I breathe her in. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry for the way I acted. There wasn’t a moment I didn’t want you, Cassandra. Not a single moment from the minute I first saw you. I promise I will make up for the way I sent you away. I’ll do anything.”

“Anything?”

“Anything,” I say with a smile.

“Come with me to the doctor tomorrow? I’m having my twelfth-week sonogram.”

My heart starts beating wildly. “We’re going to see our baby?”

Cassandra’s lips splits up in a stunning smile. “If you want.”

“Want? Baby, I’m dying to see her.”

“You think it’s a girl?”

I shrug and fall on my side, pulling her in my arms. “I’m picturing a girl because it will be a mini you.”

She giggles and my lips tilt up at the sound. “I’m picturing a boy to be a mini you.”

“Did I hurt you before?” I ask cautiously. “Was I too rough?”

“No,” she reassures me, pressing a kiss on my chest. “You were perfect.” She sighs in contentment. “I thought you’d freak out.”

“I did, actually,” I confess. “It’s why it took me so long to come out of the bathroom. I saw the vitamins and I was freaking out every fucking way possible. That freak-out though lasted about a minute or two. Then there was only one word in my mind.”

“Oh, yeah?” she asks softly. “What was that?”

With a move that startles her into a small yelp, I push her down on the bed, pressing my hard shaft against her and slowly bringing my lips to hers. “Mine,” I growl like an animal. “You’re mine. That baby is mine.”

“My caveman,” she breathes and it’s the last coherent word she manages before I take possession of her body.

“Well, it’s great to finally meet you, Damon. Cassandra has, of course, told me a lot about you.”

I shake the doctor’s hand while Cassandra unbuttons her jeans and settles on the examination table. “It’s nice to meet you, doc. Thank you for taking care of my girls.”

The doctor’s eyebrows fly up in amusement. “Girls, huh? You’re expecting a baby girl then?”

I shrug, going for nonchalance to hide my embarrassment at my slip-up. “Don’t get me wrong. Whether it’s a boy or a girl I’m ecstatic. It’s only a matter of how I’ve been picturing Cassandra.”

The doctor smiles and I turn to see Cassandra smiling widely too. “Well, I like your answer, Damon. Most men would proudly state that they would know exactly what their baby would be. Your answer tells me that you’re honest.”

I scratch the back of my head, not knowing what to say.

Apparently the doc isn’t expecting an answer at all and she gestures me towards the chair next to Cassandra’s head. “Take a seat then. Let’s see how we’re doing.”

I watch as she squeezes some kind of gel on Cassandra’s lower stomach and then she’s pressing the stick of the ultrasound over it and the screen is filled with moving shades. And then my heart thunders in my chest as I see my baby. Right there on the screen. There’s a head and a nose and those are definitely tiny legs and arms.

“Alright then! Let’s see how we measure up.” She draws some lines on the computer screen. “Everything looks great.”

I’m speechless and mesmerized. That’s my baby I’m seeing on that screen. “Is…” my voice is gruff with emotion and I clear my throat. “Is it too early to tell the gender?”

The doctor smiles and looks back at the screen. “Well, it depends. Sometimes, mostly when it’s a boy, we might be able to see it even now. Right now, I’m not seeing any boy parts but that could mean that the picture isn’t clear. It’s not like we can tell the baby to scoot over and show us. All evidence right now shows it’s a girl but it’s still too early to say for sure.”

I nod, understanding what she means but I honestly don’t care. That’s my baby. Whether it’s a son or daughter it doesn’t matter. I already love him or her. I grab Cassandra’s hand and bring it to my mouth, placing soft kisses on the back of her hand and her palm. “I love you, baby. I love you both so much.”

She sniffles and looks at me with tears in her eyes. “I love you too, baby.”

The doctor smiles secretly and presses a few buttons on the machine. “One last thing now.” She presses one final button.

And then I stop breathing.

That’s… That sound… It’s the most beautiful sound I’ve heard in my life. It thunders in my chest and my heart tries to catch its rhythm.

Cassandra brings her hand over her mouth and sobs. “Oh my God, that’s its heartbeat.”

I can’t help the tears that slide down my cheeks. They are the first tears of joy I’ve shed in my life.

“I can give you two a moment if you’d like,” the doctor whispers and she turns the machines off and leaves before I can nod my agreement.

When I’m alone in the room with Cassandra and the sound of our baby’s heart still reverberating in my mind, I drop to my knees and lay my head on her belly.

“Thank you,” I say gruffly. “Thank you for giving me everything I needed and didn’t even know I wanted. Thank you for finding me and reminding me what it is to live instead of simply existing.”

Her hands caress my hair at my temples and I feel her pressing her mouth on the top of my head. “I love you, Damon. Thank you for coming to me.”

I tilt my head back and look up at her. I don’t care that she sees me crying or that she wipes the tears from my cheeks. These tears are for her and for the love she’s given me. And I know the tears I’m wiping from her own cheeks are the same kind.

“Marry me, Cassandra. I know I’m doing this all wrong and I haven’t even bought a ring yet but I don’t care. You’re mine and I want you to be my wife. We can go right now, together and you can get any ring you want. But I need you to say the word right now, baby. Marry me.”

Her lush lips pull wide at the most breathtaking smile and her eyes glint with happiness and mischief. “What if I don’t want to marry you?”

I smile wolfishly and lunge at her, growling like a wild man. “Marry me. Say you will, Cassandra or I’ll take you back to my cabin and burry my cock in your pussy until all you’ll be able to ever say is yes.”

“My caveman,” she whispers before pulling me down for a kiss. “Yes. I’ll marry you. I’ll be yours and you’ll be mine, forever.”

I claim her mouth as mine because I can no longer go without her taste. It’s when I feel my cock stiffen that I know I have to get us both out of there. “We’ll go get that ring right now and then we’re going back to your apartment because I have to be inside you, baby. I need you so badly I’m in physical pain.”

“Yes, let’s go,” she pants, pushing at me almost in desperation.

That’s all I need. Time to call the doctor to tell us what we need to know and get the hell out of here.

Epilogue

“D
addy, is it today? Are we getting my sister today?”

“Easy, there, princess. Alana will come home tomorrow.”

Emma starts squealing and clapping while jumping up and down. “Yea! Layla, did you hear that? I’m getting my sister
tomorrow
!”

“God, has my goddaughter always been this loud?” Layla says while rubbing her ear.

I laugh. “When she’s excited? This is actually kind of tame.”

“Elijah, my sister is coming home tomorrow!” Emma keeps squealing.

Elijah looks up from his toy train and gives a toothy grin. “Dad, when is my brother going to be born?”

Dean looks down at Layla’s small bump and smiles. “A few months still, buddy. On March.”

“What about my mom?” Emma asks Dean without stopping her continuous bouncing.

“Same,” Dean answers with a chuckle.

“Then why is Cassandra’s belly bigger than mom’s?”

Damon’s arms tighten around me and he brings his lips on my ear. “Because Damon’s swimmers are better than Dean’s,” he murmurs cockily only for me to hear.

I smack at his thigh but I can’t help the smile that tugs at my lips. I place my hands over Damon’s on my swollen belly and together we rub them over our babies.

“Because your crazy godparents are having twins, baby boy,” Layla answers with a shake of her head half in amusement and half in disbelief. “I only have one bun in the oven.”

“But how did Damon put two babies in there? Why can’t dad do the same?”

I have to turn my head and press my face into the crook of Damon’s neck to hide my smile. Damon is shaking with silent laughter underneath me.

We’re gathered in our living room that is lit only by the Christmas tree and the fireplace. I’m sitting on the floor next to Elijah who is playing with his toy train, leaning on Damon who is leaning on the couch behind him. Layla and Dean have assumed pretty much the same position at the foot of the other couch. We’ve just had dinner and Cole with Victoria and the kids left about half an hour ago.

We won’t be having Christmas dinner with them this year. Our adoption papers have finally been finalized and we’re getting our daughter tomorrow, on Christmas Eve. So, with little Alana at home, we thought it’d be best if we kept family dinner as small as possible. Only the people currently in the room will be attending.

This interrogation – as Layla calls it – is actually very common with Elijah and Emma. They’re both very excited to have brothers on the way and now Alana’s arrival is spurring them on.

Layla sighs and pins Elijah with a
duh
look. “Sweetheart, Cassandra and Damon are crazy, like I said before. They’ve made a weird pact with their fairy godmother and are planning to make their very own soccer team.”

“Don’t listen to your mom, Elijah,” I laugh. “It’s only a matter of chance that I’m having twins and she’s not. We never know how these things will happen.”

Elijah’s face comes up and he shoots me a serious look that has me wanting to squeeze his cheeks until he laughs. This kid is too old for his age. “Well, I think I like it better that I only have one brother on the way and not two. Babies are loud.” He turns to his parents. “Maybe though you can give me a sister once my brother is a little older?”

Oh my God, I love my godson.

Emma plops down beside Elijah and grins at him. “But you don’t need more sisters. You have me and you’ll have Alana.” She opens her fingers and starts counting. “With your brother and my two brothers on the way…” she looks down at her five open fingers and then turns them towards Elijah, “you’ll have this many brothers and sisters. How many will we be then, Layla? Can we make a soccer team?”

Now we all laugh and the kids laugh with us. “No, baby, that will make only six of you,” Layla answers. “A soccer team needs at least five more.”

Emma turns to me with barely restrained excitement. “Are we going to have so many babies, mommy?”

I start to tell her that there’s no way that is happening but Damon puts his hand over my mouth and answers instead. “Princess, daddy will try his best to get mommy pregnant as many times as possible. But no promises, okay?”

My daughter frowns for a moment as she considers something and then smiles up at us again. “Then maybe we can get more sisters the way we found Alana?”

“Alright, that’s enough about babies and brothers and sisters,” I say ending the discussion. “Time to go to bed, young lady.”

“But Elijah is still here,” she whines.

“Not for long,” Dean says. “Come on, buddy. Let’s pack your train and go home. It’s getting late.”

Elijah looks up at Emma with a sad expression but that’s about all the protest he ever does. Then he starts disassembling the tracks. Emma drops her head in defeat and stands to kiss Layla and Dean goodnight. She then comes to Damon and me and drops on her knees. She kisses her dad, then me and then lifts my shirt up to press a kiss on either side of my belly. Her move brings tears to my eyes, even though she does it every night since we told her we were having twins.

“Go upstairs, baby girl,” Damon whispers with emotion coloring his voice. “I’ll come tuck you in when you’re ready.”

“Baby, are you asleep?”

I don’t have to answer. Even if I was, with the way his lips move over my ribs and his fingers trail up between my thighs, he knows I would have woken up from hibernation. I was sensitive during my first pregnancy. With the twins, I’m in a constant state of arousal.

“God, Damon, stop teasing me.”

He chuckles and moves closer to me, pressing his hard cock against my ass. “You want me inside you, Cassandra? You want me to fuck you, baby?”

“Yes,” I breathe as I bring my hand around to grab his hot erection. “Now.”

He hums in approval. “I love it when you’re bossy. When you’re insatiable.”

I align him with my entrance and push back to take him in my body. “I’m always insatiable with you.”

“Exactly,” he murmurs and pushes forward in a slow thrust. “Only you’re not getting fucked tonight, gorgeous.” He starts a slow rhythm that strokes every single one of my nerve endings. “I’m making love to my wife tonight.”

I smile as I already feel the heady tendrils of my orgasm gathering. “That’s what you’ve been saying since I’ve started growing bigger.” I let out a sigh of contentment when he cups my breasts and squeezes lightly. “I’m not going to break, you know.”

He scrapes his teeth over my shoulder before pushing up on his elbow. He bends his head over my breast and sucks on my nipple hard. I have to bite my lip to keep from crying out. This man is making me mad with lust. I love it when he tastes my leaking breasts and I know he loves it too. “I’m not afraid of breaking you, baby. I just want to savor you.” He thrusts hard once before returning to his slow strokes. “I know you come harder when I drag out your pleasure. This is me rewarding you, thanking you for everything you’ve given me.”

My peak is already getting close and there is no point in arguing with him. He knows my body better than I do and he can do whatever he wants with it. “God, Damon, I love you so much.”

“I love you, Cassandra. Always.”

He kisses me softly and then we’re both lost in the sensations he’s creating, the feel of our connected bodies, the sound of our hard breathing and the love that pulses between us. Every kiss and caress, every thrust and moan is our way of showing each other what we mean, what we are together.

He brings me close to the edge and pulls back, doing as he promised and prolonging my orgasm. He does that three times before I whimper in frustration. “You want to come, baby?”

“Please.”

“Come with me,” he commands and picks up his pace. A few thrusts later his hand over my mouth is muffling my screams and he’s groaning in my neck as we fall over the edge together.

Damon’s fingers are tapping on the steering wheel incessantly. We’re on our way to pick up Alana right now. We left Emma home with our housekeeper to give Alana some time to prepare for her. Her enthusiasm is a little over the top.

Damon told me he wanted us to adopt a child almost two years after Emma was born. I agreed immediately. Why not offer a home to another child when we had the means to do it? And it would mean Emma would have a brother or sister. Of course it took two more years for the adoption to be approved and the whole process to be completed but now we were here. And of course we hadn’t expected for me to get pregnant with twins during that time but it still didn’t change our choice.

“You’re nervous, aren’t you?” I ask my wonderful husband.

He gives me a sheepish smile before looking back at the road. “You can tell, huh? I just want everything to be okay.”

I place my hand on his thigh. “And it will be.”

“I want to be a good father to her,” he whispers so low that I almost miss it.

“Baby, you
are
a great father. Just ask Emma. Why would it be any different for Alana?”

He exhales slowly. “I guess you’re right.” We reach the adoption agency and he parks right outside. Before I can reach for the door handle, he grabs my hand and brings it to his lips. He just holds it there.

“Hey, I have an idea,” I tell him as I remove my seatbelt and lean towards him. “Every time you feel nervous you kiss me. That will take your mind off things.”

He chuckles and leans closer to bring his face right over mine. “One, that is a very devious plan to get me to kiss you more and completely unnecessary since you know I’m addicted to your taste.”

I grin devilishly. “I know!”

“Two, that will give me a hard-on since I’m always halfway there when you’re near me. And it’s very inappropriate right now.”

My smile turns sheepish. “True.”

He turns serious. “And three, I love you. I’ll be okay as long as you’re with me.”

“Always,” I promise instantaneously. And then blink up at him coyly. “As long as you find me a bathroom stat because your sons are sitting on my bladder.”

He laughs heartily. “Got it, boss. Let’s get inside, get you to the bathroom and get our daughter.”
