Fang Chronicles: Zenya's Story (34 page)

“It might take you hundreds of tries to get it right again.”

“The Terrible is only six months old.”

“And your point?”

“I really need to work on my wall sex.”

To Be Continued…

Dear Reader,

If you’re screaming over the sudden end to Zenya’s Story please be assured the Northeast Clan has more adventure ahead. I also added characters in this book that are begging for their own story. I plan to bring Emily and Brandt back for a major battle with Raykon and his evil vampire leader Amelia.

Before I begin writing a book, I have a general outline in my head. Once typing begins and the story takes shape, I’m forced to go where my characters lead me. The violence in Zenya’s Story advanced with a mind of its own whether I wanted to go there or not. It reminded me that war is never pretty. With my hands subconsciously dripping blood by the end of the book, I decided to take a humorous break from death and destruction. You’ll find the first chapter of Mandy’s Story and her battle of wits with Honey after these acknowledgments. Fang Chronicles: Mandy’s Story is due out fall 2013.

Spring 2014 will be the next installment of Fang Chronicles when the beastkind war continues. And just so everyone knows, I haven’t forgotten about Ivan. I’m waiting for that special woman to spark his interest and help him finally get past the death of his mate Alba.

I’m very proud to announce that Book I, Amy’s Story is now available in paperback at Amazon and B&N. I have the proof copy of Emily’s Story and hopefully it will be out in paperback soon.

So many people are part of my writing team. Thanks to Brittany for being a wonderful personal assistant, and keeping Twitter and Facebook up to date while I wrote Zenya’s Story. You cleared my path, so when I wasn’t working my fulltime day job, I concentrated on writing.

A special thanks to my daughter Mechelle and her inspirational co-workers who relayed their eagerness for this installment of Fang Chronicles. You helped me focus.

My new editor Michelle Kowalski is a dream to work with. You made this book so much better with your gentle suggestions and refusing to show your frustration over my mistaken spelling of Doctor Stevens name as “Stevans” and “Stephans” throughout the story. I look forward to working with you again soon. All mistakes are my own but you have cut those drastically and I thank you.

The cover is once more the special artistic ability of Fantasia Frog Designs. I’ll be sending you the bear and wolf cover request soon.

Reader emails and Facebook messages add joy to writing and encourage me to keep going even when I’m incredibly tired. Thank you for taking the time to let me know you enjoy my work. Sally, Lisa, Melanie, Hong, Elizabeth, Marcia, Tonia, Cristina, and Olga—you are awesome!

Brittany sends all personal inquires directly my way and I answer them myself. Inspiration comes in many forms but my favorite is someone who takes the time to write a review or let me know they enjoy my work. Don’t hesitate to contact me with questions or just to say hello. Fang Chronicles: Mandy’s Story

Chapter One (unedited)

Squinting into the partial light, Honey’s eyes opened slowly. Mandy sat on the other side of the bars staring at him, clicking her fingernails, and trying to appear calm by plastering a bored look on her face. He shook his head, sweeping the too long brown hair from his eyes, trying to clear the fog from his brain. Pain—deadly daggers running through his head, made his eyes narrow even more. And for some reason, his left leg throbbed to the beat of his headache. He didn’t dare take his eyes off the she-wolf. “What the fuck have you done?”

Her lips compressed, on her much too cute, pixy face, “I don’t think that’s any way to speak to your mate and I don’t like your language.” She admonished gently.

The words didn’t quite sink into his pounding skull. He looked around his prison. The bars of a feral cage met his gaze and with another shake of his head he realized it was the one delivered to Brandt and Emily’s home—Brandt and Emily, alphas of the northeast pack, and relatives to the smug she-wolf siting outside the iron walls of his prison.

The cage, about five foot high and six by four foot in diameter, rested inside a large covered truck.
Were Brandt and Emily part of this?
He didn’t feel good, his stomach tumbled in a nauseous swirl, and it slowly dawned on him that he’d been drugged. Over the pain, the queasiness, and his anger, he looked at Mandy and rasped, “I’m giving you to the count of three before I shift and tear this cage apart.”

She stopped clicking her fingernails and her green eyes looked at the bars and then back at him. “Hmm. It might hurt but go ahead and give it a try.”

A loud growl rumbled from his chest, “One…”

“I’m not a child and the number counting thing is ridiculous.”

Nine hundred pounds of grizzly bear exploded inside the steel bars. Tuffs of fur stuck out between the solid three inch slats of metal leaving no room for movement. He pushed his weight against the steel, and when nothing gave so much as an inch, he went completely wild which did exactly... nothing.

When his struggling slowed she gave him her bored look again. “Are you finished throwing your temper tantrum?”

He shifted to human, his black eyes drilling her with anger. “I will kill you.” White foam literally ran from the corners of his mouth.

“I didn’t think it possible to kill your mate but that’s wolf rules. The only bears I’ve been around are you and Korep. I’m sorry about his death.” Her voice softened with sorrow.

His rage didn’t. “You are insane. Do not speak of my brother. Where is Brandt? I insist upon speaking with him.”

She shrugged her shoulders, “Well that could prove difficult. It wasn’t easy to sneak you away and I’m sure they’re combing the mountain for us.”

“What?” He said on a roar.

She blinked slowly, her long thick lashes sweeping down then up, her green eyes sparkling with a touch of ire as she berated him with words, “You wouldn’t look at me, much less speak to me, so I took matters into my own hands. You are my mate and I’m tired of waiting for you to realize it.”

Her meaning finally penetrated his sluggish thoughts. “You shall wait until hell freezes over.”

“That’s wonderful because I don’t believe in hell. It would be easier if we could just get the deed done.”

He ground out his next words slowly because he realized he was speaking to an imbecile. “Get. What. Deed. Done?”

“Our mating. I believe you will be much happier with a regular dose of sexual activity.”

He threw his head backwards into the bars. It hurt but when he opened his eyes, she still sat before him; unfortunately separated by the steel he was unable to escape. His clothes lay in tatters. He didn’t usually care about nakedness but her eyes, looking possessively over his body, caused an undesired effect. He took a long steady breath slowing his heartbeat and containing his temper. “You do realize when I’m out of here, I’ll be putting you over my knee, and reddening your human ass, don’t you?”

“Well, I’m not really into that kind of kinky play but I’m willing to try anything once.”

He stared at her silently for thirty-seconds and then his bear exploded. Again.

His roar echoed off the inside walls of the truck and when he calmed, he noticed her small delicate hands covered her ears.

He shifted—his body, his thought process, and his demeanor. “You are too young for me.” It was almost a gentle coaxing.

“That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Emily was younger than I when she mated Brandt.”

“The rules guide us for a reason.”

She stubbornly shook her head. “And it’s a stupid reason.”

He switched tactics, “Brandt and Emily will kill me if I touch you.”

“That worries me too. They never seem to see reason when it comes to me and men.”

“It worries you?” His voice rose.

“We’ll need to come up with a plan to head them off. Me, being with child, might do the trick. Since Nicolas’s sperm created a child in Zenya, everyone is wondering which species can cross breed.”

He blinked and then ran his hands through his hair while letting go of his patience, “You’re a complete dimwit.”

Her fingernails clicked again but her voice remained calm, “Calling me names won’t help.”

He let out a deep breath. “And just what will help?”

“Accepting me as your mate and claiming me with sex. I’m hoping we can try the spanking thing a little later on in our bedroom activity.”

He closed his eyes, opened them, and quickly closed them again. If he wanted to maintain any control at all, he couldn’t look at her. “You can’t possibly think to keep me in this cage that long?”

“Well, that wounds me. I know I’m not a raving beauty but I have nice breasts and my butt seems to get male attention though I think it’s too large.”

He still didn’t open his eyes but the picture she presented caused his body to tighten. “I repeat. You can’t keep me that long.”

“I think I can.”

He tried common sense. “What happens when I need to take a piss or something along those lines?”

“I’ve taken that into consideration. While you were unconscious I bought a urine bottle and bags to dispose of your other waste.”

His eyes popped open and his voice roared with his next words, “I. Will. Kill. You.”

“You’ve used that threat and it has no effect. I know you probably need some aspirin for your headache and I might have caused damage to your leg. It wasn’t easy to get you inside there. Sorry about that.”

His teeth gritted almost to the point of breaking, causing blinding pain to streak from ear to ear. He held onto his human form by a thread and it hurt to talk. “How did you manage to get me into the cage?”

“It was harder than you think but I’m stronger than I look.”
Click, click, click.

“It’s your mind that’s weak.” He managed to get out with a semblance of control.

Her eyes narrowed in challenge. “Well if that’s true… why are you in there and I’m out here?”

She covered her ears when he exploded—again.
