Freefalling (7 page)

He lifted his head, hair tousled and golden eyes gleaming, and then, in one easy movement, he stripped his shirt off and stepped on the bottom of his jeans to free his legs. ‘You are one demanding woman, you know.’ He thrust deep inside, one hard thrust that threatened to send her straight off the bed. Her stomach muscles tightened and she squealed, grabbing hold of him as she slid closer and closer to the edge with each thrust, and everything was constricting, clenching, tumbling and she was coming, hanging on, half suspended. ‘Don’t worry. I’ll never let you go.’

His voice was broken, fractured, and he was throbbing, pulsing inside her, and she let go completely, hitting the peak before spiralling slowly down like a feather floating on the breeze.

She was only dimly aware of him kissing the top of her head, pulling her close so he cradled her with his body. But she heard his words and echoed them with her own.

‘I love you.’

And she let her eyes close, knowing he was there right behind her. Wasn’t he always?
