“I was hoping to tell the man what I thought of him,” he said.

“Me, too,” Boaz replied. “But he's probably dead by now. And, if he isn't, I'd much prefer the Mossad to have a chat with him, rather than anyone who might just want him out of the way. Wouldn't you?”

“I'll get back to you on that,” Doc grunted, then looked over when another armored vehicle appeared from around the corner and through the destroyed gate. Doc glanced back at Jack, but he and Dover were still too involved in their “debriefing” to really notice.

As the other flak-jacketed men secured the location, Boaz and Doc approached the newer, undamaged vehicle just as its side door opened. Inside were three more men Doc recognized from the auto switch they had done in San Francisco all those days ago after Levi Plaza and the Filbert Steps.

But there was a fourth man Doc recognized, sitting behind them, holding a now-empty Cheyenne Tactical M200 Intervention sniper's rifle. Doc knew the weapon well. A special bullet was made just for it—one that would lose no altitude, power, or accuracy from as far away as two miles.

“Colonel Taylor, I presume,” Doc sighed. “Seen the error of your ways, I gather?”

Andrew “Bull's-eye” Taylor's jaw was jutted in defiance. “What I did I did for this country,” he seethed. “No way I was going to let it be attacked.”

“Nice shot,” Doc commented.

Taylor sniffed. “I was the only one who could've done it,” he said, vain visions of immunity dancing in his head.

Doc looked over at Boaz, whose face was the very model of innocence. “Another present personally hand-wrapped by Sol?”

Boaz looked as if he were thinking seriously about it. “Well, maybe not ‘personally.'”

Doc looked over to where Dover and Jack were still clutching each other as if they would never let go. He wondered if Dover would be happy to know that she was the link between Morton and Minsky that allowed the Mossad mobsters to steal Taylor out from under the FBI's noses.

Doc considered informing her of that fact. He even took a step toward her. But then he reconsidered.

Doc Matson headed back to the Gulfstream to let everyone know that disaster was averted as the area began to fill with American military planes, U.S. intelligence helicopters, bomb squad vehicles, and even Lawrence Livermore Lab radiation containment vans.

Dover Griffith and Jack Hatfield didn't seem to care.
