QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION
  1. At the beginning of the book, Marielle pulled off the road and out of traffic in order to answer her cell phone. Do you know anyone who has had an accident or a near-miss because of answering the phone while driving? What happened, why do you think it happened and what could have been done to prevent it?
  2. It was quite a shock for Marielle to have a person land on her car. It can be difficult to maintain a clear head and do what is best in that type of situation. If the same thing happened to you, what would you do? What would be your best advice to someone else in the same situation?
  3. Marielle worked hard to develop a relationship with the teens, and to some, her only ministry could be that she was a good example of a Christian. If someone was watching you, would you be a good example? What is it you do that could be a good example to someone else? If you were trying hard to be a good example, who would be watching?
  4. Who do you know that shines as a good example? What is it that they did that made them shine? How can you follow their example in your own life?
  5. Marielle helped with the preschool-level Sunday school. Have you ever participated in a group leading children? What was your biggest challenge?
  6. Russ's time to work at the youth center is limited. Have you ever been involved in a short-term project? How did you feel when your time was coming to an end?
  7. Jessie had broken into both Russ's and Marielle's homes. Have you ever been the victim of a home invasion? How did that make you feel? What did you do after the invasion? What did you do to make sure it wouldn't happen again? Or, if it does happen again, what would you have done to be prepared?
  8. Once Russ became aware of what Jessie was doing, he made a plan to catch her in the act of breaking in. Do you think he did the right thing? Why or why not?
  9. After Russ and Marielle discussed what Jessie was doing to Byron, Russ's client, they had different opinions of what to do, and when. What would you have done? What would you like others to do, if the same thing were happening to you?
  10. In the end, Russ potentially left his career hanging and flew back to Marielle in the middle of the night. How did you feel about his decision and the actions he took to be with her again?
