“He finds me completely harmless,” Will said dismissively.

I frowned. He said it like my dad was some kind of idiot for thinking Will was harmless.

“Oh my god! You insist on coming over for dinner, and then you’re all charm with my dad and all moody jackass with me? I … told … you. If you’re worried that I have some schoolgirl crush on you, don’t. I’m a big girl.”

The look in Will’s eyes made me fumble nervously for the umpteenth time, and I looked down.

“You’re right,” he said softly. “I never should have come here.”

I looked up, suddenly furious.

“Then why did you?” I cried.

My breath caught in my throat as I glared at him. I was angry. And frustrated. With myself. Because I was falling in love with this jerk. I wilted at the thought. I didn’t want to be
in love
with Will Kincaid. But just like Sean had said—I wouldn’t be this upset if I didn’t care about him.

I blinked in surprise when, like magic, Will appeared in front of me. Before I could say or do anything, he reached out in a blindingly fast motion and pulled me toward him. As I stared up into the slate-gray of his eyes, he bent down, slowly this time, until his lips were a breath from mine.

All thought left me, and I gasped as his lips softly brushed mine. My eyes closed as an unfamiliar jolt of pleasure pierced me. When I whimpered, his lips began to move against mine, his hand slipping around the back of my neck to anchor me in place. My skin was burning where his fingers touched, and I vaguely registered a warning signal going off in the back of my mind telling me I was in real danger.

The problem was—I didn’t care what happened after this moment. Right now, all I wanted was Will.

When he pulled back slightly, I sighed, inhaling the perfect scent of his aftershave. Then his lips were suddenly on mine again, urging me to open to him. As his tongue brushed my upper lip, I felt another sharp wave of pleasure sweep through me.

His fingers slowly traced my jaw, down the side of my neck, his touch causing every cell in my body to tingle. When his lips dropped to my neck, I leaned into him, shivering. He pulled away, and slowly I opened my eyes, feeling like I was coming out of a trance. As I looked up, I saw that Will was visibly shaking.

Then I noticed the room was spinning around me. Before I could comprehend what was happening, Will grasped me around the waist and lowered me to the bed. I blinked up at him as I realized that his eyes were practically glowing blue. He was even more beautiful than before—but a look of pure terror was distorting his flawless features.

“I don’t want to hurt you,” he whispered.

I turned my head on my pillow and watched him walk away from me. Then the light turned off, and I heard the door quietly close. Dizzily, I reached up and touched my lips. They felt puffy, almost bruised, and my skin was buzzing with electricity.

My first kiss
, I thought as I drifted into the blackness of sleep.
