Dev and Adam helped Nikki move in to her mother’s house and she took over at Sweetheart’s until she could find a buyer for the bakery, half the proceeds of which would go to paying off Nikki’s debt. In the meantime she devoted her evenings to researching her future company and writing a business plan. She really
was
almost too busy to see Adam.

Almost.

Tonight, Nikki stood in a trench coat and high heels outside Adam’s apartment door. She knocked lightly and waited a few moments before knocking again.

Finally the door opened and Adam stood there, looking bleary-eyed, as if he’d been studying for twelve hours straight.

“Pizza girl,” she said, and opened her coat.

His mouth fell open.

“You ordered extra lace on top, right? And a garter belt with stockings?”

He was shirtless and unshaven, just the way she liked him. She placed her palms flat on his chest and pushed him backward, then kicked the door shut behind her and locked it.

“Oh, wow… Nikki, I have an exam tomorrow….”

“And I’m here to relieve all of your tension before it, Doctor Burke.” She stripped off the coat and tossed it to the floor. “Besides, what makes you think I’m staying? I have things to do until late…and I have no intention of getting up at 6:00 a.m., even to ogle your butt as you jog out the door.”

“About that,” Adam said. “How are we going to handle mornings if we get married?”

“Simple,” Nikki told him. “If you insist on being an early-rising alien life-form, then you’re going to sneak quietly out of the house and get take-out coffee.”

“I am?”

“Yep.”

“Well, I’m so glad we got that straightened out.”

Nikki grinned, steered him to the couch, pushed him down on it and straddled his lap. She pulled his head forward so that his face rested in her cleavage. “So, do I have to break your nose to get your attention, baby?” she crooned.

Nikki heard the rumble of his laughter deep between her breasts.

“Never again, I swear.”

She grabbed the remote control for the TV, which was on the couch beside them, and changed the channel to one with upbeat rock music.

“Now,” she said, tilting his chin back up. “Do you want a lap dance, or do you want a
lap
dance?”

Adam was fully awake now. “I’d like both, thanks.” He grinned.

“Ooh, I don’t know if you have time for that, you busy boy,” she said, trailing her fingers down his chest. “With your big exam and all.”

He caught her wrists and held them. “Be nice.”

She winked and wiggled on his lap. “But I don’t want to be nice. I’m all into the idea of being naughty right now—if, like I said, you have the time.”

He drew her toward him and kissed her. “For you, Nikki, I will always make time. Always.”

She held his bristly jaw tenderly between her hands. “Shh, don’t tell anyone, but I think I love you,” she whispered.

“I think I love you, too.”

Nikki slid off Adam’s knees, hooked a thumb in her G-string and began a very private dance just for him.

This time, he didn’t laugh.
