Eternity Factor

For vampires, everything that’s fun is illegal.

Once accepted by society, vampires are now considered unsafe to live among humans, but that doesn’t stop Azza from sneaking out of the Cemetery for a midnight party. Although the penalties are serious, nothing is better than a little intimate action with a hot-blooded human. Azza spots the hunk she wants and one sniff of his blood has her hooked.

Jak Walker is immediately attracted to the pale beauty he meets at a vamp rave. Things get hot and heavy, and when confronted with her true nature, Jak wants more than a one-night stand.

The eternity factor isn’t the only problem confronting the lovers. All the fun stuff is illegal.

Chapter One

“Why do
we
have to dress up?”

Azza glanced at her friend, Reeni. The black leather lace-up bodice emphasized the vamp’s cleavage. Shiny black skin-pants and high-heeled boots displayed Reeni’s long legs. Azza was dressed in a similar costume, but her bodice was blood red and she wore four-inch, red stiletto heels. “
We
need to blend in with the crowd. Thanks to the movie
Vamp Party
, humans are having these raves. The downside is these costumes. They think we actually run around in leather and capes.”

Reeni tugged at the black laces crisscrossing her generous breasts. “
They
would be wrong.”

They hurried along the narrow sidewalk, heading toward a warehouse, the site of tonight’s event. A man in a black, red-lined cape swept past them.

“At least we don’t have to look like that,” Azza said.

“These boots are killing my feet.” Reeni preferred pink flip-flops to high heels.

“Be patient,” Azza said. “We’re almost there. This party is loaded with horny humans and fortunately for us illegal sex with vampires is the current rage.”

“Yeah, they get fined and we’re thrown in jail.”

They had already broken the law by leaving the Cemetery, one of three designated urban vampire zones, after nightfall. The government had passed a slew of restrictive laws to protect the human population. Breaking the law had serious consequences.

“That’s why we can’t get caught, Reeni. Don’t bite anyone.”

“Yeah. Yeah. Getting caught outside will get you restricted. Having sex will get you incarcerated. Taking blood will get you executed. I know the rules.”

Stepping inside the warehouse, Azza took in the scene. Rock music blasted from huge speakers, a band called Red Death played on multi-level scaffolding and gyrating bodies filled the dance floor. Humans were clustered in small groups, some standing at a long bar constructed of planks and others sitting in plastic chairs around folding tables. The raves moved from warehouse to rooftop to private parking lots, set up and break down only taking minutes to prevent the DSA from busting the event. The Dead Souls Agency enforced the vampire laws.

The party was in full swing and the delicious scent of hot blood hung in the air.

“Take a deep breath.”

Reeni hissed and licked her fangs. “Hot human blood on a warm summer night. Smells like satisfaction.”

Azza grabbed Reeni’s forearm. “Remember the rules. No taking of blood. No fucking them to death.”

“I got the message the last two times you told me.”

“As tempting as it is to bite them, control yourself and choose one who has a strong heart.”

Reeni tried to pull her arm away, but Azza held on. “We meet here in four hours. We have to sneak back into the Cemetery before dawn.”

The vampires had modified and reinforced an old rail tunnel beneath the Cemetery, gaining secret access to the human zone.

“Got it.”

“Don’t fuck up.”

“Can I go now?”

Azza released Reeni’s arm. “Have fun.”

After watching Reeni disappear into the gyrating crowd, Azza headed for the bar at the far end of the room to troll for an attractive male. In keeping with the vampire party theme, there wasn’t a mirror in the place. Humans were very accommodating.

Putting on her most inviting smile, Azza moved along the length of a bar constructed of wooden planks. Heads turned as she passed and several men said hello, but Azza had already spotted her quarry. Beer in hand, he stood at the end of the bar. His hair was dark, slightly disheveled, his jaw strong and shadowed with stubble.

He had a rough, raw look about him that appealed to Azza. His shoulders were broad and his tanned arms were sinewy and roped with thick veins. Yum.

The closer Azza got, the better he looked. Dressed in a faded T-shirt and jeans, he was one of the few humans not in costume.

The man glanced her way and their gazes caught. She had him.

Instead of locking onto her, the man broke eye contact, focusing on his beer. His dismissal fueled her desire. Azza liked a challenge.

She slipped into the spot next to the handsome human and took a deep breath. His blood scent was rich, healthy and his pheromones ripe and lusty.

Behind the bar, a female in black shorts and red tank top greeted Azza. “What’s your poison?”

“I’ll have a Bloody Mary.”

The bartender looked at the guy. “Another beer?”

The hunk sat his empty bottle on the bar. “Sure.”

The bartender walked away and Azza gave the hunk her sexiest smile. “Nice party. I’m Azza.”

Bright blue eyes met hers. “Jak. Jak without a c.”

“Hello, Jak without a c.”

He glanced down the bar. A row of costumed men were checking her out. “Why me?”

“I like your costume.”

He laughed, rich and throaty. “I certainly like yours.”

“I wanted something eye-catching.”

“You chose well.”

The bartender brought their drinks.

“I’m buying,” Jak said, pulling his wallet from his back pocket.

Azza waited for the bartender to move away. “Do you attend the vamp raves often?”

He shook his head. “First one. I always thought this building was abandoned.”

“Live in the neighborhood?”

“Couple blocks away.”

Jak tipped back the bottle, his throat working enticingly as he drank.

Azza glanced at his left hand, noting the bare third finger. “No girlfriend waiting for you?”

“No.” His smile reached his eyes. “Are you into the vampire thing?”

“The raves are fun.” Azza picked up her drink and pretended to suck on the straw. “Just an excuse to let loose, have a little fun, wear sexy clothes.”

His gaze slid down to her half-exposed breasts. “I like the look. Do these raves go all night?”

“Everything is over by sunrise, but I’m just partying for a few hours. Gotta work tomorrow.”

“What do you do for a living?”

Azza worked in the nutrition bank as a quality control technician, inspecting the blood the government supplied to the inhabitants of the Cemetery. She gave her rehearsed answer. “Computer tech, but let’s not talk about work. Let’s talk about what you’re doing after you finish that beer.”

“I was going home.”

“Alone?”

“Not if I get lucky.”

A vampire required an invitation to enter a human’s home. “Are you inviting me back to your place?”

“I am.”

“Well, Jak, you just got very lucky.”

Chapter Two

Every once in a while the gods smiled on Jak Walker and tonight he’d hit the jackpot. Azza was gorgeous. She had the face of a goddess, curves that would tempt a saint and legs that wouldn’t quit. Her long, dark hair fell to her waist and her violet eyes were filled with mischief.

Jak held out his hand.

Her hand was slender and her fingers were cool to the touch.

As they walked out onto the street Jak wondered if picking up a stranger was a good idea. He’d recently come to the city from a small rural town looking for work. He didn’t know a thing about Azza. Did she pick up guys on a regular basis? Would she ask for payment once his pants were down?

As if knowing he was questioning his decision, Azza cupped his chin and kissed him, the gentle brush of her lips brief, but enticing as the perfume she wore.

How long had it been since he had a relationship longer than one or two nights? Six months at least and not one of the women had excited him as much as Azza. Desire burning low and deep, Jak slid his arm around her waist. He’d be a fool to pass up the opportunity. He’d have to trust his instincts.

“My building is just two blocks over. My apartment is above a boarded-up paint store. Most of the businesses have closed down, but the area is reasonably safe.”

Jak wished his place was nice enough to impress a woman like Azza, but times were tough. Since the urban wars a quarter century ago, the economy had remained in the tank. Tomorrow, he had an appointment with a government placement officer. Maybe meeting Azza meant his luck was about to change.

He unlocked the street level door and stepped into the tiny foyer leading to a narrow staircase. He glanced at her heels. “Sorry, my place is three flights up.”

“No problem.” When they reached his door, Azza leaned into him, pressing her belly against his hip. She slipped a hand beneath his shirt. “Your heart is pounding.”

It wasn’t the stairs that were making his heart jump out of his chest. “You excite me.”

She pressed her lips against his neck. Her lips were cool, but he was running hot. She licked his skin.

His heart racing, he unlocked the deadbolt. Inside his dark apartment, Jak pulled Azza into his arms and kissed her.

Bracing his weight against the door, he held her flush against him. Her breasts were round and firm and her belly was pressed invitingly to his groin.

His blood thundered in his ears, roaring through his veins.

Stone hard, he cupped her leather-clad ass. Azza responded with a slow grind of her hips.

She grasped his shirt, her pointed nails scraping over his skin as she shoved it upwards.

He yanked off the shirt and yelped when she nipped him above his right nipple. She licked her way up to his neck and suckled.

Jak knew he’d have a mark on his neck come tomorrow, but damn it felt good. He didn’t have to coax or seduce. Azza was ready, willing and attacking the buckle of his belt. Within seconds, his zipper was down and his cock was in her hand.

She palmed him, stroking him with slender fingers. He was so damn hard he hurt.

The definition of lucky changed when she slid to her knees. Her tongue snaked over him, tracing the throbbing veins on his cock, driving him wild.

“That feels so good. Suck me, hard.”

Her mouth encircled him, tugging on his needy flesh. She palmed his balls, gently kneading. Damn, she knew what to do with her mouth, tongue and fingers.

On the edge of climax, Jak grabbed a handful of her silky hair and warned her of the inevitable. “I’m gonna come.”

Instead of releasing him, she took him deeper and sucked him harder.

Chapter Three

His hot blood coursed against Azza’s lips and tongue, torturing her vampire senses. He was big and hard with lush, blood-filled veins lacing his cock. Azza licked and sucked, loving every inch of his heated flesh.

Jak gasped and his body jerked. Then he spilled into her mouth.

Azza swallowed, released him and licked her lips. She loved the taste of lusty male. Her tongue slid over her fangs. There was only one thing she liked better, rich, tangy blood. Damn, she wanted to bite him and suck him dry.
