Many artifacts were also unearthed as Dura slowly revealed its secrets. Among them was a damaged granite plaque that had been inscribed with many different names, the purpose and significance of which left archaeologists baffled. They identified Greek, Gallic, Spanish, Thracian and Dacian names, we well as Parthian monikers. Above the names was a single word in larger, bolder letters:
