Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend (4 page)

“I don’t know, but I thought it was an awesome place to come too. I heard of this place from some of my regulars. Which, well, happen to be men I guess, but they said it was more live entertainment than anything else. As you see, the girls aren’t taking off their clothes.”

“Hmm. Yeah, I guess.”

The girls were getting more plastered by each drink, and it was closing in on about two A.M. when we headed out of the lounge. I only had a few drinks, and I could tell Nelly had been drinking more water than anything, so she was sober as we left. Then she took each of us home.

“Thank you so much for an awesome night, Nelly.”

“You’re welcome, girl. You should go out with us more often!”

I didn’t know about that. I really was a loner, but I didn’t want to sound rude so I nodded my head and told her goodnight.

I quietly made my way inside the house and into a long, soaking bath. I was exhausted from the long day and one of the best nights of my life. I felt as if everything was finally going my way. Or at least in the direction I dreamed it to be going. I couldn’t ask for anything better.

Dax

It was finally Friday. It had been a long and exhausting week. Saints and Sinners had one ‘Sinner’ girl get pregnant, so Danny was hosting try-outs this Saturday. Thank God I didn’t have to be there. The last time I went to one of those auditions, it became a little bit crazy. All these women had really come to see me.

Did I mention Danny plastered my face on the audition poster? Oh, and the promise of a date to the new dancer. There was way too many and most of them were bimbos with fake bodies and dyed hair. I hated it. I took the girl out and she was on me like a damn tick. Couldn’t even flick her off of me. Bitch even tried getting in my pants. I said ‘no I don’t think so’ I don’t know how many times. She was begging me so I let her blow me.

Then I took her home. I certainly wasn’t gonna reciprocate. She wasn’t my type. Clingy. Needy. Desperate. I like taking care of the woman’s needs but not with women like that.

Whatever.

Tonight, was all about getting one small, blonde pixie to give me her name and damn it all I was getting her number, too. Ever since last Friday, I hadn’t stopped thinking about her. Wondered what she’s been up to all week. I had been tempted to go back into Chili’s to see her, but I knew that would make me look desperate. I wasn’t a desperate man. Just an excited one.

Anytime I had thought about her, my dick got hard…instantly.

She wasn’t even my normal type, but she set me off like a bottle rocket. Fisted my dick each time I was in the shower like a damn teenage boy who couldn’t control himself. That’s what that little pixie brought out of me. And I didn’t even know her name.

Pathetic.

That would all end tonight though. It was about nine when I pulled up to Chili’s. Again it was packed. She said she started at six, but I wasn’t going to be the eager one. Not my style.

The only spot I found was in the To-Go area and I said fuck it. I was parking anyway. The sign said ’15 minute limit, or vehicle will be crushed and melted’. Weird-ass sign. I hopped out and went inside. Luckily I was able to sit in the same last chair closest to the door. I watched her as she had an about ten drink papers in her line-up. She hadn’t noticed me yet and that was fine. I actually liked watching her. Her heart-shaped ass swayed and her long blonde hair in the pony-tail swung from side to side as she flipped the bottles to mix and pour drinks. I could feel my cock thickening at the sight of her.

The black shirt she wore was actually a regular cotton shirt that molded to her breasts. Well, what I could see from the side. I could only see her profile. What I wouldn’t give to fill my hands with-

“Oh! Hey, Dax!”

Damn woman made me day dream.

“Hey, Blondie.”

“I told you last time. Don’t call me that.”

“Okay. I’ll call you Pixie.”

That made her laugh heartily. “Can’t help you’re so tall.”

I gave her my signature smirk and she walked up to me with a shot glass and the bottle of Crown. Then poured two fingers as before.

“Go ahead and put some ice in it.”

She just looked at me like I just grew two heads.

“What?”

“Dax. Manners.”

Manners? What the fuck?

I just looked at her. Tried waiting her out. Her stare was mischievous and I knew I wouldn’t be able to hold for much longer. I did like staring at her though. I caved after about a minute of our staring match. “Please.”

She nodded and took the glass. Then filled it with ice and gave it back to me. Her breasts bounced a little as she walked the few steps to me. She had such a hot body for someone so tiny. My mouth watered. It wanted her tits to be a snack. I licked my lips and her breath hitched and I could see a subtle outline of her nipples through her bra.

Damn that was the hottest fucking sight I’ve ever seen. They became hard just by me licking my lips.

“Thanks, Pixie. Just what I needed. Are you getting off anytime soon?” My voice got thicker and deeper.

She looked to the other guests and then heard a set of beeps before turning back to me. She laughed and said, “Probably not. It’s busy tonight. It’ll probably be another hour before I get off.”

She turned and grabbed the six papers from the printer. This time last week she had already been cleaning up.

It only took her a few minutes to make the drinks and she was cleaning off the spots next to me as a couple had gotten up and left.

“Can I get a name now? I waited all week. Just like you asked.”

“Yes and you did amazingly well. The suspense didn’t even get to you, did it?”

“Ha. Trust me. Between me and my hand, I either called you Pixie or Blondie.”

“Between you and your hand? What do you mean by that?”

She was actually genuinely curious. Did she not get it? I tilted my head to the side with confusion. That was the only thing I could do. She mimicked me and smiled, shrugging her shoulders.

“Honestly?”

“Uh. Yeah. I think. I don’t get it.”

“Pix, gimme your damn name.” I growled. I wanted it. I didn’t really mind calling her Pixie, but I wanted to know her name. The fact she had no idea what I meant, intrigued me.

“Scarlet! I need a Trop Sun and Presidente Rita please.”

She winked at me, before turning to make the drinks.

“Scarlet.” She turned her head to me, and lifted her eyes slowly before settling on mine. Or it looked that way. It was like she was going in slow motion. I didn’t really need her attention. I wanted to try her name on my lips. Her lips opened a little and her eyes seemed to glaze over as she looked at me.

“Yes?”

I shook my head and kept looking at her. I wanted to keep looking at her. She was a sweet little package. Her smile faltered just a little before she turned and made the drinks. When she heard her name being yelled at, she disappeared. Then brought out fajitas and a steak dinner to one the tables. She came back behind the bar and came up to me. And just like that, she stuck her hand out.

“Scarlet Castle. Nice to meet you, Declan Dax Dixon.”

Instead of shaking her hand though I turned it and kissed the back of her hand. My lips lingered just for a hot second before releasing, and her hand was soft but tinted with liquor. I was tempted to dart my tongue out and lick the back of her hand but that might be too creepy.

Then I heard the chair next to me get pulled out, so I slowly released her and sat back.

“Damn, girl, can anyone kiss that pretty, little hand?”

Scarlet’s faced turned red with shame or embarrassment as she looked at the fuckwads who sat down next me. I turned, grabbed the fucker by his collar and whispered, “What the fuck did you just say?”

“Dax. Please!” Scarlet whispered frantically. Some of the other guests had noticed. Shit. I didn’t want to make her feel any more embarrassed.

“Apologize to her. Now.”

“Wha-what?” the fucker said.

“I am not saying it again. I will break your face. She’s a lady. You speak to her with respect.”

“Declan.”

That got my attention. No one save my mother reprimanded me by using my given name.

“It’s cool, Pix. This guy was just saying sorry.”

“It’s okay. I’m not upset.”

“Well, I’m upset on your behalf, then.”

I looked at her and her eyes were wide with unshed tears. This douchebag hurt her feelings. Something strange crawled up my skin. I didn’t like seeing her upset. And whether she wanted to admit it or not, she was upset. I wanted to drag this guy outside and punch him until he got his ass knocked the fuck out.

I got in the guy’s face, I heard another person asking, ‘Everything okay over here?’ when I whispered, “I will break your fucking face, then the rest of you and trust me, jail time won’t happen to me. Apologize.”

The guy looked at Scarlet, squeaked out a sorry and I shoved him back in his seat. The guy and his friend got up in a hurry and left.

The manager came over and was telling me if I had a problem, I needed to leave right immediately.

“No, Ryland, those other guys made a nasty comment and Dax was just getting them to apologize.”

That placated him enough to just squint his eyes at me before turning to Scarlet. “It’s slow enough now, go ahead and get everything clean, then check with Tony before heading out.” Then he turned, walked away as someone else caught his attention.

Scarlet’s shoulders sunk with relief. She turned back to me, gave me a death glare then started cleaning her area.

What the hell did I do? I was only trying to help, dammit.

I waited around and drank another glass, in which she filled silently and arrantly. I don’t know why she was mad at me. I got the asshole to apologize to her.

When she finished and told the bartender she was leaving, she did the same routine as before. Just this time she snuck out the door quicker than I thought. I laid a few bills down and I had to run to catch up with her.

“Pixie!” She didn’t answer me. She just continued walking to her truck. She was trying to ignore me. That wouldn’t do. No way.

Dammit, I ran up behind her, caught her elbow and got her to stop. “Scarlet. Tell me what I did so wrong. That fucker made a sexual pass at you. Did you want me to just let him?”

“I could have handled it. Instead, you turned all caveman! What the heck was up with that? You don’t know me. I can handle things for myself.”

“Not while I’m there. No man is going to harass you like that. He needed to be taught a lesson. I actually wanted to bash his face in.”

“Whoa. That’s like super freaking scary. I don’t know you, either. You started to scare-

I had to stop her right there. I put my finger up to her lips quickly. “Don’t say that. Please. I would never put you in danger. And don’t ever be scared of me. I wouldn’t hurt you. I know you don’t know me. Maybe we could rectify that. Meet me at IHOP down the street?”

That came out all in one breath. Like I was fucking nervous or something. I didn’t want her scared and I didn’t want to just let her leave without really talking to her. The need I felt to keep her with me, just so I could talk to her confused me. I never felt confused over a woman.

I wanted to know her. Learn her.

Scarlet looked from my black Converse high-tops, over my jeans, and I was unfortunately still packing a hard-on, in which her eyes bulged but continued quickly over my Nickelback concert shirt, before landing on my face. There wasn’t anything I could do about my dick. It sprung to full mast when her eyes landed on it and it throbbed like a headache to get closer to her.

It’s never gotten that happy so quickly before. Looking at her now I knew it was a fifty-fifty shot.

“I’m not going to sleep with you, you know?”

What? My head snapped back and my eyes widened. Maybe she could see the lust in my eyes because that was the only way I knew I could look at her. With desire.

“Oh-kay. How about pancakes?”

She laughed nervously. “Sorry. Yes. Pancakes are fine. I’ll meet you down the road.”

“Yet.”

“Yet what?”

I helped her into the truck and leaned in to secure the seatbelt. Her breasts were right there for my cheeks to touch and I couldn’t help but brush my cheek against one before mumbling a fake, ‘sorry about that’ and backed away.

I winked and said, “Yet is for me to know and for you to guess, Pixie.”

I was excited that she wanted to spend more time with me. Normally I would just go to The Club and pick up a new girl. I needed to do that. Scarlet established she wasn’t going to sleep with me, and maybe I could kill that resolve but for the time being, I should have gotten a new girl. At least for a few weeks.

Just to get over this…obsession.

But hey, since I’m already in the thick of it, why not?

She followed behind me to IHOP and she parked next to me. I got out of the truck and hurried to open her door, and placed my hand at the small of her back and led her inside. When we were seated, instead of sitting across to keep my distance like I usually did when out on a date (not that this is a date. Oh, hell), I made to sit next to her, forcing her to scoot all the way in.

“Hey! Tough guy, there is another side to this booth, you know?”

“Yeah, but this is better for me to stretch my long legs. Is that okay?”

What was this strange feeling coming over me? Asking her if it was okay was not my normal M.O. Shyness? Fuck no. Nervous? No way. Flirty? Eh. Maybe. Antsy? A little bit. I wanted to impress this little sprite of girl.

“So, Scarlet, what do you do when you’re not bartending?”

I did as I said and stretched out my legs and folded my feet on the other cushion, resting my arm on the chair behind her.

“I go to school.”

“Oh God. Pease tell me you’re over eighteen. Shit. No. Please be over twenty-one.”
