As darkness descended on the cabin, with Nikki and Kade bathed only in moonlight and candlelight, the mood was perfectly romantic. A fantastic meal sat happily within their stomachs as their simple chatter died away. They had never run out of anything to say, constantly laughing, joking, discussing their lives and their future aspirations.

They were from two different worlds, and this was clear every time Kade changed into a bear. She watched him hunt some days, the cruelness of his actions when he took down a young dear but the kindness and care he took with the body both frightened and pleased her. The longer Nikki spent with him, the further she could feel herself falling for him. She hadn’t met anyone like him before and knew she never would again.

As the conversation died away, they fell into a familiar routine as they readied themselves for bed. Tonight, however, felt different to Nikki. The pull to Kade was stronger than ever and she knew she would not be able to fight it all night. Her dreams had grown more and more erotic as her desires were left unanswered.

“Why don’t you go and get comfortable and I will clean up,” Nikki offered with a soft smile, picking up the plates and dishes. Tonight was going to be the night that everything changed for them. A soft hum slipped past her lips as she cleaned up, but her thoughts only grew dirtier as time passed. A plan slowly formed in her mind as she waited for him to settle in bed. Nikki knew that Kade would do anything and everything to keep her happy. It was as if nothing could touch them in their perfect happiness. That was, until Nikki realised her period was late. It all became very real for her.

She knew she was pregnant, even before taking the pregnancy test that was always carried at the bottom of her bag; she had her mother to thank for that piece of advice. There was a moment where she was elated with the news. She would be able to start a family with her prince and have the fairy tale life that she had always dreamed of. But the whisper in the back of her mind grew to a deafening roar and forced her to look at it again.

They had not known each other for long, and he was a beast. That whisper within her knew that it just was not right, that Kade would not accept or be delighted at the news of a bundle of supposed joy. Panic set in; her palms grew sweaty as she looked for a way out. Everywhere she looked he was there, it was his cabin and everything slowly started to close in on her.

Nikki could not breathe, so without a second thought she threw herself out of the cabin and into the darkened woods. She could not see through the tears that flooded her eyes but she kept pushing her way through the trees. She could not hear or feel the danger that came creeping up on her.

The wolves had a vendetta against Nikki, stalking her down, now determined to call her and her unborn baby dinner. Nikki was so wrapped up in her emotions that she did not realise the danger until it was all over.

A wolf came flying past her head, its body colliding with a tree before she watched it limp away. She was frozen to the ground, blinking away tears as she realized her life was being saved for a second time. Kade’s unmistakable bear had come to her rescue. Something within him told him that Nikki was in danger. He cared nothing about his safety, only about hers.

It did not take him long to defeat the small pack of wolves and to send them scurrying away with their tails between their legs. He changed in a flash and scooped Nikki into his arms, cradling her close to his chest. She could hear his heart thudding loud and clear in his chest, the worry etched onto his every muscle.

“What were you doing? You had me worried to death!” He shouted at her, the fear of loss leaking into his every word.

“I couldn’t…..I don’t….I’m pregnant….” She choked out. She could not lie to him, could not hide his child from him. Nikki braced herself for his reaction, always fearing the worst.

“You’re…you’re what…?” He stumbled over his words before being swept away in pure excitement “That’s fantastic!” He could not contain himself, spinning around with a loud booming laugh as if all his dreams had come true.

Nikki was stunned; she could not believe that a beast, even her prince would have accepted her situation so happily. However, for Kade it was a chance to have a life he never dreamt he would have.

They both had someone in their lives now that accepted them no matter what. And they brought a life into the world through their pure love. Nikki and Kade, were from two different worlds, a beauty and a beast, but now they started the rest of their lives. Together.
