“Looks like everyone’s got a little one except you,” Anderson teased. “When can we expect a mini-Chance?”

“I’d prefer a mini-Emily,” Chance replied. “But let’s all let Emily get settled in to Frost Peak and her new business before we start bugging her for a kid.”

Emily felt her cheeks turning pink as all eyes on the room turned to look at her, and she shrugged sheepishly. The truth was that she would love to have a little newborn of her own, but Chance was right. They still had some settling in to do before thinking about kids. After a few more minutes of cooing over baby Bash, Chance and Emily left so that Lexi could rest. Sawyer and Amanda left, too, bidding Chance and Emily farewell at the hospital entrance. Emily smiled again as she thought about what a wonderful group of friends she had now.

As they walked back to Chance’s truck, he looked over at Emily and took her hand again. Then he stopped walking and pulled her into a hug. “How do you feel about kids?” he asked.

Emily smiled up at him. “I feel like I wouldn’t mind having a baby or two with you,” she said.

Chance smiled. “I was hoping you felt that way. I have something I want to ask you, by the way. I was going to wait and figure out a really romantic way to do this and have a beautiful ring ready and everything, but I can’t wait any longer. After all the warmth and happiness of family in that room, I just have to know that you want that for us, too. Em, will you marry me?”

Emily looked up at him in shock. “Yes, of course! Are you serious? You mean that? Nothing would make me happier than to be your wife.”

“I’m serious,” Chance said. “I know I’m supposed to have a big sparkly diamond and make some big speech, but I’ve never been good at that kind of thing. I’m not very romantic, but I love you. I just want to be with you, forever. I promise you, we’ll get you a pretty ring.”

Emily laughed and pulled Chance tightly into her arms. “I don’t need a big speech, or even a ring. I just need you. You’re my happily ever after. I love you.”

Chance kissed the top of Emily’s head and returned the hug. “I love you, too, Em. All this time, I thought I was coming home by coming back to Frost Peak, but the truth is that all I really need to be home is you. Your heart is my home.”

Emily chuckled. “You know,” she said, her voice muffled by his chest. “If you want to make a romantic speech, that was a pretty good start.”

Chance laughed. “I guess you’re right. I’m just telling you what’s on my heart. So that’s a yes? You’ll be my wife?”

“Yes, proudly,” Emily said. “Your heart is my home, too.”

Chance grinned, lifting Emily in his arms to carry her the rest of the way to his truck. Emily smiled as she looked up at the glittering stars and felt the strength of her Grizzly’s arms beneath her back.

There truly was no place like home.

About the Author

There are bears walking among us. Sloane Meyers is devoted to telling their stories.

Sloane thinks we could all use a little escape in our lives. And what better way to shake up the ordinary than to transport yourself to the mysterious world of those who have an animal within them, roaring to be let out. Sloane brings you hot shifter males, and spunky, spirited heroines—with NO cliffhangers! Each book can be read as a standalone.

When she’s not busy crafting bear tales, Sloane enjoys a good glass of wine, preferably shared with good friends. She loves reading (duh!) and spending time in the great outdoors.
