we didn't even know each other," she defended him, because she simply couldn't help herself.

Oscar was instantly angry. "Surely you're above this! Look at him! Do you need me to restart it!? That's all someone with his looks and endowments are good for! The lead prick in a porn movie!"

Deidre shot to her feet. "That’s enough!"

"No, it's not enough! Don't tell me that you're willing to forgive this? Heaven forbid, don't tell me that you're so shallow as to be hung up on him because he has a big cock!"

"How dare you—I'm your daughter! How could you say that to me?"

"How could you—my daughter—lower herself to being nothing more than a common cock chaser!"

She turned to storm from the room, when he called out to her, "Leave it go, Deidre! Leave it go! You're divorced—it's over...that's the way I expect it to stay!"

She turned in the doorway before exiting. "If I don't? If I still choose to go back to him, then what?"

"Go back to him? Have some pride, girl! Even he, the lowlife that he is, has too much pride to take you back after what you did to him."

"I could talk to him, tell him how sorry I am. Even admit that I was wrong, for letting you and mother come between us."

"Don't you dare."

"I love him."

"Deidre…were I you, I'd forget all about Shawn Everett McPherson, and give Lyle Jorgensen a call. He's better suited to you and he'd make Angela a terrific parent."

"I'm sorry, father, I'm going to have to pass on Lyle. I want my husband back."

"He's your ex-husband. Further more, if you pursue this, I'll use everything in my power to totally and completely destroy him. I assure you, my daughter, I can...and I will."

With her heart soaring in glee, Angela leapt from the limo and ran up the front steps of her grandparent's home and into the mansion. Unable to break her speed, she dashed up the stairs with her school bag in hand and dropped it on the floor as she entered the library to find her mother; too happy to notice how she sat at the computer vacantly staring.

"Well? What have you found? I think we should just go! Let's just go there and find a place, then we can have our stuff delivered later," she panted, breathing hard from her excited sprint.

Deidre turned her eyes upon her daughter to see her cheeks flushed with excitement, her eyes sparkling with anticipation. "Well? Have you found anything?" she asked her mother, finally noticing the crestfallen look in her eyes. "Mother? What's wrong?"

Deidre didn't know what to say, she could only stare.

"Mother! What's wrong?"

"We're not going," she said finally.

"What? Why not?" Angela asked, eyes wide.

"Angela...I've...I've been thinking about it all day. Nothing I say or do is going to make a difference with you father. It's over...I think it's—"

"You said! You said we're going there! That we'll move there! You said that you still loved him! That you would give it a try! You said! You promised! You can't go back on it now! I want to move to Wisconsin where my father is!"

"Angela, listen to me—"

"No! You promised that we'd go back! If you don't go back now, it'll be too late! She'll get him and you won't have a chance!"

"Angela! I don't have a chance now!"

"You have to try!"

"Stop shouting!"

"How do you know, if you don't try? Please, mommy…try...please try, at least! You have to!"

"Angela! Your mother has spoken."
