Her bra disappeared into the darkness, and then they fell onto the bed. He didn’t hesitate; her arousal had reached his senses and he wanted to plunge deep inside her. She spread her thighs, encouraging him. Guiding himself into her, the warmness of her sex enveloped him. As he lunged deeper, she became the centre of his universe, the thing that grounded him and made him feel complete.

She sighed contentedly as he thrust forward but he didn’t want to settle for content, he wanted her to cry out his name as she came around him.

His hand cupped her breast, his mouth latching on to her nipple and sucking it hard. She writhed under him, the tension in her body telling him how excited she was. Her fingers now stroked his back, a sharp thrust into her making her dig her nails into his skin.

Spurred on, he took her hard and fast, his mouth on her breasts, while he moved his left hand down over her thigh until it reached her knee, Hooking her leg up, he spread her wider, thrusting deeper, his body stimulating her clit until she moaned with pleasure.

Harder, long lunges out of her and then deep, so deep he was buried to the hilt. But she took him inside completely, the two of them fitting together perfectly as he drove her to the edge of the abyss, and as she came around him, they both fell together.

Her voice was high; a desperate cry of ecstasy, and then his joined her, his seed spurting deep inside her as he cried out and told her he loved her. And he meant it. Now she was here, their lives could begin anew. Instead of two separate people, they were one. In this moment, they were joined, made complete by the mating bond.

Chapter Twenty-Three – Mia

“Wake up,” she said urgently, shaking Joel awake.

“What?” he asked, sitting up but looking groggy. “What’s wrong?”

“Look outside,” she said shoving him towards the window.

Joel dragged himself out of bed. “What, there’s nothing there.” He turned and looked at her, confused.

“Yes, there is,” she said, coming to stand next to him. “I saw it.”

“Saw what?” He turned back to look outside. “What did you see?”

“This beautiful morning.” She threw her hands out wide, and then laughed when he looked at her as if she were mad.

“Are you crazy?”

“Yes. Come on. I want you to take me up into the mountain; you know when we said about swimming by the waterfall?”

Joel shook his head. “I didn’t know wolves were so … exuberant in the mornings.”

Mia laughed again. “Get used to it. I want to enjoy myself; it’s so good to be free.”

“You are not free,” he said pulling her into his arms and kissing her. “You are mine. And I don’t intend to ever let you go.”

“In that case, you big old bear, let’s go.” Slipping away from him, she went to retrieve her clothes. She dressed quickly and then waited impatiently while Joel shrugged his clothes on.

“You know we could have just gone out naked.” He smiled wickedly at her.

“Someone might see. Or are you more open about being
different
here in Bear Creek?”

“No. But there is a trail that goes up into the woods right behind the building. Sometimes, after too much liquor, an accident might happen and the animal takes over. So we just shove them out into the woods.”

“Nice.”

“Very nice. And right now I know how they feel, because my bear is itching to run with your wolf.”

“Then let’s go,” she said, taking his hand, and propelling him out of the bedroom.

He grabbed some snacks, complaining he was the kind of bear who appreciated a good breakfast, yet in his eyes, she could see how much he wanted to free his bear.

At last they made their way to the trail. He was right, it was so close to the hangout, you could almost go unnoticed up into the woods and then up into the mountain. They didn’t have to follow the trail too far before it changed to an animal track.

“Here?” she asked.

“Yes.” He came to her and kissed her once more, before pulling away. “This is probably the second best way to start the day.”

“What’s the first? Coffee?” she asked innocently.

“No, Mia, you know what it is. To wake up in the morning with your mate beside you, opening your eyes to see her there, to know that she is yours.” He growled, a deep rumbling in his chest. “We need to go, or else I’ll be dragging you back to bed so that I can make love to you again. I am addicted to you, Mia.”

Smiling, she released her wolf, shimmering as she changed, enjoying the way he made her feel. Loved for who she was. He knew pretty much everything he needed to know about her, down to her ability to hold her own in a fistfight, and he still wanted her.

She took off up the track, a slow lope until he caught up with her and then she fell in behind him. They went higher; Joel was surefooted as he swapped from trail to trail. He knew these mountains so well. One day they would explore them with their kids. Wolf or bear, she got the feeling it wouldn’t matter.

As they cleared the tree line, she looked down at Bear Creek, her new home. Then turned and followed him, the sound of water spilling down the mountain reaching her ears. The place he took her to was beautiful. Sun sparkled on the tumbling falls, making rainbows dance across the surface.

With a huge bear grin on his face, he jumped off the side into the pool. Mia didn’t hesitate; she followed him, the cold water shocking to her wolf. Swimming with him was fun. They splashed in the shallows, shaking themselves so that water droplets flew off their coats before diving in again. The cold of the water penetrated her body. Waking her, making her feel alive.

At last, she was so cold she left the water and shook her coat until she had shaken most of the water off. When Joel emerged he did the same, and then they changed into their human form, Mia taking his hand and saying, “Come on, you big bear. I need some of your body heat to warm me up.”

“My pleasure, Mia.” Yet she knew by the look on her face, it would be her pleasure as he made love to her once more. The water fell down the mountain, the trees swayed overhead as he stripped her clothes from her body, while he worshiped her body with his.

“That moment we met. I hated you. Hated that you were a bear. But you know what, you’ve grown on me.” She kissed his neck, feeling him tremble at her touch.

“I should hope so, since we are going to spend the rest of our lives together.”

“I love you, old bear,” she said, putting her feelings into words for the first time.

“I know, my beautiful wolf.”

Whatever might come their way, they were strong together, bonded together, and nothing would change that.
