“You alright, Stacy? It’s me that’s getting naked. Relax.” I laughed at her and nudged her shoulder. She looked at me with pitiful eyes and pursed her lips. “Come on, it’s fine. I’m not even nervous.” It wasn’t completely true, but I felt I had to show a brave face for Stacy.
Marcus guided me to a studio setup with a red chaise lounge in front of a dappled gray backdrop. Studio lights and cameras already pointed at the setting. Marcus instructed me to pose on the couch. He asked me to do what felt natural, so I leaned on my side and let my foot trail on the ground. My lips parted, and I looked innocently into the camera.
He must have liked what he saw because he started clicking like mad. As he shot, he instructed me how to position my body. I moved into different poses and he clicked away, stopping every once in a while to check his settings or the images on the screen of his digital camera.
After about an hour, Marcus told me I could get dressed, and we’d talk when I got back out. I passed Stacy on the way back to the bathroom; she was staring down at her cell phone. I tapped her arm as I passed and smiled. She smiled back and didn’t seem nervous anymore.
When I came out from the bathroom, I sat with Marcus and Stacy in the sitting area. He looked at me with beaming eyes and a massive, broad smile.
“Well Zoe, you were fantastic. Simply beautiful. I haven’t seen a model with such natural talent in years. Your look is perfect. It’s sexy and innocent at the same time. I want to photograph you all day. I’d love for you to come back tomorrow; we can do a full shoot. Usually, they last about four hours. I have a simple contract for you to sign. It’s just a model release form. Basically, it says you work for hire, and that the image copyright belongs to me. It also stipulates what the images will be used for. It’s standard, but if you want to go over it with a lawyer, that’s fine too.”
“I could look it up on the Internet, I guess. But I’d like to work tomorrow. If that’s alright.”
“Of course. Come back at 7 AM with the contract signed. Don’t wear a bra; they leave marks on your skin. Light makeup and simple hair.”
He handed me a piece of paper and shook my hand. Stacy followed me toward the door. As I turned the handle there was a knock from the other side. I opened it, expecting to find another model standing on the porch.
Instead, there was a slim, tall, totally cute boy a few years older than me. I smiled up at him and he looked away.
“Hi,” I said, stepping onto the porch next to him.
“Zoe, this is Billy Black, my computer technician. He’ll be around sometimes when we shoot. He maintains my databases and website and basically keeps everything running smoothly. Billy, this is Zoe Parker.”
