“Thank you, Kade.” Deacon nodded at the chair before handing one of the cups over.

When he looked at his cup, Kade noted it was the way he preferred. “You remembered?” he whispered, more touched than he thought reasonable. It was only coffee, but still.

“Of course.” Deacon settled next to Kade, leaving a small space between them, but turning to face him. “I want to be up-front about a couple of things now that you’ve spent a little time with me, without your friends hovering. I do want to take you on as my sub, but I also want a real relationship. I don’t do clubs to find a sub for the night. I don’t share well with others, and believe the best Dom/sub relationships are about more than what happens in the playroom.”

“That’s what I want too. I did the club scene until….” Kade trailed off, the last night he’d gone to a club before the chair flashing through his mind again. “I, I never had a relationship with a Dom that lasted more than an hour or two, maybe a weekend at most. And since the chair, no Dom would even look at me.”

Deacon frowned. “You have never had an actual relationship?”

“I tried a vanilla relationship, but that’s been over for more than a year. It should have never happened, honestly, but Gary seemed to like me, and well, I figured—” Kade swallowed, his gaze dropping to his hands. He knew how pathetic he sounded but needed to be honest. “—it was best to take what was offered me, even if I wasn’t really satisfied. But, he um, wanted what he thought my wallet would get him, not a cripple like me.”

“First off, I do not ever want to hear you refer to yourself that way.” Kade nodded when Deacon didn’t continue right away. “Secondly, I believe neither one of us is after the other for monetary reasons.” Deacon reached out, trailing his long fingers up Kade’s throat before gently lifting his chin so he was forced to meet Deacon’s eyes. “And thirdly, I love vanilla, for cakes and ice cream. You can do lots with vanilla, but I have no use for it in the bedroom. That doesn’t mean we will never be Deacon and Kade instead of Sir and boy in bed, but it will not be the norm.”

“Yes, Sir. Thank you.” Kade smiled, trying to put all the hope and joy he felt at Deacon’s words into it.

“I know what I like, but other than knowing you like denial games and being bound, you haven’t told me what you hope for or your limits and boundaries.”

He’d thought a lot about how to answer this question over the last week, but still hadn’t settled on the exact answers in all cases. Kade knew what he liked, he just wasn’t certain what Deacon would be willing to do, what he would be okay with working around, and what he would refuse. Even back when he was whole and normal—well, as normal as he had ever been—he had run into Doms where what he craved and what they were willing to offer did not mesh. Kade really hoped this would not be one of those times.

“I do like denial and restraint of various kinds, but I also liked nipple clamps, the cane, spankings, and the, um, flogger?” Kade swallowed hard but continued. “I haven’t done anything like that in years, though, so my tolerance for some things might not be very high anymore. And….”

“And?” Deacon’s voice was curious yet soft. Kade didn’t know what expression was on his face, unable to look right then. “You have to be completely honest with me here, boy. I won’t do anything to you unless we are on the same page.”

With a nod, Kade forced himself to continue. “I have limited sensation in my legs, so things like the cane and flogger could be dangerous if you’re not very careful and wouldn’t have much effect on me physically.”

“You’re doing really well, Kade.” Deacon caressed up and down Kade’s throat again with his thumb, his strong fingers wrapped around the side to the back of his neck. “Is it only your legs that are like that?”

Kade’s mind raced, worried, unable to concentrate on exactly what Deacon had asked.

“Kade!” Deacon snapped, pulling him back to the question. “Focus on me only. Your ghosts and fears have no place between us.”

“Sir.” Kade took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm. He flicked his eyes up to check if Deacon looked mad, but all he saw was concern. “Sorry. The spinal damage means I can’t move my legs and the nerve damage left my legs with very little sense of touch and no mobility, but I’m still fully functional and one hundred percent in my groin and bottom.”

Deacon startled him with his loud laughter. “Good to know,” he managed to get out between chuckles.

not to laugh.

Oh God!
Kade was going to kill him with these sudden bursts of honesty. Well, not so much the honesty, as the humorous delivery at times.

Sobering, Deacon looked Kade over carefully, not taking his hand off his new boy’s neck. “I do not foresee that being a problem as I have no interest or intention to harm you. Give you erotic pain, yes; actually hurt you, no. What about your safe words? I do not play without them. Safe, sane, and
consensual
only.”

“Um, can I pick new ones? I don’t… I mean… I don’t want things from the past here.”

“Of course. You need one for red: full stop, the scene is over. You will also choose one for yellow: pause, something’s amiss that can be fixed and the scene can resume. I will use them as well if I feel the need.” He had only done that once, but he thought Doms that refused to acknowledge things could affect them negatively during a scene were setting themselves and their subs up for possible injury.

“You want a safe word?” The deep V between Kade’s brows and how his voice went higher made Deacon wonder about what kind of Doms he had been with before, but didn’t ask.

“Yes. Now, what are your words?”

Kade was quiet for a few minutes. It was easy to tell he was thinking, not panicking or ignoring the question. Deacon had never seen a sub deliberate over safe words before, but he found the seriousness with which Kade took the topic endearing.

When Kade finally looked up, he smiled tentatively. “Since you gave me colors as a base, I will pick
cinnamon
and
lemon
as my safe words.”

“Wonderful, Kade. I know you wanted to see the playroom, and I want to show it to you, but before we do that, I have a couple of other things to discuss. Did you bring the item I requested?” It would be needed shortly, if he were going to do what he planned to his sexy new boy.

“I did.” Kade smiled, his breath catching. “It’s in the pack on the back of my chair.”

Kade shifted around until he could pull his chair to him. Deacon didn’t move to interfere or assist, given how independent his boy seemed. Once he’d pulled the bag off, he turned, setting it in his lap. Kade pulled out a small black bag and then put his backpack back on his chair. The telltale metal clink when he set it between them sent a small thrill through Deacon. He could not wait to use it.

“I’ve had this for a long time, but it’s not been used in a couple of years. I, uh… I cleaned it again and made sure it all worked right,” Kade rambled, his words running into each other.

“Offer it to me if you wish me to have it. Your submission must be freely given, boy.” Deacon moved so his legs were farther apart, his cock already hard and wanting. He did not intend to take Kade yet—they needed time to build trust and bond first—but just the thought had him craving everything from Kade.

The deep, shuddering breath Kade took told him how much he wanted this, them. “Please, Sir,” Kade said, his voice stronger than Deacon expected, “I want you to have my cock cage and the key to its lock.” He held the bag out, balanced on the palms of his upturned hands, eyes down, and posture as close to exact as was possible while sitting on a couch.

Instead of taking the bag from Kade, Deacon leaned over and scooped him up, settling him carefully in his lap. He wrapped one arm around Kade’s waist, both because he wanted the contact and to offer support in the new position. Kade’s hands flailed, nearly dropping the cage.

“Sir?”

“You were too far away, boy.” Deacon fought a smile at the incredulous look his boy gave. “I’ll take that.” With his free hand, he took the bag and set it beside them before cupping Kade’s cheek. A shiver rocked Kade, making Deacon want him even more. Slowly, he ran his thumb along the edge of Kade’s bottom lip. Kade parted his lips, a small gasp escaping with his breath.
So responsive
.

Kade leaned forward, opening his mouth a little more. Deacon turned Kade’s face toward him and then slid his hand around the back of his neck. The grip he had on his boy stopped him from moving forward. Kade’s breath sped, his eyes closing. Deacon hovered another moment before he dipped forward and pressed his lips to the soft, sweet mouth that had been tempting him all evening.

At first he kept it to a light press, his lips barely moving against Kade’s. After a moment though, he wanted more of his boy and deepened the kiss, tracing Kade’s lips with his tongue before slipping inside to taste and explore. After a few moments, Kade tentatively joined in, sucking and tangling his tongue with a hunger that surprised Deacon. He knew Kade had not been with anyone in a while, but somehow he hadn’t expected the raw need his boy showed him. When he pulled back, Kade whimpered softly, but didn’t fight him. “Such a beautiful boy,” Deacon whispered before taking another kiss.

The entire time Kade’s fingers twitched, but he didn’t reach out as Deacon continued kissing him.
This won’t do
. “Give me your noises, boy, and your touch.”

A moment later, Kade’s fingers carded through Deacon’s short hair. The contact was tentative at first, but as he continued his assault on Kade’s mouth, his boy tightened his grip and let loose with soft moans. Each sound spurred Deacon on, making him crave his boy even more. Eventually, he pulled back again, deciding it was time to move things upstairs.

“I want to get to know you more, but for right now, I want you in my playroom, on the bed.”

Kade blinked open his eyes, the glazed look there satisfying. “Yes, Sir. But, um, how?” Those eyes widened when Deacon sat him on down beside him before standing and smoothing his hands down his pants.

Deacon collected the bag with Kade’s cage and stepped around the side of the couch, stopping beside Kade’s chair. “I do not have a second chair for you upstairs, so I need to move this one first. Be patient, and I will return for you shortly.” Not waiting for a response, Deacon pushed the chair out of the front room toward the stairs. He flashed back to his last boy, but he didn’t want to think about him. Betrayal wasn’t something Deacon could tolerate. If they worked out, he would have to find a long-term remedy to the stairs issue, but for now, carrying Kade would serve more than simply the need to transport his boy up to the play area.

Once the chair was in place at the top of the stairs, Deacon stepped into the room they would use and set the bag down on the nightstand. He took a moment to look around, taking in the new additions he had made during the week. The bamboo poles stood in one corner, ready for use. One of the two high-backed beanbag type cushions rested near the foot of the bed; its twin was downstairs in the breakfast nook. If Kade stayed the night, they would have need of it in the morning. There was a new swing and new rope waiting also, though he wouldn’t use those yet. Deacon shot a quick glance at the cabinet, hoping he would be able to break out some of his favorite toys soon. He wanted to show Kade the floggers and clamps especially, as well as things like the Wartenberg pinwheel. Satisfied with how things were situated, Deacon returned to the first floor, eager to begin their play.

When he reentered the front room, Kade was sitting on the couch where Deacon had left him, but he was twisting his fingers and chewing on his lower lip enough Deacon worried for the abused bit of flesh. “Relax, boy. You are not alone. I would never leave you without a way to get around.”

Nodding, Kade released his lip and let out a pent-up breath. “Sorry, Sir. I didn’t mean….”

Deacon took in how tense Kade still seemed, curious and annoyed. “Has someone done that to you? Moved your chair and left you trapped like that?”

Kade shrugged, his shoulders slumping even more.

“Out loud, boy. I cannot protect you, even from your ghosts, if you hide them from me.” Kade’s response told him that yes, someone had used Kade’s mobility issues against him, and not just verbally or through shunning. Deacon knew he was scowling but wasn’t too concerned as Kade’s gaze was riveted on his hands.

“Gary, my ex, did that to
ground
me when he got pissed off at me. I got rid of him after the last time, but….”

Deacon stepped closer and squatted beside Kade, as he had that first night. “Look at me, Kade.”

Kade’s head snapped up, eyes wide, as he swallowed. “Yes?”

“I will discipline you when needed, but I promise you, I will never use your chair or your mobility as a weapon against you. A Dom does not take your submission, a sub gives it. You know that, right?” When Kade nodded, he continued. “Then give me another kiss before I carry you to your wheelchair and show you around my play space.”
