Chapter 11

Life fell into a pattern over the next
several weeks. Tresa explained Teriff finally reluctantly agreed to
send Terra to stay with Cosmos until the next mating ceremony which
was in a few months. Borj’s younger brother, Mak, escorted her and
was going to stay for a couple weeks until he was satisfied Terra
would be safe with Cosmos and on Earth. They left the day before
and Hannah missed the sweet girl already. Terra had spent a great
deal of time with her, Tink and Tilly teaching them the language so
they weren’t dependent on the translators. She reminded Hannah of a
female Cosmos in how smart she was and how she often got caught up
in what she was doing. Hannah felt confident Cosmos would do a good
job protecting the delicate young woman who was used to being
protected by her three older brothers and one younger one. Hannah
even met Derik who was allowed to accompany Mak but only for a few
days. He was still in training as a warrior and could not miss many
lessons. Mak promised to work with him while they were gone. Derik
was full of himself because he had already been to Earth and wanted
to introduce Mak to some of the sights; namely beer and babes.

During this time, Hannah even got over
feeling embarrassed about her parents making out in all the
hallways since Tink and J’kar were just as bad about doing it.
Hell, she even caught Tresa and Teriff a couple of times! Although,
she had to admit she could totally appreciate where they were
coming from now that she had a taste of the passion pie. It was
almost impossible for her to not touch Borj whenever they were near
each other. Near meaning if he was anywhere she could get her hands
on him. Hannah couldn’t believe how much she had changed over just
a few short weeks. She loved the sense of freedom and power she

didn’t come as often as she would like as Borj attended a number of
meetings during the day. During this time, Hannah took the
opportunity to explore the palace and outside gardens learning the
layout and photographing everything from the daily lives of the
people who lived and worked there to the different plants and
animals she saw. Her mom helped her set up a developing system in
one of the smaller rooms in her and Borj’s living quarters so she
could continue her work. Hannah gazed out the window knowing she
would need to talk to Borj soon about exploring further afield but
for now she could wait.

Things changed late last night when Borj came
in growling under his breath. It seemed members of the Eastern
Mountain Clan sent a group of representatives to meet with Teriff
and the council of Elders who ruled in regards to Tink. Borj
suggested Hannah might want to stay close to their living quarters
until the group left again. He explained they wanted to know if the
information they received from Bachman was correct.

Of course, once Tink and Tilly found out a
bunch of hot guys were sniffing around wanting to know more about
Tink they couldn’t resist sneaking out. So, the next morning after
the guys left Hannah, Tink, and Tilly snuck out to see what these
other warriors looked like. Borj didn’t say anything to Hannah
except to stay close to their living quarters. She considered since

the other hand, gave dire threats to Tink if he caught her out of
their living quarters. Tink crossed her fingers and promised she
would be good. Her look of innocence made J’kar frown all that much
more. Tink pointed out to Hannah she said she would be good. She
never said she would stay in their living quarters and never said
what she would be good at so according to her and their mom, she
was covered. Hannah had rolled her eyes at that logic and figured
since she was the only sane one of the three she better go to help
them when - not if - but when they got in trouble. She knew her
sister and mom to well to expect anything not to happen.

J’kar had been so determined to make sure
Tink didn’t sneak out he programmed the door to their living
quarters to be locked and only opened by him or the guard in case
of an emergency. What he didn’t plan on was Tilly, Tink, and RITA
working together. Tilly distracted the guard while Tink and RITA
hacked into the command sealing the door. Within minutes, Tink was
free and the guard was unknowingly guarding an empty room. Tilly
and Tink sought out Hannah and that was how the three of them ended
up hiding behind a couple of large planters in the Council
Chambers, having snuck in before everyone arrived.

Hannah looked through the plants curiously as
a large group of huge men wearing some type of leather pants, high
boots, and leather vests came into the room. They looked different
not only in the way they dressed but also in that their hair was
longer and braided in thin braids. Several had weapons and when the
guards approached them Hannah held her breath when it looked like a
Mexican standoff was about to happen. It was only a sharp order
from Teriff that caused all the men to back off with a just a
little more posturing.

Tilly rolled her eyes and mouthed ‘men’. Tink
and Hannah bit back a giggle at their mom. She was going to get
them all caught! Hannah turned her head to look back at what was
going on.

“
What is the purpose of this visit?”
Teriff said standing tall in front of the other men.

Hannah’s eyes darted to her mother who was
cupping herself and showing Teriff must have a huge set of steel
balls to stand up to the six huge men standing in front of him.
Hannah smothered her chuckle barely but Tink’s escaped with a tiny
squeak. One of the warriors in the back turned slightly and all
three women froze. Hannah saw him raise his nose and sniff the air.
She had seen similar behavior in the male lions and gorillas she
would photograph. Hannah barely let her hand move to show her mom
and Tink to hold still. If he continued, they might need to beat a
hasty retreat. It would be tricky but there was a side door about
six feet from them that led to another corridor according to RITA’s
schematic of the palace. RITA was going to monitor them in case
they needed help escaping. She would unlock and lock doors as
needed.

Hannah let out a sigh of relief when the
warrior turned back around when the man next to him said something.
Hannah leaned forward slightly so she could listen.

“
You have a female from a different
species that one of you has been able to bond with successfully.
You will share where her planet is with us.” The broadest warrior
said in a smooth voice.

Hannah shivered as his deep,

Tink knelt down when J’kar’s
eyes suddenly flashed to the planter where she was hiding with
Tilly. Hannah watched as his eyes narrowed dangerously.
Uh oh, Tink wasn’t as good at hiding her thoughts
as Hannah was.
Hannah bit back a grin as
she saw his face darken and his lips tighten. Hannah glanced at
Tink but she was just grinning dangerously.
Double uh oh.
Hannah’s eyes swung to
J’kar’s face just in time to see him flush a dark red and his eyes
glaze slightly. Whatever Tink was thinking it was definitely having
an effect on him. Hannah let her gaze wander over to Borj wondering
if she could do that to him as well. She let a picture of her

The man in the back looked at both Borj and
J’kar before turning to look over his shoulder again. Hannah made
sure she was hidden but got the weirdest feeling he knew she was
there as his eyes continued to stare at the planter she was hiding
behind.

Hannah realized she was missing a good
portion of the discussion and forced herself to behave. RITA was
going to have to fill in the missing parts. They were having her
record what was going on for them, as well.

Teriff looked at Merrick for a long moment
before replying. As leader of the Eastern Mountain Clan, Teriff
knew he needed to be careful with how he handled this situation.
Merrick could be one mean son-of-a-bitch when he was in a good
mood. The clan was small but powerful. Their skills in the
mountains and high trees were unprecedented. They were a valuable
allied.
