Breathless Awakening (The Breathless Series) (21 page)

I had left to clear my mind and relax after Luke passed out, but now I had more on my mind than ever before. A girl had just kissed me, and not to sound cliché, but I liked it. Trying to tell myself that I was so wet just from all the amazing sex was not a possibility at that moment. I had to be honest with myself in the fact that I wasn’t near that wet until her lips touched mine.

My rest that night was fitful as I tossed and turned all night. I wasn’t sure if I ever actually dozed off or not, but the next morning as the sun came up, I was wide awake. Adrenaline must have still been flowing through my veins. As time went on, I calmed down from the actual kiss, but then I started worrying about how I was going to tell Luke. I had to tell him, but how?

As Luke started to stir, I jumped out of bed and ran to the bathroom. Throwing the door shut and locking it, I heard him a moment later on the other side. “Cailyn, is everything alright?”

Embarrassed didn’t even begin to explain how horrible I felt at that moment. I hadn’t even been married a week and I had already been unfaithful. Well, maybe not completely, but I kissed someone other than my husband. Tears started to fall down my cheeks. I was unable to stop them and the muffled sniffling soon became an uncontrollable sobbing fit.

The handle started to shake as Luke tried to get in. “Cailyn, babe, let me in. What’s the matter?” Luke continued to shake the door before he started to pound on it with his fist.

I flung the door open and couldn’t help but slamming my fists down into his chest. “Dammit Luke, stop it!”

His arms wrapped around me, cradling me in a hug that was so warm and comforting. “Shh… Babe, what’s the matter. Whatever it is, shh… It will be okay.” He started to rub my back and rock me gently.

“It’s not going to be okay. You are going to hate me. I did a horrible thing, and I’m a horrible wife!” I could feel his chest getting wetter with my tears.

“What? How are you horrible? You were amazing last night. That was the best damn sex I have ever had.”

“I’m not talking about the sex.”

“Babe, just tell me what you are talking about. I can’t help you if you don’t tell me what happened.”

I pushed away from him so that I could look him in the eyes. If I was going to break his heart, I needed to be woman enough to look at him while I did it. “You had me so worked up last night, my heart was going a hundred miles an hour, and there was no way I was going to get to sleep. I thought it would be good if I went for a walk on the beach, let the breeze blow through my hair, feel the sand squish between my toes, and maybe that it would help me to calm down.

“I got so far down the beach that I found the rocks you were talking about with Giana and Autumn.” Just the mention of the rocks and their spot had his attention piqued. I couldn’t read him though to know how he was going to take this or what he was thinking. “When I realized where I was I turned around to come back. I didn’t know I had walked that far, and I didn’t want to run into them like you did. As soon as I turned around, I saw them walking towards me.”

“How does this make you horrible, Cailyn?”

I couldn’t take it anymore. I just blurted it out. “I kissed Giana!” I dropped my head into my hands. I couldn’t look at him anymore.

“You kissed her or she kissed you?”

“Does it matter? I kissed someone else.” I was shaking my head with it still buried in my hands. He probably couldn’t even understand what I was saying.

I felt his hands on mine as they pulled them away from my face. One finger came up to my chin and lifted it so that I could look at him. “You are telling a guy that you kissed another girl. Do you really think I am going to think you are horrible for it? Are you going to leave me for her?”

“How could you think such a thing? You know I love you and no one else.” My sobs were finally starting to quiet back to sniffles.

“Exactly! Why would I be upset if you kissed a girl? I think it’s hot!” A devilish grin started to spread across his face. “Can I watch next time?”

“You are such a pervert. There isn’t going to be a next time, ever!” I turned to walk back into the bathroom to wash my face. “How can you not be mad at me? My lips were on another woman.”

“Mmm… Does that mean that if I kiss you right now, it’s kind of like me kissing her? Wait, do I get to kiss other women too?”

“You are an ass, Luke.” I knew he was being silly and trying to make me feel better, or at least I hoped that was his plan. At least I wasn’t crying over it all still. “Hurry up and get ready. We need to get over to the spa as soon as we grab a quick bite to eat.”

This trip had to be a dream. Everywhere we went, it kept getting more perfect. They were waiting for us at the spa and directed us to a hut just off to the side of the building. Once we were undressed and draped on the table, they came back in and surprisingly pulled back the walls so that it was completely open. We could hear the waves and feel the breeze, even if we couldn’t see anything with our faces buried in the headrest.

I looked over to Luke to see him staring at the man pulling the walls back. You could see the look of concern on his face, worrying that this was his ‘Pedro’ that I warned him would be giving him his massage. Luke about jumped off the table when a hand rubbed up his leg. When I looked to see the person that was actually going to give him his massage I couldn’t help but be slightly jealous.

Standing there with her hands sliding up my husband’s calf was an exotic beauty, her dark hair cascading past her shoulders to her mid back. Her ample bosom was enough to put mine to shame. I wasn’t quite sure if I was jealous that she was going to be massaging him, or that she wasn’t going to be massaging me. I was going to have to stop thinking about other women like that. Jose leaned down to introduce himself and ask if I had any areas that I would like him to focus on. His accent was intoxicating, or maybe it was the way he was starting to rub my upper back. I placed my face back into the headrest and before long, I was so relaxed that I finally got that sleep that I missed out on the night before.

“Cailyn, hey, wake up, babe.”

Opening my eyes was near impossible. I was so relaxed. I had been in such a deep sleep. “I don’t wanna. Can’t I just lie here for a while?”

“I’m not sure that would go over very well with the plans you made for the day. They said something about the facial was next. I better be the one giving you the facial, but we could have done that in our room.”

I couldn’t help but giggle. “No dear, we are both getting facials. Don’t forget the manicures and pedicures also.”

I could see him puffing his chest out a little, trying to be all manly. “That stuff is for women. I don’t need to do any of that.”

“That’s cute, Luke, but you aren’t getting out of it. I did your silly zip line yesterday, and you told me you would do whatever I wanted today. You never know, you might like it.”

They left us some robes to put on before we went inside for more pampering. Luke was hesitant to follow me, not knowing exactly what I was getting him into. When we walked into the room, he completely relaxed. Every woman in that room was gorgeous. Where did they find them all?

I could tell they didn’t have many guys come through here, at least not the type that did them any good to ogle over. I felt like chopped liver being thrown to the side as they all pampered him like he was a king about to be crowned. I thought this day was supposed to be all about me. I couldn’t wait to see him after we went to the final appointment of the day.

“Wow! I feel great. I didn’t know that was going to feel so incredible. What about you, babe?”

“Yeah, it was fantastic.” I hoped that he was picking up on the sarcasm.

“You don’t mind if I tag along with you for those when we get home do you? I mean my face feels so alive right now. And my nails, I didn’t know they could feel so, so different. So what’s next? I’m loving this!”

“I’m glad you are having fun. Next is a quick wax job. I figured I would get rid of some hair that keeps getting on my nerves.”

As we walked into the room there was a quite burly woman getting her supplies ready. “Ouch, that sounds painful. I think I might like it though when you are done. Do you want me to wait outside for you?”

“No, no, no. I think you misunderstand. Your hair is getting on my nerves. I’m tired of getting it in my mouth.”

He started to backpedal out of the room, but before he could get through the door, ‘Olga’ had closed it. “Lie on table. You do this before?”

“Cailyn, I’m not going to do this. What the hell were you thinking?”

“Oh, come on, you said you would do anything for me. I’ll tell you more about that kiss.”

“Damn you. That story had better be worth it.” He climbed up on the table and laid back, the robe he was wearing falling open. “What in God’s name did you get me into?”

The woman stepped over with the tongue depressor with hot wax on it. “This will be warm. Try not to scream like big baby.”

As soon as the hot wax touched his balls, I thought he was going to come up off the table, but he did pretty well if you considered heavy breathing good. “Remember, Luke, in through your nose, out through your mouth.”

She waited until he had exhaled fully before she pulled that first strip off. He had no breath to scream, but I think he was about to pass out. “See, Luke, it’s not that bad.”

“Not that bad?! Did they learn this in a concentration camp or something? This is torture! Holy shit! Can you warn me next time?”

I think I saw a smile creep across her face before she ripped the next one off without warning. This was definitely worth going on that zip line.

Chapter Twenty‐Six

Zane

The Donnelly’s picked me up from Rhylie’s and we headed to Luke’s new house. Terry was still looking a little weak, but he swore that he was feeling better than he had in years. He kept telling us that he didn’t know that he felt so bad until they finished the procedure. That didn’t keep Aileen from reminding him very adamantly that he was not going to do any work other than supervising.

When they entered the house, they both turned around to look at me. Terry didn’t look very happy at all. “What happened? I thought they were delivering everything by now. Isn’t that why you stayed in town so that they could deliver it?”

“Yes, sir, I just wasn’t sure what went where. Most of it is in the garage with everything else. I didn’t want to have them put it in the wrong spot then have to maneuver it around other things. Don’t worry, sir, I can get most of it by myself.”

“Most of it, what about the rest? I am not going to let Terry help you, young man. Are you trying to put him back in the hospital?”

“Calm down, Aileen.”

“No, ma’am, I’m not trying to do any such thing. I talked with Rhylie about it and she spoke with Liz. Josh is more than happy to come over and help with some of the bulkier things. You can tell me where you want things and I will move them. One of the delivery guys said his brother actually lives just around the corner so he was nice enough to leave some furniture dollies for me to borrow. He said he would come get them this weekend when he went to his brother’s for a cookout.”

“I’m sorry, son, it’s just that we have been through a lot lately, and I guess we are a little stressed out. Between her accident and then all this with my heart, we didn’t mean to jump to conclusions.”

I reached up to pat Terry on the shoulder. “Don’t worry about it. Now how about I get to work? We’ve only got a few days left to get this place back together before they get home.”

“Don’t remind me. I’m going to leave the two of you to this while I run back home. I want to make sure there wasn’t anything of Cailyn’s left at the house that needs to come over now. I’ll bring back something for lunch in a couple hours.”

Walking into the garage was a nightmare. Sure I had made everything fit in there, but I didn’t know where to start to get it all out. “I’m not really sure the best place to start. I think I am going to carry some of these boxes in and put them somewhere. Any suggestions?”

“We obviously don’t know how they are going to want everything set up, but I’m pretty sure that Luke’s going to take over the basement for his things. You can take some of his things down there, then maybe we can figure out the best place for some of this new stuff after that.”

It wasn’t the quickest way to start since I had to walk to the other side of the house to get to the basement, but I was able to get quite a bit of things moved down there. I was starting to get more and more jealous of my brother. He had a ton of space in the basement to do whatever he wanted for a man cave, and he had the garage that Terry made sure was set up for a full workshop.

After the second trip up the stairs, I could see that Terry was getting winded. I wasn’t letting him carry anything, but just the physicality of the stairs taxed him. “Why don’t I bring you a chair down here so you can rest for a little bit? You don’t need to walk back and forth with me every trip.”

“Zane, I would love to argue with you right now, but I guess I just have to admit that I am getting old. That would be wonderful if you wouldn’t mind doing it.”
