About The Author

I’m twenty-eight, a wife, a mother to three children and the author of the Daylight Series. Currently my writing career consists of four books, the Daylight trilogy and Hell Hath no Fury, which is a standalone novel based on a true events. All of them are self published and can be found on Amazon. When I was younger, I never dreamed of being an author—I think I wanted to be a pop star or actress these were pretty farfetched dreams, so I settled for being an accountant or marine biologist. My grades at school were abysmal and not worthy of a mention, I also never went on to higher education. I have absolutely no qualifications in creative writing or any similar subjects, but I have a very overactive imagination and I’m an avid reader of all genres of fiction.

The reason I decided to write a book was because I got really angry with a book I was reading, at the time I was giving up smoking so it had really frustrated me. It involved a woman who self harmed and I felt that the author didn’t handle the subject sensitively. In fact at times it seemed she was mocking the woman’s mental health. I’m actively trying to raise awareness of mental health as it is a topic close to my heart. So needing to do something with my hands, I started writing my books based on a young woman suffering with mental health issues including the addiction of self harming whilst adding in a little romance and a hint of suspense. I wrote the book initially for my own enjoyment and to kick my smoking habit, however when friends started asking to read it I developed the plot into a trilogy—and still smoke occasionally.

Gradually over the last year I have developed a growing fan base, I love interacting with my readers as they make me immensely proud of the work I’ve produced. I have discovered that I really enjoy writing and putting my imagination to good use and with the encouragement of family, friends and fans, I’ve continued putting pen to paper. Along with the four books already completed, I’ve planned out another series and a Christmas novel.

Five years ago my dreams were completely different to what they are today. Previously I’ve never found anything that satisfied me enough to warrant a career in, until now. My dream now is to become a published author and I will work as hard as I can until that happens.

How to Help An Indie Writer

We are Indie Writers. This means that we either self-publishing our work or we are being published by a small company and not one of the “Big 6” publishers. We enjoy being independent; we can write what we want when we want with little to no oversight from above. It also means we are doing all of the heavy lifting for ourselves, and that is the part we enjoy the least. We don’t enjoy constantly spamming social media with information on our latest works, but it’s a task we have to do.

“What can I do to help you out?” you ask.

The answer is very simple. There is a short list of things you can do to give us a helping hand.

•Share information about our work with your friends and family

•Like, review, and rate our work wherever and whenever you can.

•Finally, you can sign up for the company mailing list (link below) to keep up with the latest goings-on our work

We at
Gorillas With Scissors Press
look forward to producing more products that you can enjoy, and we anticipate a long and happy reader/writer relationship!

Do you like helping? Do you like free books and awesome swag? Do you like getting free books and awesome swag for helping?

If you answered yes to any of that, perhaps you would like to join the GORILLAS WITH SCISSORS PRESS BOOK CLUB!

So what is the GWSP Book Club? Are we just a bunch of genre fiction freaks and geeks flinging poo at one another?

Of course not… who told you that?

No, the GWSP Book Club is just that, a book club. For as little as $1 you can be a member of this elite group.

But what do you get out of it?

What, helping us out isn’t enough? Well, I agree the good feeling of helping isn’t enough. Depending on your subscription mount members get access to content beyond the Pay Wall,  monthly Skype or Google Hangout Q&A's, exclusive behind the scenes information, a monthly (or more often) exclusive story, free digital copies of our new releases, free paperbacks, free audio-books, when new swag is created (buttons, stickers, bookmarks…, etc.) Book Club members get the first crack.

What will we do with these funds?

First and foremost we'll be hiring new staff. We are in desperate need of a full-time copy editor/proofreader along with an art director. After that, we'll be bringing more writers into the fold.

We hope you choose to join us on this journey of growth and expansion!

About Gorillas with Scissors Press

In 2007, my youngest son was seven years old; a dog mauled him. While we were at the hospital waiting for the plastic surgeon to work his magic, my wife told him not to be afraid. He told her, in his morphine-induced calmness, which he wasn’t afraid of anything except gorillas and scissors. I asked him, ‘What about gorillas with scissors?’ and he replied deadpan, ‘Them too.’ I swore at that moment if I ever founded my publishing company that would be the name. So that’s how we got our name, from a stoned, seven-year-old boy who’d been savaged by a dog.

Only in America… and maybe Canada.

Five years later, and after a long and frustrating process of trying to go the traditional publishing route, I decided to found my publishing company. For two and a half years I worked a regular job and took the baby steps needed to grow the Monkey House. Along the way, I encountered Mrs. Jennifer Tovar, who changed the game forever. She started out as my editor and eventually became my equal partner. At the end of 2014, we merged our separate operations into one and made GWSP our only occupation.

So what are we?

At Gorillas With Scissors Press, we believe the creators should guide their visions and thus, should reap the rewards. We are an indie publishing house with our products spanning the gamut. No genre is off limits in the Monkey House—from Horror, Romance, Erotica, Thrillers, Science Fiction, Fantasy, and everything in between, GWSP has it!

We are the home of the indie writer looking for a safe place to create and not have to worry about having their creations stolen out from under them or being exploited by unscrupulous publishers. We are a cooperative group dedicated to nurturing writers and preparing them for long and productive careers. We believe in the New Model of publishing where the traditional gatekeepers are set aside, and creators have the freedom to create.
