“We’ll figure things out together, Avalyn. I promise you that.”

The air around her grew lighter, and she smiled at Colton.

“So, is that a yes?” he asked.

“It’s a hell yes.”

“That’s my girl.”

“With one condition.”

“Name it.”

“No more secrets between us.”

“Deal, with one addition to that statement.”

“I’m listening.”

“No more family members between us either.”

She chuckled.

“You have yourself a deal. Now let’s eat. I’m starving.”

As they conversed and ate their meal, she felt a slow relief relax the tightened muscles throughout her body. She wasn’t naïve enough to think things were perfect or they’d never butt heads. They had lot of things to smooth out, and they were both too independent and out-spoken to always have smooth sailing. Still, this felt right. He was like the missing piece of a puzzle she hadn’t known she was trying to solve. The discovery had her scared her more than she wanted to admit. If she was honest, it still did. The Voiles had been just as unlucky in love as the Edgeworths since that curse. It was a feeling only time would lessen and eventually disperse.

She swore she felt the necklace around her neck grow warm, almost as if she’d received the final seal of approval from Viola.
Thank you, my friend. I owe you my happiness.

Epilogue

“I’m expecting a wedding announcement any day now,” Betty said.

“Hmph, I don’t know what he’s waiting for. It’s been six months,”Willie replied.

“They wanted to take their time.”

“Young people these days procrastinate too much. Look at us.” He nodded his head toward the one-karat diamond that now adorned the ring finger of her left hand. They’d stunned everyone by eloping a few weeks after Colton and Avalyn reconnected. They moved in into the house he’d raised his son in and never looked back. Every day was a blessing he was thankful for. He’d never thought he’d find love again, and yet here he was. A man in his prime with a beautiful lady on his arm, and if he were lucky, grandchildren would arrive soon.

“We’re older and wiser, honey.”

“You’re right about that. Now if we could only get Randy to get back on the horse and Hunter to stop playing the field.”

Betty laughed. “You have some lofty aspirations.”

“You’re damn straight. I want to bounce some great-grandkids on my knee while I’m still able to.”

“I know the feeling.” Betty let out a wistful sigh as they watched Colton and Avalyn interact across the yard.

“What do you say we give them a little nudge with those witchy powers of yours?”

“We really shouldn’t.”

“Come on; rules were made to be broken. Just a little something to open Hunter’s eyes up a bit.”

“Well…there is a spell for finding love…”

I hope you enjoyed this story as much as I did. The characters really took me on a ride and have much more planned in
the future. Keep an eye out for the next tale in the Edgeworth series. This time it’s Hunter’s turn to find love.
