Called to Duty (Adventures Through Time) (8 page)

“Amesemi,” Nefertari nodded. “Are you all sure you wish to stay?”

“Absolutely. I like it here. It’s peaceful now and there’s nothing back in our time to go back to. I don’t know if any of you remember, but I do;” Mitchell said. “Our jeep was sitting on a big IED that went boom.”

Alex thought for a moment. “You’re right…I remember stopping the vehicle, but I…I forgot that part.”

“Me too,” Ian agreed.

“I had a few nightmares since I have been here,” Greg admitted. “I thought I was just having a nightmare about what we would be going back to, but I guess I was having one about what we had been taken from.”

“So we stay?”

“Yes, Sir. We stay.” They all said.

“I have a sexy warrior waiting for me,” Greg grinned. “Met her on the field and let me tell you she kicks butt.”

“And I have her sister.” Mitchell agreed. “Speaking of…shouldn’t we get back to the ladies?” They said their goodbyes and walked back toward the party.

“Hey, I don’t have anybody.” Ian pouted. “I don’t suppose goddesses date mortals do they? She was hot.”

Nefertari laughed.

“No, but warriors do.” The tiny voice came from behind the bushes. “Care to come with me?”

Nefertari saw Ian look over Hesena. Hesena was one of her best warriors. She was beautiful, very tall, very curvaceous in all the right places and many men wanted her yet she had refused them all. Nefertari knew Hesena was just waiting for her perfect match and she had clearly declared Ian to be that match.

“Oh most definitely,” he grinned, wiggled his eyebrows at Alex and took off with Hesena.

Alex turned his attention back to her and she to him. “So what about us?”

“If you want to, we marry and you become my mate.”

“I want to,” he admitted. “But I’m a warrior. While I want peace I also want to continue to train in case my services are needed again.”

“Then you shall,” she wrapped her arms around him and he wrapped his arms around her. “We shall marry swiftly so you will be able to return to my bed.”

“Let’s do it today.”

“We cannot. The ceremony must be done a certain way, but we will marry soon…by the end of three days; yes?”

“If we have to wait that long, sure. If we can do it sooner, let’s do it sooner.”

“I will talk to Inka about rushing the affair. I am sure he will understand and probably push for faster nuptials.”

“Why?”

“Because he will then feel as if you are one hundred percent responsible for my safety. I will have guards, and he will always worry, but I believe he has held off from marrying not just because of the war, but because he needed the next on the throne to marry first.”

“Good to know he’ll be in our corner for swifter nuptials.”

She laughed and pulled closer to him. “We can stay like this a little while longer but then we have to return to the party.”

“Okay,” he agreed. “But first, I have to do this.” He tilted her head back and claimed her lips with his in a kiss that made her forget the world they were in and only feel the love they shared.
