Gyaros Book One: The Mice Eat Iron (YA 17+ Sci Fi Adventure) (49 page)

“*beep*
. Freeze mother fucker! *beep*,” shouted Stiles and he aimed his gun at the spikey haired young man. But the suspect did not freeze, he bolted toward the open window that lead out onto the fire escape, tripping on the various items strewn about his messy apartment. He was wearing only a pair of white boxer shorts, displaying his many colourful tattoos, apparently he was sleeping before this intrusion.

“*beep*
. Take him down, FIRE! *beep*,” yelled Stiles and his partner shot an electrically charged round into the man’s back knocking him onto his stomach where he lay on his chequered kitchen floor, convulsing violently.

Stiles put his weapon away and approached the suspect. He placed his knee on the man’s back and sadistically leaned his weight into him
, the young man moaned in agony. Baker pulled the man’s hands behind his back and cuffed him securely. Stiles then turned him over roughly so that he was facing up and began to speak.

“*beep*
. Ryker Phelan, you are under arrest for the possession and distribution of illicit substances including dreamscape, hype and entheogen. Due to your past crimes and the fact that you were on a period of probation your days will be reduced to zero and you will be shipped to Gyaros within twelve hours. Do you have anything to say in your defence? *beep*.”

Ryker sighed.

“Fuck.”

Epilogue II

Somewhere in New Fortune a well-dres
sed and out of breath man burst into the office of his superior, who stood looking out at the city as the sun set on the horizon, his hands folded behind his back.

“Sir, her signal
just came back online.”

He turned
away from the window.

What! Where?”

“Just outside of New Fortune, she’s heading this way!”

He smiled.

Good. Operation Fatal Siren is back on track, send word down the line.”

“Yes sir
,” replied the well-dressed man bowing and then leaving the room, closing the large mahogany double doors behind him. The boss turned back to the window and surveyed the hazy New Fortune skyline as the city lights began to flicker on all across the city. He smiled and mumbled to himself under his breath, “It’s about time.”
