I
nitially I had no idea that
For
Such
a
Time
, from its conception until the final pages of editing, would be such a personal and spiritual journey for me. My “coming home” story. And no pilgrimage reaches its proper end without a guide—first and foremost, God, with His infinite wisdom and patience in finally convincing this wretched soul to follow the right path.

My family—my husband, John, who never stopped believing; my son, Johnny, whose precious “together time” I compromised more than once while typing away for hours; my mom, Marjorie, my brothers, Michael and Matthew, dear sisters-in-law, Debbie and Terri, and my extended clan, Bill, Carolyn, and Linda—their incredible love and support kept me going along the way, especially those times when the road seemed more full of ruts than not. And to my two darling nieces, my nephew, and my grandson—thank you for reminding me to see life through a child’s eyes, that with wonder and imagination anything is possible.

My dear friends Bill McKenna, Bonnie Ballew, Dotty Sohl (rest in peace), Ramona Nelson, Sandi Hill, and Sheila McKenna—it was your honesty and generosity of time as proofreaders that
helped me to polish this body of work. And Robert Rabe, for lending your expertise of German, all I can say is Danke!

To my sisterhood of writers and critique partners—Anjali Banerjee, Debbie Macomber, Elsa Watson, Janine Donoho, Krysteen Seelen, Lois Dyer, Patty Jough Haan, Rose Marie Harris, Susan Wiggs, Susan Plunkett, and Sheila Roberts—all of you, my invaluable comrades; I am humbled by your selfless contributions, and your endorsements are testament to an unwavering conviction that I would eventually reach my destination.

Finally, to Linda S. Glaz, Hartline agent extraordinaire, and to my wonderful editor, Raela Schoenherr, and all those at Bethany House—you helped to make this author’s dream come true. I thank you all, most affectionately.

“We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28).
