Guarding Kelsey ((Books We Love Romantic Suspense)) (19 page)

She nodded
her
head and arch
ed
her hips higher.

Encouraged by her response, he sucked on the pulsing nub.
Although he thought he might explode from his own desire, he couldn't stop now.
Her pleasure was his pleasure.
Her climax more important than his own.

"Please
.
." Her plea became lost in a sob.

Moisture poured from her, thick and hot.
She clenched reflexively around his probing finger.
More than ready, she was in a frenzy of passion
.
Her body shuddered as he entered her.
She closed around him, tangling him in a silky web of heat.
Her fingers dug into the flesh of his back.

She held him as if she were afraid he might try to leave.
Smiling, he touched his mouth to hers.
Silent tears spilled from her glazed eyes.
He licked them, savoring the salty taste of her release.
Only then, did he allow himself the pleasure of
the same, exhilarating climax.

For several breathless
moments they
laid side by side staring at the ceiling.
She couldn’t compose a coherent word, but her mind reeled with a hundred different thoughts. Wow!
She was exhausted in a very exciting way.
“So what’s the normal waiting period before we can do that again?

He turned towards
her and pulled her in his arms.
Flecks of gold danced in his sm
iling eyes.
"You need
some time to recuperate."

"What makes you think that?"

"It wasn't a complaint, just an observation. You seemed a little confused by what was happening to you."

Confused wasn’t the right word.
She was stunned, ex
hilarated and bursting with desire
all at the same moment. She had never fully understood all the hype about sex until now.
"I never felt anything like that before."

He let out a hardy laugh.
"What usually happened?"

"Nothing."

"Nothing at all?"

She used to believe that the only good thing about sex was that it ended quickly.
With Wolf, her only complaint was that
it
ended
too
quickly. “At leas
t not with a partner.
The self-
induced kind… well, you get the picture
.
.”
Heat infused her cheeks.
Had she
really said that out loud?
“Too much information
, I’ll bet.”

Wolf cradled her closer
.
“There’s never been anyone else after
.
.”

She shook her head sadly. "I didn't trust any man before I met you."

"And you trust me?"

"If you were going to hurt me, you would have done it when I laid you out on the kitchen floor."

He gently poked his finger in her side and she squirmed from the tickling.
"Thank you for bringing up that humiliating moment."

She grinned wickedly. "Humility is good for the soul."

"I'll stick with the seven deadly
sins.
I’ll take some more of that
torte in the kitchen?"

"
Will you guarantee that it will have the same effect on you as last time?"

"B
aby, that's an aphrodisiac
, not a dessert. I'd stake my life on it," he muttered.

"Well, hold that thought. I'll be right back with the whole da
m
n
ed
thing."
She grabbed his shirt
from the
floor and slipped in over her solders.

Whatever it took to keep him happy! While she had him all to herself, she planned to make the most of her time.
She knew he had conflicting emotions regarding her. How could she make him see that he wasn’t taking advantage of her fragile and confused emotions?
She had never been more sure about wanting anyone in her life.

She paused at the door. “Wolf?”

“Yeah?”

“Where are those hand-cuffs you mentioned?

He groaned.
She laughed.

The sun crept towards the horizon, the long night giving way to the morning.
Unable to sleep, Wolf had spent the past few hours staring into the darkness.
An L train rumbled in the distance.
Car horns blared as people rushed to get to work.
Inside the apartment, the troubles that lay ahead seemed a world away.
But they weren’t.

He gazed down at Kelsey and watched her sleep. Her naked body pressed against him, provided
silken
warmth.
The sweet scent of her wafted around him.
He could get used to this.
He was
losing his
heart.
If he
weren’t
careful, his head would follow.
And that could prove deadly for both of them.

When had he lost his objectivity?

The second she’d passed out in his arms
,
his conscience mocked him.

If he
were
smart, he’d make damn sure this didn’t happen again.
He swallowed a chuckle.
If he could get
his brain to function in Kelsey
’s presence, they wouldn’t be in bed together right now.

Kelsey's feet didn't seem to touch the ground as she danced down the lobby towards the elevator.
Her long ponytail swung across her back like a wiper blade keeping time to her own crazy beat.
There was no music, but that didn't bother her.
She snapped her fingers to an imaginary song and spun like a top until she collapsed against the elevator doors, dizzy and winded.
And looking exceptionally self-satisfied.

Wolf had a devil of a time keeping up with her.
Her energy was boundless, and he would know, since she had kept him up half the night.
After her crack about him being past his prime, he didn't have the nerve to plead exhaustion.

As he drew up in front of her, she tried to bury her roaming hands inside his leather jacket.
He locked his fingers through hers and brought her hands behind her back, pinning her to the wall.
"Behave yourself.
Try to remember that I'm supposed to be protecting you."

She pressed her body into his. "No."

He shook his head in surprise. "What?"

"I refuse to behave myself.
You're beginning to sound like my mother and uncle. Telling me how I should act."

"I thought we had an understanding."

"We do.
The minute I'm in my apartment this will be a professional relationship, Detective Krieger, Sir."
She clicked her heels. "The lobby is still neutral territory."

"And less safe than the apartment itself," he reminded her, pushing the button for the elevator. "Now, be a good little woman and keep those hands to yourself."

“Or you’ll break out the handcuffs again?”

“Kelsey Marie!”
He used her full name as a warning.

Although she rolled her eyes, she seemed to understand that when it came to her safety, enough was enough.
With a chaste little kiss to his cheek, she stepped into the elevator. She rode up with her hands demurely folded in front of her.

"Good girl."

“It’s more fun when I’m a bad girl,” she said as she marched into the hall.

He couldn’t argue with that one.
Kelsey had been determined to test her limits last night, only to discover that she had none.
She learned very quickly how to express herself without words, how to please him, how to let him please her.
Passionate, giving
.
. and still a protected witness.

Out of the corner of his eye, Wolf caught a movement.
Tension ripped through him like a bolt of
lightning
.

At the end of the corridor a young man hovered in the corner.
A baseball cap covered his shaggy blond hair and shaded his eyes from view.
His hands rested in the slash pockets of his faded denim jacket. Wolf caught Kelsey by the arm and pulled her behind him. She let out a gasp and grabbed hold of his sleeve.

The intruder stepped forward. "Are you Kelsey Winston?"

Kelsey nodded.
The young man began to remove something from his pocket at the same time Wolf drew his revolver.

"Don't shoot," the young man yelled.
As he threw his hands in the air the baseball cap flew off his head.
He was no more than a boy of fifteen or sixteen.
Still, looks could be deceiving and age had nothing to do with intent.

"Against the wall," Wolf ordered.

The boy stood rooted in place. Huge blue eyes stared at him in terror.
Wolf pushed the kid into the wall and ran one hand along his body to check for weapons.
He pulled an old newspaper photograph of Kelsey from the boy’s pocket.
Wolf slid his hand in another pocket and pulled out a circular object.
A closer inspection revealed the object was a harmless conch shell.

A shell? What the hell was going on? "Do you live in this building?"

"No, sir," his timid voice quavered.

"What are you doing here?"

"Visiting my sister."

He put his gun back in the holster, sensing that the boy was not a threat.
He was just some frightened youth.
From the look of his shabby clothing, he probably thought to panhandle for money from Kelsey.

Wolf’s nerves tightened.
He should have been more alert.
If a young ruffian could easily roam the halls, so could a killer.
"What's your name?"

"Michael.
Michael Parker."

Kelsey gasped. “Oh, my God.”
She took a step forward and peeked around Wolf to glance at the boy.
"He's my brother, Wolf."
