Domestic Duet: Domestic Alliance & Asset (40 page)

This was where she belonged, in love with Aroc Farkus.

Epilogue

Two months later…

The bride wore a soft flowing gown in deep wine…

Aroc Farkus stood looking out the window of the banquet hall, the reflection of his wife approaching filling his view.

“Well, Commander, I hear you and my wife’s sister will be working on a new assignment in the hospital?”

Oliver tore his attention away from his niece, Norese, currently eating his moon peach ice cream while perched on his lap. “One of the last shipments came from County General, loaded with dirty syringes. Captain Ryner believes with some training she’ll make a good in-house detective in a few months.”

“If she’s anything like Sadie, she’ll get the job done.”

Sadie moved into his side resting her face on his chest. “We’ve been married for two hours and you’re already back to talking shop.”

“Oliver was telling me about Theresa’s new appointment in the program.”

“I think she’ll be a great Asset, now that she’s finally accepted this as her home.”

“We’ll miss you, Sadie,” Oliver said, a bit sullen.

“With me off planet for the next year coordinating this new program with Ryner and getting Norese ready to begin school, I don’t have time to go back to Earth.”

Oliver turned around as everyone noticed the same thing. Commander Montage…eyes trained on Theresa.

Sadie raised her eyes up and back to Aroc standing behind her, his arms wrapped around her shoulders. “Honey, what did you mean when you said you’d tell me about the oceans later?”

Aroc nuzzled her along her ear, whispering for her ears only, “There’s an entire world beneath the currents, you humans have no idea of. We supply one clean organic source of fuel for one of their vehicles.”

“You’re lying.”

He kissed her head. “It’s run by the tiger shark shifters, protecting the corals around the world.”

“Now you’re just creating stories because I’m gullible where you’re concerned.”

“Would I lie to my wife?”

She turned in his arms placing a hand to his face. “You’re serious. Fish and mammals that can shift into human form, live in the ocean?”

“You must never share this information with anyone. Their future relies on our alliance.”

“This is the committee you want me to sit on, isn’t it?”

“I can’t speak on the behalf of humans that share the waters around the world and they don’t trust them enough to bring one in. I want you to be the spokesperson for the human interest.”

“As long as I get to work alongside you, consider me on the committee.”

Bakta Ron, Sadie Farkus.”

“And you’re my warrior, Aroc Farkus.”
