snap off his head when Pierre suddenly appeared behind him,
sword in hand. He swung, aiming for the beasts neck only to miss
and nearly behead Leviathan as James disappeared once again.
“Will you watch where the fuck you’re swinging that thing?!”
Leviathan growled as the angel landed gracefully beside him, his
eyes wide and alert as he searched for James. Leviathan clutched
at his wound, his body rigid from the pain and expectation of an
attack.
“You’re getting old demon.” Pierre said absentmindedly as he
twirled his recently found sword over his hand.
“And you’re forgetting just how easily I can snap you in half.”
“Children, must we bicker?” James asked as he appeared a few
feet away from them. It was almost as if he hadn’t been injured at
all.
“He’s healing himself.” Pierre frowned.
“But how?” Leviathan asked, straightening himself once the pain
began to recede. Pierre cast him a sideways glance.
“Apparently the same way you appear to be healing yourself.”
“I’m not. I only heal while I’m sleeping. You know that. I just
have an extremely high tolerance for pain.” Leviathan stood to
his full height and Pierre cocked an accusing brow.
“Whatever you say. Though, it’s obvious we won’t be able to
defeat him if he just keeps healing himself.”
“I wouldn’t be so sure. He’s just standing there patiently while
we chat. It’s almost as if he wants us to kill him.”
“Not necessarily. I have the rest of my life to rip you apart and
devour you both. It’s
you
who’s pressed for time there mate.”
The beast grinned and Leviathan felt his stomach tighten.
Kailani
. He was just a distraction, a detour to keep them from
their destination. But why? Was merging with Kai really that
important? Yes, Hellmouths were a rarity, but what would an
Archangel need with one? Or, had the Chaplain been correct in
his assumption that he’d want her to bare his children? There had
to be a million women in the world who were much better
candidates for mothering the offspring of an angel.
Unless…unless he were getting more out of this little deal than
they’d originally thought.
“No…She can’t be.” Leviathan felt his blood boil as a stunning
realization hit him. Everything suddenly clicked into place, all
the little things that hadn’t made sense in the beginning blazed to
life with stunning clarity.
“Ah. Figured it out have you?” James grinned and Pierre
frowned. He couldn’t say for sure that he understood what was
going on but there was no mistaking the pure loathing that flared
to life in Leviathan’s eyes. He took a step towards the hybrid and
Pierre held him back.
“He’ll only heal himself. It’s pointless to attack him alone.”
Leviathan ignored the angel as rage and raw, unfiltered power
filled him. This wasn’t just a fight anymore. No, he had to
destroy James in order to rescue Kailani from a fate worse than
death. He couldn’t believe he hadn’t seen noticed it from the
start. The fertility spell on the plane, the unexplainable feeling of
possessiveness he felt over her. It was so obvious, painfully so.
The realization had only renewed his conviction. He had to get to
Germany.
He had to save the mother of his unborn child.
