“I see nothing at all to criticize in this plan,” chuckled Nikolas. “Well, shall we leave the youngsters to handle the cleanup of their successful operation while we go put in some practice on just that?”

“I think I have a candlemark or two before the Council meeting,” Kyril agreed, and looked to his other friend. “Steveral?”

“Nothing would suit me better,” Lord Jorthun replied. And the three of them left the Audience Chamber together.

“I think that was a hint we should go help Sedric,” Amily said into the silence.

“Huh,” said Mags, looking after them. “Reckon they got our lives all planned out for us—”

“Maybe not our lives, but certainly our
day
,” Amily corrected. “Let's go help Sedric. I'd like to see things properly tidied up.”

“I want t' make sure that nobody slips the net. An' let Teo know how everythin' worked out.” Mags gave her a quick hug and a kiss on the top of her head. “An' this time . . . there weren't no hostages or kidnappin's. I reckon we're improvin'.”

“So we are!” she laughed. “So we are!”
