Dorothy Garlock - [Wyoming Frontier] (45 page)

Trinity, Montana Territory, is a composite of all the ghost towns I have ever visited or read about. I have often wondered why, in each case, the people moved on, leaving so much behind, and what would have happened if some of them had stayed, had dreamed new dreams, and had seen new visions.

The sketch of some of the buildings in my ghost town in the front of this book was made by my daughter-in-law, Jacky Theiss Garlock, a well-known artist here in the Midwest. She depicts them exactly as I imagined them to be.

The people in Trinity are all products of my imagination and I have tried to portray them as I think they would have been at that time. I purposely left the Indians out of this story, for to merely mention them would have not done justice to the part they played in our history.

For those of you who wish to write, my address is: Warner Books, Inc., 666 Fifth Avenue, New York, New York 10103.
