TUDOR THOMAS,

Honorary President,
Manchester
City

“I used to look after Neil on the treatment table and I know from speaking to him that he always dreaded the Leeds United fixture because they always dished out a bit of rough treatment for him. Before one
Leeds
game, he had a bit of an in-growing toenail and he told me he wanted to be excused from the squad because the toenail would have stopped him playing!”

SIDNEY ROSE,

Life President,
Manchester
City
and former Club Doctor

“I never teamed up with him on the pitch but I have teamed up with him on the golf course. We would have made a good combination.
Me at left back and Neil at left wing.”

ROY
LITTLE,
Former
City
Player

“A particular memory was when Neil was playing for
Rusholme
Secondary – otherwise known as

Heald
Place
. By the time Neil was fifteen everybody had heard of his prowess. We went for a game at our school,
Chorlton
Grammar, one Monday night and all the kids were excitedly weighing us up as their side approached their school. ‘Which one of you is Neil Young? Is he playing?’ they asked as the team got to the school.

“I went to primary school with Neil and soon realised he wasn’t playing. Our school were mightily relieved. The game ended 2-2 and we were delighted. Unfortunately Neil played in the replay and his side won 6-0. One of the
Chorlton
Grammar lads described it as ‘Neil Young versus us eleven.’ That’s an illustration of the difference he made.”

ROY
CONNER, City Supporter

“The year Neil Young was born, 1944, I started work at
Pattreiouex
tobacco factory. I first saw City play in 1934 when Matt Busby was in the team and I’ve seen them play ever since.

“I can honestly say that Neil Young is in the top five I’ve ever seen, up there with Denis Law, Colin Bell, Mike
Summerbee
and Francis Lee. His goals, in the FA Cup final, up at Newcastle to win the league, against
Gornik
... showed he had the best left foot in the game. He should have played for
England
.

“Neil’s a hell of a nice fellow, a true
Manchester
man and a great example to the youth of today. I wish him all the best teaching kids to play in Wilmslow - he’s a man to look up to. He was a great footballer.”

BERNARD MANNING,

Legendary Comedian and City supporter
