Sydney pushed his shirt off his broad shoulders and made short order of taking off the remainder of his clothing. Already his cock was hard and ready for her. She licked her suddenly dry lips again. Her body tightened in anticipation of having his dick inside of her, but first, she intended to explore every inch of him.

She flicked the flat disk of his nipple with her tongue, savoring the taste of him.

Giving Jack pleasure was as much of a turn on to her as receiving it because it filled her with a sense of empowerment that she could turn this massive man into a quivering

heap. She could tell Jack was attempting to keep still by his gritted teeth and the way he clenched his hands into fists.

Deciding to turn up the heat, Sydney moved down the length of his body, creating a trail of moisture with her tongue and not stopping until she reached the wiry patch of hair between his thighs. Dear heavens he was huge. No matter how many times they screwed, the size of his member never ceased to amaze her. She ran her fingertip along his shaft and circled the satiny head.

“Sydney,” he groaned. “Don’t tease me.”

She raised her head to meet his gaze. “Weren’t you the one who wanted me to tease you? I’m simply giving you what you want.”

“You’re going to be the death of me, woman.”

“Only the good kind, I hope.”

“The best.”

She wrapped her fingers around the base of his cock, and ran her tongue along its length before circling the helmet-shaped head. The slightly salty, musky, and tangy flavor of him tinged her taste buds, making her want more. With a deep moan from the back of her throat, Sydney took his shaft into her mouth, deliberately swallowing him an inch at a time, not stopping until the head hit the back of her throat. Tightening her lips around the turgid rod, she pulled her head up, creating as much friction as possible.

Jack cried out and clasped his hands on the sides of her head, guiding her up and down on his cock. “Sydney, that feels so damn good.” It thrilled her to hear him compliment her. Fire shot through her body as she continued on. She’d never enjoyed this particular act as much as she did with Jack. It was yet another thing that set him apart from other men. Not only was he capable of drawing such passionately tumultuous responses from her, but he created within her the need to give pleasure.

Jack thrust his hips up, pushing his cock deeper into her throat, going so deep he was completely in her mouth. He lowered himself and repeated the motion, matching the rhythm she’d set.

With her free hand, Sydney fingered her clit, turned on by the throaty groans tumbling from his lips. She worked herself into a frenzy, rubbing the hot little nubbin in circular motions. Sydney sensed he was close to coming because his breath soon burst from his lungs in short huffs. Increasing the pace, she bobbed up and down on his dick.

“Sydney! I’m going to come.”

His declaration didn’t slow her down. Instead she sucked harder and faster still.

Jack stiffened and came in her mouth. Sydney took in as much of his essence as she could. Only when she was sure Jack was finished did she lift her head and place a kiss against his semi-erect cock.

“Come here,” he moaned, slipping his hands beneath her armpits and hauling her against him. Jack cupped the back of her head and guided it until her lips touched his. Their tongues met, dancing, swirling around and tasting each other. Sydney lifted her head after a moment to catch her breath. “Did you like that?”

“Do you even have to ask?”

Something hard pressed against her stomach. “Don’t tell me you’re hard again.” Jack smirked. “Okay. I won’t tell you.”

“Hmm, I think I know how to take care of it.”

Jack chuckled. “I was hoping you’d say that.”

Sydney straddled his hips and took his cock in her fist before guiding it into her slick channel. Her pussy was wet and she was eager to have him inside of her again.

Placing one hand against his rock solid abdomen to steady herself, she gently inserted his member into her cunt. Slowly, Sydney lowered herself until she was stuffed with every delicious inch of him. A sigh of relief escaped her lips at the decadent sensation of being filled by his dick.

Simply wanting to savor the feel of him, Sydney didn’t move for a few moments.

Jack, however, was not prepared to be patient. Placing his hands on her hips, he forced her to move with him. “I can’t get enough of you, baby.” An incendiary heat sizzled along her body like a fuse to a bomb which was ready to explode inside of her. It was so intense she couldn’t think beyond the sensations raging through her body. She arched her back and braced herself on his muscular thighs as she bounced up and down on his cock.

They moved, thrust, and strained against each other, moving closer to her peak.

Sweat rolled down her face and beaded on her body as the fire they created together burned hotter by the second. Her orgasm started as a tingling between her legs and then spread through her entire body in a violent wave. “Yes!” The scream tore from her throat uncensored. Jack continued to thrust in and out of her with powerful shoves for several more minutes before he shot his seed into her tight passage.

Once he released her hips, she collapsed on top of him, her breathing ragged.

“Did that just happen?” she whispered tiredly.

“Pretty amazing, wasn’t it?”

Sydney nodded, too exhausted to continue speaking. She rested her head against his chest.

“Are you sure you want to give this up temporarily?” After what they’d just shared, it would be hard to simply quit Jack cold turkey.

But her earlier resolve returned. Sydney needed to know what they had was the real thing, without sex hovering over their heads. In the long run she was sure they’d both appreciate this decision.

“Yes. It’s the only way we can be sure this thing between us is going to work.” She swallowed the lump that had formed in her throat. “I think it would be best if you went back to your room now.”

His eye narrowed and his arms tightened around her. “No way. I may have agreed to this ridiculous plan of yours, but you’ve already conceded the night and it’s far from over.” He rolled on top of her and covered Sydney’s mouth with his.

Chapter Two

“In five days, we’ll invade the city,” Jack announced once everyone in the room was in agreement to a plan. Cheers and shouts rang through the room as the rowdy mob voiced their support.

The meeting with the other rebel groups seemed to be a success. Out of the twelve leaders who’d shown up, only a couple were hesitant to fight, but once they’d realized there was no other way, given what they’d learned about the Cyrellians, they too had agreed.

War was never a pretty thing. It was the reason Earth had basically been destroyed the first time around when countries used nuclear weapons to decide their issues, leaving it a barren wasteland with few survivors. The Cyrellians had used that to their advantage, but now it was time to take action.

He waited for the revelry to die down before speaking again. “The first part of our plan involves a team of three going into the city and uploading those pictures we have on the central computer and sending them to every single person. Once that task is complete, we’re going to send two teams of at least twelve, and another of about fifteen, in to blow up three of their main operations, Cryo Cor, the mental institution, and the waste management center. We’ll need that many people to complete the actual mission and provide backup for one another. Chase has already put a pretty big hole in the wall in the mental institution, but the tricky part with that operation will be getting all the humans out of the building, which is why that particular job will take the most manpower. The other two jobs could be done at night. All the humans should be gone for the night at Cryo Cor and none work at the waste management center.” Holly raised her hand.

Jack nodded his head, giving her the okay to speak. “Yes?”

17

“What if there are bodies there as well? I witnessed them loading unconscious people onto a ship. It’s probably how they were able to ship Bella off.”

“We’ll have to cross that bridge when we get to it. Unfortunately there may be casualties along the way, and while we don’t want to risk the lives of any humans, we may have no choice but to continue on with our plan.” Holly shook her head. “If there’s a way to save them, why can’t we at least try?

These people most likely have loved ones who are worried about them. I’m sure they’d be disappointed to know the people they cared about were expendable.” She crossed her arms over her chest.

There were a few murmurs of agreement within the crowd, and Jack released a frustrated groan. He scanned the audience for some sign of support. Chase gave him a sympathetic look and mouthed the word “sorry.” Jack knew he’d get no help on that end. He doubted Chase would go against his lover’s wishes.

Jack raked his hand through his hair and released a frustrated sigh. “Once the team is formed for that particular mission, they can decide on the logistics, how about that?” he offered as a compromise.

The redhead seemed to be thinking over his proposal for a moment, tapping her finger against her chin before slowly nodding. “Okay. I’ll go for that, as long as I can be on that team.”

“Absolutely not!” Chase spoke up.

“Why not? Aren’t I a member of this group? You seriously can’t expect me to stay behind when everyone else will be in the thick of the act,” she countered.

Chase shook his head. “It’s too dangerous.”

Jack noticed people shifting in their chairs uncomfortably. “You two will have to work that out for yourselves, but now isn’t the time for bickering. In the meantime, I’ll be heading up the Cryo Cor mission along with Bennett. We’ll be meeting in two hours in the library to discuss strategy so if you’re interested in joining our team then I’ll see you there. Chase and Victor have agreed to lead the charge for the mental institution and they’ll be meeting in this room. Darrien and Blaine will take charge of the waste

18

management center project. Anyone interested in joining their team can meet them in the west wing. Are there any more questions?”

A few people raised their hands and for the next several minutes, Jack answered everything thrown at him to the best of his ability. Once there were no more questions, he moved on to the next topic. “When our plans have been implemented, we’ll move on the next phase. A full-blown attack will be launched against the headquarters and their homes. By then, we may have more allies within the city walls who are willing to fight with us. If no one has anything else to add, I’m going to bring this meeting to a close.” Jack was relieved when there were no additional comments. His head was beginning to throb from the mounting tension building up in the back of his neck. It had been difficult to concentrate with Sydney standing at the back of the room looking like the epitome of every single one of his boyhood wet dreams.

He still marveled at how gorgeous she was. Her beauty wasn’t the subtle kind that grew on a man. Instead it was the type that hit one head on, from her large, expressive dark eyes, high cheekbones, full bow shaped lips, to the most gorgeous dark brown skin he’d ever seen. Jack never thought something so simple as skin color could be such a turn on to him, but whenever he touched her, he marveled at the contrast of his flesh against hers. His cock stirred just thinking about it. The short tight curls she wore her hair in accentuated her fine bone structure.

Tall and willowy, she still possessed curves in all the right places, flaunting her femininity to all who saw her. Currently she wore a white tank top which showed off the gentle swell of her breasts, and a pair of black jeans that clung like a second skin. It had taken every ounce of his willpower not to turn his attention toward her during the meeting, but he forced himself not to.

But the meeting was finally over and he could… What? He couldn’t take her upstairs and fuck her senseless as he wanted to do. Hell, he wasn’t sure if he could even kiss her because that would surely lead to other things. Why had he agreed to that stupid bargain? It annoyed the hell out of him that she would deny him what they both wanted. Last night had been explosive. They’d gone at it through the wee hours of the

19

morning, only resting for half hour increments before falling into each other’s arms again.

Jack was surprised he wasn’t sleepy this morning and was able to get through the meeting without yawning even once. Sydney seemed alert as well, which made him wonder if she was suffering as much as he was. It had been torture leaving her bed earlier.

When he would have walked over to her, he was halted by Bennett, the leader of another rebel group who’d joined forces with his. Jack had conversed with Bennett at length and found they ran their groups similarly which was why he’d chosen him to co-lead a team along with him for the mission.

“That was a good meeting you put together, Jack. I think it was a great idea to join forces. We should have thought of it sooner.”

“I agree. I wish the groups had been able to settle their differences sooner, but better late than never.” Jack shrugged.

“You’re right. I think a couple leaders of the more extreme groups would like to take more drastic measures. They’d like to blow up more buildings.”

“I know, but as I told them before, we’re going to need to conserve some of our weapons for when we attack.” Jack didn’t mind talking strategy, but more than anything, he wanted to talk to Sydney, who seemed to be engrossed in conversation with her friend Bella, and Dar, the gold alien who’d rescued her.

Bennett continued to speak, but Jack couldn’t tear his gaze away from Sydney.

She looked lovely today. But then again, she did every day.

Bennett waved his hand in Jack’s face. “Hello?”

Jack managed to turn away from the threesome. “Huh? I’m sorry. What were you saying?”

“You mentioned something about lunch after this meeting. Should we head up?”

“Uh, yeah, sure, but there’s someone I’d like to talk to first.” A smile spread across Bennett’s face. “Were you looking at the black one? I noticed her too. I wouldn’t mind having a go at her.”

20

Jack didn’t like the casual way in which he referred to Sydney. “Her name is Sydney,” he said through gritted teeth.

Bennett frowned, before comprehension seemed to light his face. “I didn’t realize it was like that. My apologies.”

“It’s okay. If you don’t mind, can we talk later? After lunch maybe?” Bennett nodded. “Sure thing.”

Not bothering to reply, Jack turned on his heel and walked toward Sydney and joined her small group.

When Bella saw him, she said something to her lover in his language before greeting him. “Hi, Jack. I’m sure you probably want to speak to Sydney alone.” She grabbed Dar’s hand and led him off.

Sydney shifted on her feet, looking slightly uncomfortable. “My friends aren’t known for their subtlety.”

“I’ve noticed.” He wasn’t sure what to say to her beyond the fact he wanted to take her upstairs to bed, but he knew he must exert some self-control. These next few weeks were going to be harder than he thought.

“Shouldn’t we join the others upstairs and get something to eat?”

“I’m not really that hungry.”

“Neither am I. I was actually thinking of taking a walk.”

“If you don’t mind my company, I’d like to join you.” She nibbled on her bottom lip as if debating whether she wanted him to go with her, but finally she nodded. “Thank you. I’d like that.” Jack followed her outside, neither one of them speaking for several moments. It seemed as though Sydney was content to enjoy the silence, but he figured they couldn’t learn about one another if they didn’t speak. “What are you thinking?” She didn’t reply right away and for a moment he didn’t think she would, but finally she released a deep breath. “I’m just thinking of how much my life has changed in such a short period of time. You never realize the many conveniences in life you take for granted until they’re gone. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining, but I kind of

21

miss being in control of my own destiny, knowing exactly what I want out of life. Now everything is out of sync and it’s hard for me to deal with.”

“I understand how you feel. I believed I had everything figured out myself, until I made the discovery about the Cyrellians. It took me a while to come to terms with the fact I’d never be able to go back to my old life, but I realized I’d rather live like this than live a lie. When I think of how many people are out there right now, actually knowing what those bastards are up to, but too scared to do anything about it because they don’t want to lose their cushy lifestyles, it makes me shudder. The pretense would drive me crazy.”

“You’re right. After a while, I think I wouldn’t be able to handle it either. It almost makes you feel sorry for the ones who do. At least Holly and Bella are here with me. I don’t think I’d be able to cope without them.” Jack knew it was silly of him, but her statement stung a bit. Sydney had every right to be happy she had two other people to lean on when most people who chose this life had no one. But he wanted to be that person for her. Quickly, he swallowed the wave of resentment. He’d have to bide his time and take things slowly although this was frustrating as hell.

“I know what you mean. I don’t know what I would do if Chase weren’t here with me.”

“Are you scared? About what’s going to happen to us all, I mean. I’m pretty sure the Cyrellians will have their own arsenal for us to contend with.”

“I know, which is why we’re attacking their main operations. As I said at our meeting, our spies tell us they’re probably hiding weapons there. If we deplete some of their firepower it may give us the advantage we need to defeat them.”

“Makes sense. I’d like to join your team for the mission.” This announcement took him by surprise. Halting in mid-stride he turned to face her. “You can’t be serious.”

Her brows knitted together into a frown. “I’ve never been more serious about anything in my life. I want to go with you. And I hope you won’t try to stop me.”

22

“But there are other ways for you to help out the cause. We’ll need people to man the base while we set out.”

“And what do you propose I do all day, twiddle my thumbs and wait for you guys to come home? If you haven’t forgotten, I used to work at Cryo Cor. It makes me sick to my stomach to think of what they did to everyone. I could have easily ended up as one of those people I left behind. They were sick, but didn’t even know it.”

“But you’re not one of them.”

Sydney placed her hand on his arm. “You’re missing my point, Jack. I put my faith in that company, not knowing what they were up to and certainly not realizing how they were slowly killing us off. The co-workers I’ve left behind are still there, some of them still none the wiser about what’s happening around them. I owe it to them to go back. I can’t stay here knowing there’s something I can do to help.”

“How do you expect me to lead effectively if I constantly have to look out for you?”

She rolled her eyes and snorted. “Now you’re starting to sound like Chase.” Jack grabbed her by the forearms and pulled her against him. “Is it so wrong to care about you? Should I not worry about what happens to you? Maybe you can turn your emotions off and on like that, but I can’t.”

“Jack, I’m perfectly capable of taking care of myself. Besides, I won’t be alone.

We’ll be going as a group. Isn’t there strength in numbers?”

“Maybe so, but I’d feel better if you were out of harm’s way.” Sydney shook her head. “I’m sorry, but I’m not going to allow you to dictate to me because your protective instinct has kicked in. I’ve been taking care of myself for a very long time, and I’d appreciate it if you’d treat me as you would any other person in the group.”

“You’re asking for the impossible.”

“Why? Aren’t I a member of this group?”

“Yes, but you mean so much more to me than anyone else, and you know it.”

“Jack, don’t. You agreed --”

23

“Yes, I agreed to no sex, but I said nothing about denying my feelings for you. I thought long and hard about you after I left your room this morning and I think I’m in love with you.”
