Freya's Freedom (The Tower and the Eye Book 3) (13 page)

“I’ve never seen this before.”

“I have,” Lin gasped. “That’s the Seal Ring. Only the true heir to the throne can wear it.” She looked intently into Freya's face. “Put it on your left index finger.”

Freya looked at it.

“The band is too small.”

“It has a spell on it; it will resize itself,” Lin said. “Put it on.”

The girl shrugged and picked it up, sliding it onto her finger. There was a flash of light from within the stone that blinded Freya and Lin momentarily.

Freya blinked until she could see again and looked down at the ring.

“You were right, it fits perfectly.” Then she looked down at the stone again. “It’s flashing.”

“Pulsing,” Lin corrected her. “Only those with the full blood royal can wear it; for anyone else it is too small and stays a plain ruby. Take it off for the moment; we’ll use it to make your case when we reach Elyandor and your father.”

“What about my cousins?” Freya said, putting the seal back into the ring box, closing it and placing the ring box into the Graistun one. “Won’t they be able to wear it as well?”

“It depends on the strength of the blood royal in their veins.” Lin replied smiling.

She poured herself some wine, topping up Kraarz and Freya’s cups.

“I vow that I shall bring you to the throne of the Elysian Empire and that this Aracan Katuvana shall bother Quargard no longer.” She sipped and raised the cup.

Freya blinked away more tears, twisting the ring on her finger.

“In my brother’s name, I swear I shall use all the might of the Empire to bring down the Aracan Katuvana.” She sipped her wine and raised the cup, touching it to Lin's.

“I will fulfil my task and bend all my abilities to the removal of the Aracan Katuvana.” Kraarz sipped his wine and touched his cup to Lin and Freya’s.

“Oh so heroic,”
Vox said, floating in a circle around the three cups. It flared with white light.
“I imbue these cups with the force of Light. May those who drink from them never tire in their tasks.”
The light surrounded the cups and then faded out.

“To the downfall of the Aracan Katuvana,” they said together and drank deeply.

The Jar turned from the window to look at the Aracan Katuvana on his throne. The robed figure lay back against his high backed throne, snores flying out from under the hood.

“At last it begins,” the Jar said softly.

About the Author

Kira Morgana thought she was a teacher but life decided otherwise.

Living not far from a rift in time and space in a land that has a dragon on its flag, is it any wonder that Kira was inspired to write stories of myths and legend, creating her own worlds and her own legends?

Buoyed by the magic of three children and a loving partner she has created the five stories that make up The Tower And The Eye series of sword and sorcery adventures. Based on her own imagination and love of playing role play games, these stories are the everlasting dilemma of Good versus Evil. We all know which SHOULD win, but does it?
